Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District

The good - the building is beautiful and clean, breakfast was tasty, and the staff was mostly very nice. It is in a great location but you will hear the ambulance sirens throughout the day and night as it's next to 2 hospitals. The bad - they don't give you the things you request the first time. You have to ask 4 and 5 times to get housekeeping or toiletries. They messed up my bill and wanted to charge me $1600 more. It took 6 people over 4 days to finally get it fixed.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to stay in the room I booked. When I got there to check in I was told my room was given away. I booked a room with a full kitchen a bed and a couch bed for my daughter. Instead I was given a standard hotel room. It did have two beds but only a fridge. I’d like to note they didn’t give my room away to accommodate a handicap person as the room I got was an accessible room everything was wheelchair accessible. They must have overbooked and I got the short end of the stick and got a different room. The front desk girl called the manager to deliver the news to me because she was afraid of getting yelled at. I was not rude and didn’t yell at anyone. We were tired after traveling all day from California and I accepted it but I wasn’t happy. After the manager left the girl thanked me for not getting mad she said they get yelled at all the time for that happening. Which means they do it all the time so that reflects poorly on the management and is unacceptable. Because of that I would not recommend this hotel nor will I stay there again. Additionally, we had to deal with the ppl next door having a party that kept us up until 1am one night until someone called security. I’m sure it would have gone on much later otherwise. The next night I heard them starting again around 9pm I let it go on until I needed to go to bed then I had to call security to have it shut down. It was pretty annoying and extremely rude.

It's safe and close to venues and subway systems for people who don't want to drive in Chicago.

Service was fast and complimentary breakfast was great and I like the fact that you have to use your key to get on the elevator makes it feel really safe.
