Louis Apostolata Island Resort

Booked a last minute 10 day R&R hol mid September as a first time Easy Jet package deal - we were extremely surprised with the ease and value of it all. Talking specifically about the hotel, it perfectly met our holiday needs - the hotel, not fully booked, suited us as grandparents (leaving the 'kids' behind) as other guests were like-minded, mainly English. All hotel staff had time for all their guests and we could not fault any of them with their attention to detail in a typical holiday environment - it's not a 300+ holiday hotel that sometimes lacks personal interaction - it's a smaller, very amiable place where guests and staff have time for each other. Of particular note - the Spa was lovely and Lena was superb very knowledgeable; Lenny (animation) was like a coiled spring always with a smile and ready to engage with everyone. The salt water pool was huge and sparkling clean; we had half board and the choice of food was more than enough (just had 2 evenings when the main choice was a bit boring) - we interchanged with lunch once so we could enjoy an evening at Skala (taxi 8 euros). Yes, it's on a hilly outcrop but we are early 70's and managed to get around with no problem - best advice is to be aware of personal limitations. Read other positive reviews and go with them, nothing is perfect in life but for us it absolutely worked - of course there were odd niggles but it is not a lottery-win hotel, just a hotel that is friendly offering everything to make guests as welcome as possible, Greek style.

We have just returned from a one week stay at this hotel. We had a wonderful time and would thoroughly endorse the comments of Margaret below. Would also add that golf buggies are available to take residents to the pool should the number of steps ( approx 70) give anyone a problem. Thoroughly recommend this hotel

We have just returned from this lovely hotel. We had a superior room with amazing views and each morning a beautiful sunrise. Our room was cleaned each day to a very high standard. Reception staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant is lovely, we really enjoyed our meal each night on the terrace overlooking the sea. We also enjoyed the pool bar and restaurant. We also booked a tour around the island with Kefalonia Tours, and we highly recommend this. We used the shuttle bus twice to Skala and Poros, both great places to visit. We loved our week at this fabulous hotel, we highly recommend!

We spent a pleasant 1-week vacation at the hotel at the beginning of September. Our room was tidy and clean during the week thanks to the cleaning staff. I would like to highlight the animation programs and the nice person Thomas, who introduced the super water gymnastics, and every morning we looked forward to participating in it. Lovely spa hotel for families with older kids or couples. Great location, peaceful and not overcrowded. Always room around the pool. Every member of staff from multi language front desk to housekeeping were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. Just ask for a car hire or boat trip and if was done, with lobby pickups. All inclusive was truly all inclusive. Endless food choice and full bar including pool bar. Sea view room has proper panoramic views. The rooms although not city centre swish , had everything we needed and were clean and well appointed with plenty of space with daily housekeeping. And the little rocky swimming platform at bottom of hill is great for swimming with the fish. One note , this resort is on a steep hill with lots of steps, so not great for dodgy knees. But overall, it was a lovely relaxing week for us.

Firstly this is not a 5 star hotel/resort definitely a 3 star at best. We stayed as a family of 4, two adults, 2 teenagers for 12 nights. Location - You will definitely need a car if you intend to leave the hotel as it is situated some distance from the town. We did have a car and went to some lovely beaches and the national park. Rooms - Lovely view from the balcony. Beds comfortable. We had a shower over the bath which was very difficult to step into due to the positioning of the toilet. If you were not mobile it probably would be impossible to get into. Food - we stayed as half board. 3 out of 4 of us were ill vomiting/diarrhoea, my husband being very unwell vomiting for over 12 hours. We think was probably down to the food being kept warm on hot plates which can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Also the food wasn’t great lots of variety but become very repetitive after the first week. After we became ill we decided to eat at the local tavernas, and not eat in the restaurant. Food at the tavernas was lovely. Staff - we found the staff (in the restaurant) to be very rude. And the service was poor. I asked for a pot of tea for 1, and was told pot is for 2 people, so could only have 1 small cup of tea a day. My husband went to the bar to order some drinks and bar staff thought this was hilarious and laughed at him. Indoor pool and gym - you can only use this ounce during your stay. You have to book. We did book 5:45 for 1 hour. When we arrived no one was the spa reception. We waited for about 10 minutes still on one. So I went to main reception only to be told I have to wait for the staff to finish there treatments before we could enter the pool. We did eventually get to use the indoor pool but only for about 20 minutes then the jets get turned off. Times up. Overall due to being so unwell and the staff being so rude and difficult I wouldn’t return to the Apostolata Resort.

Hotel is in a beautiful setting, close to Skala for its beaches, restaurants and shops and the staff at the hotel are lovely. Lovely large pool also and despite the lack of a 'beach' the area for accessing the sea was beautiful. With sunloungers on patio areas and steps into the sea. One serious word of warning though.... this hotel is on a serious hill so if you don't like steps or steep inclines to get anywhere eg: pool to restaurant... do not book the Apostolata! With regards the staff - special shout out to lady who ran the restaurant (who's name we never caught but she also worked at the ice cream shop in Skala), Panos at the pool bar and Lenny for the entertainment. BUT.. we won't be returning for various reasons. Hotel does need some updating and tlc. It's not 5* by any stretch of the imagination. The decking around the pool is warped, with trip hazards in many areas and at least two sets of steps out of the pool need refixing as they are precarious. The food in the buffet restaurant is passable at best - but did result in many guests including one of our party contracting food poisoning (expensive trip to doctor and antibiotics required). We ate out on many nights to avoid the situation recurring, which is not what you expect from an all inclusive resort and ended up making the holiday more expensive than expected. We saw many of the lunchtime dishes being reserved at dinner time.... not great in a hot climate! And with regards all-inclusive... it really isn't. If you want any 'normal' cocktails - eg: Pina Colada or Aperol Spritz which would usually be included, these were extra cost. If you want to eat lunch at the pool bar (rather than facing the steps up to the buffet restaurant), there was a very limited menu only available before 11.30 or after 2.30pm. A more extensive but chargeable menu was available, and to eat between 11.30 and 2.30 was also chargeable. The entertainment was pretty much Lenny and his sidekick. They were great fun and they did a good job, but we would have expected some 'bought in shows' not just karaoke, pick your own music night and music quiz. We were unlucky to be allocated room 511 which was directly underneath the bar and entertainment area. We could literally hear everything happening in the bar... and we were able to do the music quiz one night (when recovering from food poisoning) from our bed! The staff at the front desk were fantastic when we asked to move owing to the noise issues and promptly upgraded us to a jacuzzi suite which was hugely appreciated. No issues at all with customer service or the staff.. but I would suggest that the rooms under the bar area are used for staff rather than paying guests as there is no sound proofing whatsoever to avoid guest disatisfaction in the future. In general, it was an OK hotel, with lovely staff and great views. But we booked all inclusive assuming the costs of food and drinks were 'paid for' and ended up having to shell out for dinn

Very nice resort next to Skala! Personnel was very friendly and always happy to help. Nice spa facilities! Very good massage provided by Lena! High recommendation! The view from the room was amazing and hotel beach just fantastic next to the rocks with many fish and crystal clear water! Location was very good, 5 min to Skala and 10 to Poros. Hotel provides as well shuttle.
