George Hotel by Greene King Inns

Just back from a wonderful 2 night stay at The George with our two small dogs. The staff at The George are the friendliest and most helpful we have encountered at a Greene King Inn. Special mention to Leon and Adam who are a credit to Greene King - thank you for making our short stay so special. This historic building is lovely - especially the courtyard where you can really step back in time whilst enjoying a drink or nice meal. Our bedroom was clean, and yes, the floorboards creak but this just adds to the charm of this old building. The small town of Huntingdon was a pleasure to explore - a nice range of shops and a wonderful history - especially if you are interested in Oliver Cromwell! We hope to come back one day - Thank you all at The George

Had a great stay at the hotel. The room was very comfortable and had everything that I needed during my stay. I had breakfast and a evening meal and both were excellent could not fault them I would recommend the Chicken in a basket. All the staff that I meet were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.

Dropped in for a pint, or two (maybe three). Staff friendly, and made me feel welcome. Courtyard a little warm, due to reelected sunlight (not really something they could influence). Only negative was the Abbot Ale, or lack thereof. Sadly it was off (again)....

First I forgot to say when I booked that I am disabled, so we were up on the first floor, there was a chair lift but only to the floor we were on and a few more steps up and down to our room. The room was dated but clean the bed linen was spotless with lovely fluffy pillows. As we managed to get down to dinner the assistant manager ask if we would like a ground floor room she went above and beyond to accommodate us even as to carry our luggage etc, all the staff were the most friendly and accommodating that made our stay relaxing and pleasant, apart from needing an update and some paint we will go again. Breakfast was delicious so was our evening meal thank staff at the George Hotel Mr Mrs Clark.

A lovely historic feel to the hotel and overall a pleasant stay with friendly staff (mostly). The room was spacious and comfortable. The only issue was the shower control, we could have hot or cold or both intermittently. The big disappointment was the bar. Greene King made their name as a brewery so we were looking forward to a nice pint of Abbot Ale only to find they don't serve it because they don't sell enough to justify wasting half a barrel every few days. Why not have a smaller barrel? Then there was an issue with the IPA so that was off. Come on! For a brewery to not have any of its real ales available! The other main criticism was that there seemed to be a bit of confusion over our booking; whilst some staff knew we had booked dinner, bed and breakfast, others didn't seem to, resulting in (a) the one surly waitress we encountered informing us rather brusquely at 9.20 p.m., after taking ages to serve us, we were too late to order dessert thus requiring a complaint being raised and our paid-for desserts being served, and (b) we were going to be charged again for our food until we pointed out that we had paid as part of the booking. Don't get me wrong, I would stay here again because these problems were not earth shattering but you would expect an operation like Greene King to get the basics right and make your stay problem free.

I don't know where to start. Worn out, dirty and noisy. I tried to call for hours to advise I had been delayed due to trains (also sent email). No answer so no food. 3 people on reception when I arrived so why no answer? Oh I haven't looked at emails. Phone calls? blank looks. Couldn't go out as late and doors were being locked. Got to my room and it was awful. see photos. Next night I wanted to chill and watch tv. I could only get 2 channels. Reception response "oh bless". Dinner, mac and cheese was average at best. Later that night I had guys sword fencing under my window and then till around 11pm a whole lot of removal noise. No surprise I will not be back. Highly recommend you don't stay here either. One positive, although the sheets were ripped the bed was comfortable with good pillows. Not a pleasant experience.

This was probably a really nice hotel at one time. Unfortunately, that was in the 1600s. We were assigned Room 9. It was difficult to reach as are all the rooms. The bed was comfortable, but that was the only redeeming feature of the room. Our room looked nothing like the pictures they have posted of their room, but we booked through *******, so I have no doubt we were assigned the worst room they have. It was clean, but threadbare. Everything screams of having seen better days. No fridge. No microwave. No ice machine. The entire staff are friendly! The location is amazing if you plan to walk around in Huntingdon. To sum it up...paid for 15 days. Stayed for 2. We were told no refund could be issued. It was worth losing 13 days worth of money to get to better quarters.

I have been coming to this hotel for years both with my late husband and Mum. I have been lucky enough to stay in a suite, a double ,twin and single rooms. The rooms right at the top are quirky with uneven floors but there are alot of stairs. They are all great and spotless. The rooms do need money spent on them as does the hotel. The staff are fantastic and really helpful and while.my family are in the area I will always come and stay here.
