This is a long review, but deservedly so because Compass Rose is, at least in our immediate knowledge prior to our trip and stay, a hidden gem. My family and I literally stumbled across Compass Rose via Google Maps, just minutes before our serendipitous stay. We were pulling an Airstream for a week, having just traveled from Zion and Bryce Canyon. When we arrived in Huntsville, our original reserved camping spot unfortunately didn’t meet our advertised expectations. From that point on, we were scrambling to find a new stay within a reasonable distance from the wedding rehearsal site that we needed to get to within the next hour. When all was said and done, we had 30 minutes remaining to get ready for said rehearsal. In that short amount of time, my husband popped into Compass Rose and asked the owner, Jeff, if there was anywhere we could park our trailer nearby and stay in the hotel for two nights. Jeff graciously and unexpectedly allowed us to park in front of the beautiful hotel entrance, next to the tipis. He stepped outside to help direct my husband as he backed into the designated parking spot, he and Dakota held some of our luggage in the lobby while our room was being prepped, and we were even offered coffee and beverages for the kids. Jeff warmly joked right before we settled in, “You have the room that looks right down on your Airstream so that you can keep an eye on it!” If that isn’t enough to illustrate the warmth and hospitality of Compass Rose, it’s also just as equally important to note how gorgeous, quaint, and uniquely staged that this hotel is. Anyone with or without an eye for interior design and architecture can immediately see how Jeff and his family have curated such an aesthetically thoughtful and welcoming setting. On that note, I commented to my husband as we were relaxing in our room that it didn’t feel like a hotel room, but rather a cozy and elegant guest suite of a home. Without seeing the other rooms, one gets the impression that each room of the hotel has its own touches and that all furniture is hand selected, rather than stock. That is truly an aesthetic vibe that is unique to Compass Rose. The artwork, decorative objects, observatory, and many details right down to pretty hallway benches and complimentary breakfast sandwiches are what make Compass Rose an unparalleled stay. It’s also pretty luxurious to experience their soft water and really nice choices of shampoos and body washes after a trailer trip! You know that you’re at a great place when you observe others thoroughly enjoying their respite, from reading a book in the lobby to enjoying coffee by the outdoor firepit. Compass Rose is truly a place of peace and beauty. Landing at Compass Rose, and having the good fortune of being able to stay there, was one of the happiest turns of events of our trip across the Southwest. My husband and I know that it was even a formative memory for our elementary-aged children and they, too, vocalized how much they loved
