This really is a 10/10 place. My husband and my favourite place weโve stayed, this trip to Thailand. Weโve already decided we want to come back, with friends, next time.
We wanted a place to cut our drive to Bangkok and had no idea Sarat Thani and the surrounding area had so much to offer.
Mr. Pongsak, the owner, could not be more lovely. He is so thoughtful and invested in making sure everyone who stays has the best experience and shares his knowledge of the area and all the things there are to do and see.
We drove a rented car, and found it sooooo peaceful and relaxing to be there. And so close to get to town, markets and lots of yummy foods.
We cannot wait to share this gem with friends and try the other cabins. The pond with all its fish is a gorgeous water feature too.
They opened in 2025 and are building a third cabin. They are modern and still so charming and relaxing.
Cannot wait til we can return on our next trip.
My only concern is that it is such a great spot and is going to be so popular, we will need to book well in advance next time!
Thank you for everything. See you next time, Mr. Pongsak and family.

It's in a pretty location, with 7/11 and C Plus around 100 meters away. There's a rooftop bar and restaurant not more than 50 meters away.
The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the night markets, which I highly recommend.
There are two issues however; There's entrance to the shower is very narrow, a towel rail in a dangerous location.
The beds have very sharp corners that jut out from the mattresses. I manged to injure myself. The staff put rubber tape on the corners after my injury.
Overall, a good place to stay

The hotel is comfortable, close to Central Surat Thani, and traffic is light. The rooms are relatively new and clean, and the staff provides good service.

very good premises, clean and spacious. Wonderful staff. A few spoke English and they were sharp. The shower water temperature could be warmer. Good AC. Good/fair wifi/internet. Gym is spacious, has AC, good lighting, 7am to 9 pm everyday. Has a rack of dumbells max is 12 km. Only one weight machine that needs to be repaired. Two treadmills in good condition, 1 out of order. 2 or 3 stationary bikes. Restaurant serve only buffet breakfast. No lunch or dinner. Room service only from 7am to 2 pm. Small refrigerator. No microwave Owen. No coffee supplied. Highest floor is 4th recommended, quieter, no children running amok above you. No laundry currently available but there is a good automatic laundromat 24/7 available 100 meters from the hotel that makes change and has table to fold dry clothes. All in all a good experience.

This one is super close to the Night Market, a super authentic local night market with local Thai prices. The building itself and walls have already aged and it is not a modern hotel anymore, although the reception area is well maintained. AC and TV worked well in the room (however no SmartTV). Mattress was good, rather a hard one, which is common in Thailand and which I do prefer. Staff was professional and spoke very good English.
The shower and bathroom is as on the pictures, clean and comfortable - actually the strongest point of the rooms, together with the fridge and selection of fairly priced minibar items. Cleanliness could be a bit better, e.g. apparently nobody is cleaning under the bed (found some clothing items of previous guests). The LED installation behind the bed is also quite dusty, which is a design mistake and obviously hard to keep clean - this could be designed differently after a renovation.
Remark to hotel staff: in order to keep rooms cool, which are exposed to sun, it would make sense to close the curtains before a new guest arrives. This would also save you AC cost and make the arrival even more comfortable.
Future guests: take note of a 300 THB deposit in cash, which is mainly for the minibar I believe. The hotel informs about the deposit in the terms of Service on Trip.com, which is good. I got the deposit back after staying one night and after deduction of consumed items.
All in all, considering the price and location, I would come and book again, especially if you are staying just 1-2 nights in transit. The hotel is also walking distance to Phantip and Phangan Tour 2000 bus offices, which provide transfers to e.g. Koh Samui or Phuket Town.

BrugginkCommunication was a bit challenging. I'd messaged them via the travel site and emailed the correct address, but it seems calling is the most reliable way to reach them. I wanted to arrange a pickup, as Bolt/Grab services in Surat Thani don't accommodate 5 people; they only cater for 4, and we also had quite a bit of luggage.
The van was supposed to meet us at Surat Thani station, but our bus dropped us off in the city center instead. This led to a dramatic 45-minute wait, during which we made several calls and sent emails. It was incredibly frustrating because our emails weren't getting through, and the staff member's English wasn't good enough to fully understand my concerns. Eventually, we were picked up, but by then, after a 6-hour journey, we were completely worn out.
Upon arrival, check-in was quick. Unfortunately, the rooms don't have balconies, but they are clean. The bed was too soft; if one person turned over, the other could feel it. However, there was a TV, so we could connect our Chromecast to watch Netflix. The pool was beautiful, and there was a designated smoking area outside. Two pillows are provided per bed, so there's no need to ask for extras. The only downside is that pool towels aren't provided, so you have to use your bath towel for the pool and then dry yourself with it again after showering. I find this unhygienic; I asked for a second set of towels, but I think this should be a standard offering. They diligently refill water bottles daily, and housekeeping is excellent โ you don't even need to ask, they simply do a great job.
The hotel has a fridge stocked with drinks and beer for purchase, which allowed us to comfortably sit outside. Someone is always at the reception until late, which is reassuring.
It was very quiet, so we had the pool all to ourselves the next day too. We found the mall, and the receptionist kindly helped us locate a supermarket less than a 5-minute walk away. She also arranged a taxi for us to the pier for the following day. For our two-night stay, it was perfect.
We only had breakfast one morning, and it was less than we expected and not really worth the price.
All in all, this was an excellent hotel for us to unwind before catching our boat. The staff truly goes out of their way to help you wherever they can.

I spent my last 8 nights in Thailand in the Regent Hotel as I just wanted to chillax after 2 months travelling! I loved my time there. The staff are extremely helpful and Google translate is great for communication. My room was HUGE! The Air Con was excellent (Rm304)! The bathroom had a wall separating the toilet from the shower and that was great! The electric shower was perfect. The cleaning staff work hard. The gardener is constantly on the go and keeps the outside area spotlessly clean. Well done to him. The wardrobe space was super and storeage was great also. My only complaint (and thatโs for every hotel room in Thailand) is the lack of double glazing to keep out the noise from the main rosd traffic. Otherwise everything was great in the hotel Thank you.

For the money we paid we got what we got. It is an old hotel, but it was clean. Unfortunately they only provide a small soap, toilet paper and towels, no shampoo, conditioner or shower gel. The bad was that the fan room had no hot water which was surprising for us, and on top of this we got no proper blanket to cover ourselves but a towel which wasn't that big so we were struggling with the cold during the night. Also, you can hear everything around as the room had a big opening to the main hall covered with something like a fence so you can see throw and obviously hear anyone passing by. The toilet had the same issue, the walls aren't built up to the ceiling so you can hear everything happening there in the room...

Guest UserBear and Bird Hotel: A Budget-Friendly Stay with Room for Improvement
The Bear and Bird Hotel in Surat Thani offers good value for money in a central yet quiet location. Many guests appreciate the spacious, clean rooms (especially the Japanese-style ones) and the nice pool. The staff are generally friendly and helpful, and free parking is a plus.
However, as a newly opened establishment, the hotel is still a work in progress. Some guests have noted musty smells in standard rooms and dated or problematic bathrooms. Despite these quirks, if you're looking for an affordable base in Surat Thani and can overlook some minor imperfections, the Bear and Bird Hotel could be a suitable choice.

A Fading Gem with a Fantastic Breakfast
The Wang Tai Hotel feels like a grand dame from a bygone era. Walking into the lobby, you can see it was once a truly luxurious place, and that sense of scale and history is still there. However, it's clear the hotel is in need of a bit of a makeover. While everything is clean, the decor and some furnishings feel a little tired and dated.
That minor point aside, our stay was very pleasant. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, always going out of their way to assist us.
The breakfast, however, was a wonderful and unexpected highlight! Instead of a standard buffet, it's ordered a la carte from a menu. Don't let that worry you the range is huge, covering both Thai and Western options. Everything we ordered was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. It felt more like a restaurant experience than a hotel breakfast.
The large swimming pool is a major plus โ perfect for a refreshing dip and lounging in the sun. The location is also very good, making it a convenient base for exploring Surat Thani.
In summary, if you can look past the slightly worn edges, The Wang Tai Hotel offers incredible value, spearheaded by a stellar breakfast, great pool, and excellent service. A little refurbishment would easily make this a 5-star experience again.
