The rooms are dated, but very clean and the bed was comfortable. They are serviced villas, which was a pleasant surprise! The milk and bathroom amenities were topped up without asking. The staff were friendly and my 2 & 3 year olds adored the “pony” rides. Note for future guests, they are horses not small ponies haha. Great experience none the less and it was just overall fabulous there!

Honestly the most incredible hotel experience in Tasmania. I would never dream of staying anywhere else. The luxury and the quality of the room and amenities are second to none. The most accomplished and welcoming hotel staff I’ve come across in Tasmania - thank you for making me feel special. My mother and I felt so welcome and honestly we wanted to extend our day. I loved where it was situated. A short 15min stroll to the town centre but quiet enough to enjoy the tranquility of Tasmania. The beautiful park areas and river views made it feel very intimate and more remote which is ideally what we wanted. Highly recommended. Honestly! Best Tasmanian hotel!!!

Best Western Launceston is a basic, but clean, safe, comfortable well-priced hotel in the centre of Launceston. It's well positioned for the Botanic Gardens and monkey enclosure, right in the centre of the city, and not too far from the river. The room had everything you'd need, or expect, for this price. But what raised the place for me was the service. On a badly delayed flight I didn't arrive until after midnight, but the night manger appeared swiftly, helped me check in, and never once complained about being dragged to the front desk in the middle of the night.

I would like to give the reception staff Lisa and Karen 10 out of 10 for wonderful service. I was trying to get a bed for one night and rang the hotel as I'd booked on what I thought was their website - I'd booked the wrong night and couldn't change it. Lisa was the lady I spoke to and she very kindly sorted it for me in such a lovely manner. Then when I arrived Karen was on reception and the welcome was warm and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Personality plus, what an asset! The room was on the small side but comfortable, spotless and had a fabulous view of the city. It is also within walking distance of two theatres, bars and restaurants. A genuine pleasure to stay here, thank you ladies.

A shop that the husband and wife jointly run is difficult to find at the beginning of the road. It is actually on the side of the road. Because the hotel on the other side is a bed and breakfast, but the experience inside is very good. The landlord’s own breakfast can go out and see if it will go out. Great choice

Whilst the accommodation situated behind the pub looks fairly ordinary and potentially run down, we were very pleasantly surprised to find that our family studio for 2 adults and 2 kids, was completely renovated inside, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The separate bedroom with two singles, made if feel very spacious and having a kitchenette with microwave was very handy. Dinner is available onsite at the Riverside Hotel, however we found the food to be fairly ordinary and elected to eat elsewhere on our second night. Being a motel type establishment, it was a little noisy in the mornings but nothing too loud. I think being on the second floor helped this. In terms of accommodation, this is definitely a great value for money option minutes drive from central Launceston.

We stayed here as a family of five in a Family Room with private ensuite. We checked in 15 minutes early but the lady was happy to give us the keys to the room. The accommodation is upstairs on top of a pub/pokies. There is no lift so you have to walk up two flights of stairs and carry your luggage. Our room was very spacious with two single beds, and a sofa bed in the main living area. There was a private ensuite separating the queen bed room which was perfect for my parents. The room had basic furniture, a TV, fridge and coffee/tea making facilities. My son loved having a bubble bath as we only have a shower at home. The room was clean and the wide windows around the room made a good view of the outside which my son could look out of. Our room was situated next door to the communal kitchen and opposite to the shared bathroom which was very convenient. The hotel is within walking distance to a shopping plaza, restaurants, a KFC, Hungry Jacks, Coles and Woolworths. The only negative was that our room was situated along a busy main road and at night you could hear all the traffic passing by so we didn’t get a good night’s sleep. Also our booking via booking.com said we would get two free welcome drinks for two guests upon arrival but we didn’t get that. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay at Mowbray Hotel and would consider staying here again.

GGuest UserOur group stayed one night en route to Derby. We were all very happy with our rooms and had a comfortable night. The staff went out of their way to store the bike boxes for us to .pick up a week later when we left Launceston. We had the downstairs twin room which had a king and a single bed and was larger than the queen rooms. All rooms had views of the city, and refurbished bathrooms. Thanks to the staff at Areca for our enjoyable stay.
EEzuyVery good hotel, health is a bit biased, if the room has a kitchen will be better, in general I am very satisfied with the hotel, breakfast is delicious, the room is also very good, it is recommended, look at the picture will know...
GGuest UserWow! We stayed in apartment 10 which was the 3 bedroom accommodation. It was huge and more than enough for a family of 4. Nice lounge and dining area and modern kitchen with all the appliances you would need. We came late and had to check in after hours which the staff organised for us without issues. Free car park in the front. A bit of a workout walking up the hill but a good morning exercise ;) Location directly opposite the City Park and only minutes walk from the main mall. A quick walk to cafes for breakfast. The only negative was the wifi didn’t work, but not really an issue. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.
GGuest UserWe stayed here in September 2022 and just loved our visit. The hotel was exceptionally vibrant, clean, modern, well located and had brilliant service. The rooms are very comfortable with big areas around beds with room to move and put belongings and the bathrooms were very clean and modern. The staff were always helpful and friendly and the hotel was very well located within easy walking distance of downtown areas. We especially loved the beautiful foyer area and accessible bar and restaurant areas. Would definitely recommend.
A reasonably priced place for what you get. We stayed in a spa villa for two nights travelling with family (2 adults 1 child). The good? Located only a short drive from Launceston, relatively quiet and clean. Nice and warm with the gas heater in main area. Basic facilities all met with TV, dining table and kitchen with stovetop/oven, toaster, kettle, microwave and fridge/freezer. Two small bedrooms with built in wardrobe space and electric blankets and extra bedding. Basic kitchenware. The not so good/need improving? More cutlery would be great. The water taps in the shower were very hard to get just right and kept vibrating when trying to hit the right spot. A wall panel heater in the bedroom would also be great. The games room was very tired and neglected. However, overall this met our needs. And as an added bonus, an IGA X-Press with hot food and good coffee, newsagent and bottle shop were directly next door (walking distance) and a great park located over the road with a little skate ramp track and playground. Would we stay here again? Yes, we would! Next time we'll need to ask what the big inflatable bear head was about as well.
PPINGVery ordinary hotel, similar to a motel, no service, no elevator, climbing a large suitcase to the third floor, exhausted, Launceston is very small, very quiet,
Very minimal, shabby rooms of doubtful cleanliness, at maximal expense. Explicitly states that no service is offered, so to that extent at least the management is honest! But if you are staying two nights or more, you only get one night's worth of tea/coffee/milk/towels etc, even though you are paying for these items in the room charge. We had booked and paid for two rooms, but when I arrived the receptionist rudely said I could not check in 'because I did not have the same name as the person who booked', and I would jolly well have to wait until the person who booked arrived. (Actually, the person who booked was my daughter-in-law.) This is an extremely rude, discriminatory, and just plain stupid thing to say. For example, a husband and wife could have different names, and arrive separately. Also, I arrived at 3 pm, but what if my daughter-in-law arrived at 10 pm? The polite thing to do would be for the receptionist simply to ask if she could have a word with my daughter-in-law on the phone, or see a text message. Another point: the rudest, most aggressive utterance in the 'hospitality' industry is 'Can I help you?' spoken loudly through gritted teeth and rictus smile. The receptionist really ought to book a course at charm school. If - despite all - you are thinking of staying here, keep in mind that it is a very steep, long walk down to the city centre - and back up. The Coach House is not suitable for children, as the upper storey concrete walkways and steps are extremely dangerous for toddlers.
BBarrAs a solo traveller just spending one night in Launceston, The Star Hotel was the ideal choice. It is centrally located and street parking was easy to find and free between 17.30 and 09.00 next day. The room itself was compact but comfortable with an ensuite. The friendly, efficient female staff member was able to help with local advice and when I decided to have dinner later, the food and service were exceptional. Three see a couple of stair cases to negotiate but really no trouble. This place was a highlight of my travel in Tasmania.
GGuest UserIt’s is a beautiful hotel! It’s clean and has a lot of comfort items to make you feel at home. Great location, easy to get in and out of the city. Environment was pleasant and welcoming. The staff was the nicest staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. They were always friendly and asked how our stay was going every time walked in the door.
GGuest UserDISGUSTING! We entered the vuilding and immediately a disgusting smell of dirty feed crashed into our noses! We honestly wanted to throw up and at 7pm when we arrived there was already nobody in the reception to talk to or to complain to. My bunkbed had a chewing gum sticked on it (photo attached). At night people were loud till 1am and in the morning at 5am they were back on, behaving as if it was noon time. We complained the morning after to the hostal that did not assume any responsability, saying nobody ever complained. No compensation whatsoever, but how could we prove the disgusting smell of the building?! NEVER AGAIN. ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
