Booked in by my company on a layover in Maputo. When we checked in we were told the elevator was broken and our rooms were on the 11th floor !! Room was was very shabby. Broken window, mould in the bathroom, broken wall sockets NO toilet paper. Not worth the $83 charged for the over night stay and in fact would never stay here again. WiFi was terrible and hardly able to connect. Would not recommend this place, nothing in this place relates to VIP !!! Avoid it.
Southern Sun Maputo

My wife and I just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. Also, my wife turned 50 years old! We live in Maputo, and we chose the Southern Sun Hotel to celebrate. It was indeed our best choice. We had a great stay and time over the weekend 11/12 May. The Reception staff were just amazing (they kindly allowed us to delay our check out by one hour). The room service was superb (a delicious cake and sparkling wine awaited us in our room). We had a great buffet breakfast in the Restaurant. Even though the Restaurant was packed (on Sunday morning), the staff were very professional and very much helpful - with smiles all over! I highly recommend the Southern Hotel in Maputo for a great stay! Many thanks to the General Manager Mark Loxley and the whole Team!!! MUITO OBRIGADO!!!

The hotel was tidy, and I like the location and view. The cathedral next to it is very beautiful. And the location is not too far from the airport, so it is suitable.
The Quiet Corner Guest House

This homestay is hidden in the alleys in the city of Maputo, the sign is very small, if you don't pay attention, you will miss it. Fortunately, the homestay has a paid pick-up service, so you can arrive smoothly from the plane. The room was not spacious, but it was very clean and quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. Open the window and see the beautiful courtyard. The bathroom is large, but the bath water temperature is difficult to control, sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold, I hope the boss can improve this problem. Breakfast is buffet style, go to the kitchen to prepare sandwiches, boil hot water for coffee or tea, or open the refrigerator to get milk or juice. The service staff are very kind and polite and provide information about nearby travel. The Portuguese boss also appears at the homestay and cares about the feeling of accommodation. The price is very good and good value for money. It is recommended that this homestay give to travelers with a low budget.
Onomo Hotel Maputo

Stayed two nights. Centrally located with good soundproofing. The surrounding area is not the best - wouldn't walk around after dark. The hotel looked nearly empty. The room was small but functional. Air conditioning worked well. Amenities included laptop- size safe and electric kettle, although no coffee or tea provided. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Well lit desk area with power outlets . Mismatched chair barely fitting under the desk without enough space for one's legs. Bathroom with separate cabins for shower and toilet. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. No hair dryer. Average wifi, but the password provided is valid for one device only. I asked for a second one and the man at the front desk told me that ”it would take some time” and he would call me. He never did, so I ended up tethering my laptop to my phone for two days. Breakfast buffet with good selection. Friendly staff with varying levels of helpfulness: a woman arranged for my early morning taxi and breakfast box, while a man, when asked where I could find some shops, told me to check Google Maps. Overall good for a short stay.

We had booked this before colleagues of mine in Maputo recommended other hotels. The hotel is clean, secure, and quiet, and the front desk staff were great. Location is reasonably close to the business districts and there is a grocery store next door. The rooftop bar is OK, though in a city with a lot of great views, it is nothing special. The breakfast was pretty dismal, and given how difficult transportation can be in Maputo if you don't have a driver, the staff could have been more helpful in that regard: they called a driver to take us to dinner but then left us to negotiate the price. In Portuguese. If your transportation is covered and this place is cheap, go ahead, but otherwise there are better places in town.
