The Drifter

Right off Tulane in Mid-City, this motel is a hidden gem. When you first come in, you are greeted with a coffee bar/room check in station. Retro vibes refreshed is the best description of the space. Toward the back overlooking the pool, is the BAR BAR 😋 • We came for the Daydream event which was a blast! Poolside music, cocktail stands situated around the pool, event space behind the large fence for music and live entertainment. Next trip, I will be booking a room and hanging out all day and night!

Others have said it. This was an awful place to stay. I agree with there is black mold. No one could be found except during check in. I really want a credit but they didn’t respond to my complaint via email about black mold in my room. Just take my advice and stay away.

The check in consists of a key in a lock box hanging on the room door. There is no reception after 6pm. When you walk in you are overwhelmed by the smell of mildew. The have a dehumidifier running along with the a/c which should tell you everything. Every wall and ceiling is covered in dark colored mold. The bathroom counter had dirt and bug poop on it. It was dark and some of lights didn’t work. The only way to contact anyone is by email, which if they know you’re unhappy, the won’t respond. Also, it’s in the middle of nowhere in a really bad neighborhood. We did a 180 and moved to the Mercantile Hotel which was cheaper and way nicer. We didn’t even spend the night. They still have not responded to me. Fortunately I paid with AMEX and they are reversing the charges.

Disaster for me! They canceled my reservation day of as I was in route from the airport. I was told a pipe burst, which happens, but there was no empathy, concern, or help offered to me. I sat in the lobby for an hour desperately looking for an alternative place to stay while other guests checked in and were given free drink coupons. No one apologized to me in the lobby or offered me even a glass of water. Again just no class or decency. I had to pay over $200 more because it was day of on a Saturday night with a medical convention in town. I emailed them later asking if there was anything they could do to help cover the cost and got no response.

If I could give this place an 11/10 I would. Genuinely such a wonderful stay with super accommodating staff that made the stay even more enjoyable. This was an unforgettable ambiance and truly spectacular in all ways possible. If you’re looking for a fun stay with friends this is the place to be.
