Staying here was like stepping back in time. We stayed for 2 nights on our trip to Ooty. The hotel is from a bygone era , you really get an insight of this with all the photographs of the Royal Family when they stayed here back in the day. The property has got all its original features but is desperately in need of some love and attention to preserve it. We had no complaints about our room - large and airy , with a little sitting area and big bathroom. All the furniture was in keeping with period of the property. We found it to be very clean but because there is some dampness in the bathroom there are some marks on the ceiling. The food was very good , we had dinner one night and just a simple breakfast is as our choice, but there seemed to be a good choice for others. The few staff were very friendly and helpful. They were trying so hard to give good service but we could tell they were under a little pressure from other not so satisfied and demanding guests. I actually felt quite sorry for them. If you decide to stay here do not expect modern luxury of chain hotels and try to keep an open mind. We think you will probably forget some of the modern hotels you will stay in , but like us you will never forget your stay here ! I would say to the owners of this hotel you have great staff but you need to make some investment in your property before it’s too late. It could be an absolute gem and the star of Ooty.

We booked 2 nights in a Premium garden view room. We travel a lot preferably in unique and high standards property . Check in was outside next to the courtyard despite the rain which was not really nice conditions because weather was terrible when we arrived and cold ! We would have appreciated a check in inside. Our room was nice but 14c inside ! We asked the staff to add an extra electric radiator and get the wood fire place on. The room has floor heating but it took a few hours to reach 18c. Anyway it would be appreciated to warm up the room a bit before guests arrival in order to make a more cozy atmosphere. Bathroom has a bathtub and shower with very hot water and good pressure. We had to ask for more toilet paper (half a roll for 2 nights at disposal), which is not appropriate in a hotel of this standing. WiFi in the room super fast. We had our breakfasts and diners at the hotel. The bar area is nice with a good selection and service is efficient . Prices are on the high side especially with alcohol drinks as entitled to a dedicated alcohol tax. Food is correct for the price and big portions. The dining area could be more inviting if lighting was not so bright and tables set up in a more harmonious way. As well the pianist selection on our first evening was terrible and we requested to change table. We didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the garden as it continuously rained and it was very windy as well (bring a warm sweater and winter jacket if coming around at this season), also the premises are kept in good condition and clean. Overall we appreciated our stay , the staff is kind and professional, the property is unique but prices too high even to European standards considering it is monsoon season.
