Westmorland Hotel Tebay

Love the location, the views from the hotel & dining room. The restaurant was good, young inexperienced staff that very very nice but a little clumsy. Checkin receptionist was very curt, but check out person the following day was lovely. All in all, loved staying here again. Beautifully peaceful
Patterdale Hotel

Firstly the staff were friendly and efficient, secondly the hotel allowed us to have dinner as a non resident, that’s where the positives ended I’m afraid. We had to pay in advance for the meal and as we went along for drinks, very unusual. Where our true disappointment came was from the quality of the food. Our starter of garlic mushrooms on garlic bread was returned as it was too over powering with garlic. The salmon roulade was adequate. The roast beef was well cooked and quite tender, the vegetables and potatoes had been around too long and lacked flavour and freshness. The stir fry chicken was a poor imitation of the real thing, while it was edible, it was quite bland. Further disappointment came with the deserts, very poor cheesecake, soggy base and rubbery filling. Even the chocolate ice cream had no flavour, just coloured frozen water. It felt like the food was aimed at guests (tourists) who didn’t have a choice and would never be returning anyway. Would recommend the White Lion pub as an alternative in Patterdale.
The Brantwood Hotel

We recently stayed for 4 nights in room 2. We decided to eat in the restaurant on the first evening as we had driven a long way that day, but had tables booked at other pubs for the remaining 3 nights. After experiencing the first night with tablecloths on the table, water provided, the most wonderful food, and extremely attentive staff we decided to cancel the other pubs and ate in the restaurant every night. We were not disappointed. The room was comfortable with a large bathroom and shower. The breakfast was also good, and the prices in the restaurant were very reasonable. The hotel is full of character with a lovely little bar area, and Richard the owner is to be congratulated on running such a wonderful place. We will certainly be back next year.
Shap Wells Hotel

Stayed here several times, even a couple of times when they had only just re opened following each of the Covid lockdowns and always enjoyed, had a fab welcome and the rooms are clean. Not saying its perfect for everyone as some of you will not be a fan of the gold and red decor in the rooms , reception and corridors. But its not shabby its just old fashioned. The bathrooms are moden and the bar and restaurant have had a face lift with a not ultra moden colour scheme of cream and blue but it suits the building style. Dont expect spa, gym or pool and dont expect room service or cocktails. But you will always get a warm and friendly welcome and service. The setting is off the beat and track , but worth finding this gem, at the side of the woods , with stream running over waterfall and rock oh and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels. Food is good at breakfast though no veggie sausages which some did complain about, food is good value in the evening though a limited choice of 4 starters 4 mains and 4 puds including a veggie option. Yorkshire portions for the main and loads of veg. Bar prices higher than pub prices but not that bad for a hotel.
The George Hotel

A very comfortable historic and traditional hotel that ticked all the boxes for our lovely stay in the centre of Penrith. Our room was fine, bed comfy, shower great. Big tick for Elemis shower gel and shampoo dispensers! WiFi worked better in the (large) lounge. There is a car park behind the hotel but short-stay spaces in front of the hotel for unloading. They give you a disk for the one-hour parking and a map to navigate the one way system to end up in the car park right behind. Food was fine and there are also some nice restaurants locally- we liked Gianni and Four and Twenty.
The Greyhound Hotel
4.2/550 Reviews
Spent one night at the Greyhound on the coast to coast. The Greyhound appeared to have been redecorated in recent years. Unfortunately it was chaotic when we stayed possibly because it was full. Initially they could not find our booking. We were grateful to have our bag carried to our room, we were not given any information, however the information sheet in our room showed Sunday breakfast to be 8.30. We went to breakfast early 8.20 and chaos ruled. They were finishing breakfast and thought everyone had been served so they were very surprised to see us! It seemed many of the other guests were complaining. The manager stepped up, sat us in the bar and served us personally. Our breakfast turned out to be good. Organisation definitely needed improvement ie check the information sheets in the rooms, keep a check on what guests are turning up to breakfast. This is a good place to stay pity about the chaos
