La Locanda

The location of the hotel is convenient to art galleries and cafés. From the hotel to the entrance of the volcano national park is about 25 minutes drive . The hotel is very charming, very clean and the staff are fantastic. The food was great, breakfast and dinner were included. This is not a luxury hotel, and it’s slightly overpriced.

We had a very nice stop over here on our way to Uganda to see the mountain gorillas. Our room was comfortable, spacious with rooms for two chairs anda table, clean bathroom with plenty of hot water. The meals were very good and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Sitting by the fireplace on a cold Musanze evening and being plied with wine is a wonderful thing. Good wine is difficult to come by in Rwanda, or exceptionally expensive, so being able to sip all-inclusive wine all evening is a real treat. The sitting area is cosy and comfy. But I’m afraid that’s where my positive feedback ends. The rooms are nice but we had no lights in the bathroom, just open wires sticking out of the walls. The bed was comfortable but the walls so thin, it sounded like the people in the room next to us were right next to us. We could hear even whispers and light snoring. The outside seating area is nice but nothing about this experience was worth the amount we paid. I visited La Locanda before and it was half the price, which felt more appropriate with the standard of accommodation. No improvements have been made to justify the doubling of costs, as far as I can see. I don’t know if we were unlucky but the food was very basic and lacking flavour. Our desert was half a banana on a side plate with a segment of apple. The spa could be nice but there were works going on so we couldn’t use. All in all, a perfectly fine experience but worth half the price you pay, no more.

A beautiful place to stay in Musanze. The accomdations and service at La Locanda are fantastic! While many people visiting the Musanze area opt for accomodations that may be closer to Volcanoes National Park, they are missing a true gem by not staying at La Locanda. The food is fantastic and included in the base price. Do yourself a favor and stay at La Locanda when visting the Musanze area.

My husband and I stayed here for the third time in three years. We volunteer for nearby Handspun Hope and the Ellen Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund as often as we can. The lovely Italian owner, Alberto, took the opportunity during the travel lull of Covid to make some fabulous renovations. The breakfast room is like a garden conservatory, with glass doors and windows overlooking a beautiful, serene green space with lovely flowers and hedges. The rooms are very comfortable with mosquito netted beds. The internet worked everywhere. There is a cozy room with a fireplace near the main "living room" area with three large couches for guests to get to know each other. Breakfast and Dinner is served daily. We stayed nearly two weeks. We look forward to returning. We love it there.

Dinner here was one of the best meals I had on my whole 2 week East African trip, and the staff was super helpful and friendly. The room left a little to be desired, and the rutted dirt road leading to the hotel was unfortunate, but all in all this is a nice choice for people visiting Volcanoes Park.

It’s a wonderful place we stayed for 4 nights everything is very spoiling the room the food which is included in the room price and all the other’s services like free drinks laundry and above all the stuff I can rated this place 12 in a scale of 10
