It is set on the Sarapiqui River in a lush beautiful peaceful surrounding. The rooms are spacious and modern, the staff friendly and accommodating, the restaurant had a wide variety of delicious items. Will definitely return on my next trip to the area!

Tucked away off the main road. Great for bird watching, frogs - poison dart and red eyed green tree - and snakes. Saw tarantula, frogs, and snakes on the night walk. White water rafting next door. Not many places outside the hotel to eat, but the downstairs Italian restaurant was excellent. Loved having breakfast watching the birds feed. They do have some bungalows across the road which we switched out of - you'd be far away if you had one of those

Tolle Anlage!

This was our favorite hotel on a tour of Costa Rica... Not lux but super comfy and clean. The setting was perfect, spread out so you had plenty of room to walk, relax and hang out. The room was big w/ 2 double beds and a day bed and plenty of room to move around. The beds were comfy and the towels, linens and pillows were all clean & fluffy. Cleaning daily was nice. All the walkways leading to rooms were covered so if it was raining you stayed dry. The pool was great and the kids enjoyed swimming while watching the monkeys in the trees above us. There was a bird station by the dining room to watch the birds including toucans and many others hanging out. Focus definitely on nature and natural surrounding w/ trails, a swinging bridge over the river where we watched the full moon come up.. The meals were all Buffett, very good and offered many options so that everyone was happy. The bathroom size was sufficient and water pressure good. They had a pod type coffee service in the room and on check in there were 2 pods but if you needed more pods, sugar or powdered creamer you had to walk out to the lobby and buy more at $3. per pod no matter how many nights you were staying, that seemed a little chintzy but you could walk up to the dining room where coffee was ready at 6 AM and watch the birds. If you are a light sleeper you do hear noise from other rooms if they were loud or slammed doors and the howler monkeys were loud but we loved waking up to them..

We stayed in room 45 directly in front of the river and it was lovely. There are chairs in front of rooms where you can sit and nature watch. We saw a troop of monkeys, kingfishers, herons, cormorants, toucans and other birds from right outside our room. We also were lucky enough to see a sloth in the parking lot. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, bathroom is clean and with lots of hot water. The covered walkways are great so you can get around without getting wet. You can also see blue jean frogs and bullfrogs from the walkways. In the morning we walked on the onsite trail and saw different birds, frogs and another monkey. Food here is fine not great, but you can get coffee and biscuits all day which is convenient. My parents did the bird tour with Carlos and said he was really knowledgeable and they loved the tour. Particular highlights were seeing a collared forest falcon, tiger heron and toucans. We got some good chocolate from the gift shop. We have been very happy here and would recommend it, particularly rooms 45 and 44 for the view

If you are looking for a nature get away, this is the spot. Howler monkeys swing through the trees right outside your rooms and by the pool. Blue jeans frogs, red eyed tree frogs, and iguanas can be found all around if you are looking. So many beautiful flowers and animals abound. Peaceful and relaxing. What you won't find is a hot tub, TV, spa, or any other similar amenities. You won't need it if you are there to enjoy nature. The pool is warm and the drinks are nice. They set out fruit for the birds by the dining room each morning so you can have your coffee while bird watching.

We spent two nights at Selva Verde Lodge during our Costa Rica trip. The lodge offers beautiful, spacious rooms with air conditioning, which were honestly the best accommodations we had during our trip. The property is well-maintained, featuring its own trails, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, and daily guided activities. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help. However, we found the lodge to be too busy to our liking, even during the low season, which detracted from the feeling of being in the wild nature. Photographic opportunities were limited, as the different perches could be set up in a more photo-friendly way. Additionally, the food was disappointing. Although advertised as local cuisine, it felt and tasted overly adapted to Western preferences. It's important to note that our disappointment stems from our travel style, which favors adventure and rough wilderness experiences. We can easily see how this lodge would be perfect for older travelers, families with kids, or those who want to enjoy natural surroundings while benefiting from nearby facilities. Overall, while Selva Verde Lodge didn't meet our expectations as adventure travelers (which the lodge cannot be blamed for as that is our own responsibility), it has many qualities that would appeal to others seeking a comfortable and nature-friendly stay.

Stayed for 2 nights as a family of 5 and would happily have stayed for longer. Large comfortable air conditioned room with a balcony and hammock overlooking the river. Humming birds darting around the pretty flowers planted around the accommodation and howler monkeys spotted (and most definitely heard!) across the river. We felt truly immersed in nature at the lodge, spotting toucans, raccoons, monkeys, tree frogs and poison dart frogs and river turtles in the grounds and even being joined poolside by an enormous iguana (who we nicknamed Estevan). Pool area was lovely - there was an interesting trail around the grounds and plenty of quiet spaces to contemplate life in. Breakfast was a delicious buffet and we enjoyed the pizzas in the on site Italian restaurant. Minor gripe that the room wasn’t set up for 5 when we arrived, but that was swiftly rectified when we called reception. No fridge in room but there were cold water dispensers on the lodge walkways. Restaurant/ bar staff friendly and welcoming, and all services felt personalised and unobtrusive. Would recommend this hotel for families.
