4-Star Hotels in Canberra

Haha, this hotel definitely requires a bit of an adventurous spirit to stay at! It was built in 1926, so it's celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In the lobby restaurant, there's a very old manual plug-in switchboard. The hotel's past life probably wasn't as a hotel; it gives off more of a government archives vibe 😂. The room facilities are a bit dated, especially the carpet, but there's a certain echo of the 1950s. The bathroom is quite small, and the shower area, in particular, seems like it would be a squeeze for anyone a bit larger. Canberra gets really cold, so it was a thoughtful touch that the hotel provided extra blankets. Overall, I think you need to have a bit of a nostalgic appreciation to truly enjoy this kind of hotel. The service, however, was quite good.

Good location: 2 tram stops from the city centre, walking distance to restaurants Room size and cleanliness quite good Laundry facility is super (wash machine and dryer free, only have to buy washing powder) Breakfast not worth it - no cheese, no hot chocolate/cocao for kids, no freshly brewed coffee (costs extra)

clean room and comfy bed. there are only 2 floors and our room is next to a round about and noise during the day could be quite loud. the hotel decor is not so modern with a bath tub and only a shower screen covering half of it so after showers the bathroom floor is completely wet. breakfast was great and staff at the restaurant were patient and attentive to the needs of customers. hotel staff were helpful and service was good overall except that when we checked out the front desk lady was first reluctant to get staff to check my room but told me if anything is missing from the minibar it will be charged to our card and that we have signed an agreement. of course if we have consumed anything we are happy to pay but we would like the room checked when we are still in the hotel premises rather than being told a day later a dozen drinks have gone missing. I wonder why she did not understand my request. she wasn't rude but what she said could be offensive to some people.

Coming back to my previous review about the Kurrajong and the discrepancy of being double charged for rooms that had already been paid for: I received an Email yesterday evening with the invoice from the Kurrajong but without any notification of a rectification in the invoice. I have emailed them back including the bank statement where explicitly shows that both rooms were paid for for two days of our stay through CC payment online to Trip.com  This issue is most disturbing and disappointing, if it doesn’t get resolved soon it will be the last time we will ever stay at the Kurrajong or use Trip.com again and we will make sure the word gets around! 😠 The extra third night was paid at the hotel by CC. It is more than evident by the invoice and the payment through Trip.com that the Kurrajong over charged us.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help with any questions or requests. The room was clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with a comfortable bed that made for a great night's sleep. The hotel's location was excellent, with easy access to nearby attractions, restaurants, and public transportation.

The hotel is located to the north west of the city centre. Though it is a bit far from the city it is quite convenient, there’s a supermarket (woolies) nearby. Parking is difficult but they provide parking for extra fee per night with unlimited in and out. The hotel is clean, quiet, comfortable and sufficient for our travel purpose to attend an event nearby. I like the double beds (two separate beds) option but this type of room only comes with a disable-friendly bathroom. I wish their double beds are bigger in size and they have a regular bathroom option with a bathtub.

The hotel is close to amenities (shopping centre etc) but has been slowly deteriorating in condition and service over recent years. More recent changes include charging car-parking fees and removal of the restaurant breakfast service. Not up to the standard of other Abode hotels..

The room was generally clean however there were suspicious stains on the couch & steps that lead to the bed. The main king bed was freshly made however there was also a single bed made up in the room also that appeared to have been slept in. Didnt affect our stay though & overall we were quite happy.

We can hear people next door talking as we were arranged to stay at a connecting room. The door crack is so wide that we can hear people next door talking which gives a sense of insecurity. It is suggested that the door crack should be fixed, for the privacy of people staying at the two rooms who do not know each other.
