This was our second time at this hotel and we stayed for almost a week. You can't beat the location on George Street, right downtown, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms and bathrooms are very nice. The king bed had a good mattress and pillows. There is a safe. They seem to have made upgrades since our last pre-covid stay, including air-conditioning in (all?) rooms. As you would expect in a big city, the rooms are quite small and the hotel is not exactly quiet; also depending on where your room faces. We were right by the elevator, which I generally don't like. I wonder if it's because we booked through our credit card and not direct. It seems there is sometimes a ”penalty'. The rooms are supplied daily with water, delicious cookies and snacks. You can make individual cups of drip coffee in a filter, which is much better than instant coffee but not as good as a Nespresso, IMHO. We had breakfast included and the Printing Press is just wonderful, for breakfast, any meal and later evening cocktails and whiskey. The Burr & Co is a coffee shop, also right next door, with tables outside. Love that place. The hotel has great service. We lost a suitcase and got daily support in checking on the status and changing the address on the delivery. There seemed to be a shortage on hair conditioner and we didn't have a sign for do-not-disturb the first day and got woken at 8 AM, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment of the hotel stay. We expect to be back.

The hotel is fab the staff are great and cannot do more for you , lovely touches provided by guest relations concierge & reception staff are so lovely , catering & bar staff great , the room was lovely , great shower and local produce in rooms such as the coffee etc , social hour is a nice touch and breakfast was great , i would stay here again we had a lovely stay ... however the spa lets it down This was a special birthday suprise for my other half i booked the spa for treatments for us . We were late on arrival due to rail strikes and i missed my spa appointment which is fine i expect that if you are not on time. My partner was still able to recieve his treatment however we were provided with no towels robes or slippers , no info regarding lockers . The massuise gave my partner a robe and was suprised one was not already provided for him after he had to walk around after getting changed into swimwear .The water machine in the ladies changing room did not work the only water available was from a tap in the toilet not ideal as the next water machine was in the lobby opposite the gym , especially not ideal if u have no robe or slippers or towel to go out to it . So if you are are a lady there is no drinking water available , very undignified !! I was not shown to the relaxation room and couldnt go in even if i wanted to as i had no towel or robe . My partner told me the mens changing room stank of urine from a pipe . The staff were not very helpfull or attentive and the service at the spa does not reflect the service or same level of standard as the rest of the hotel . I have had better service at a local lesuire centre and would not use this ”spa” again . My partner and I often use spas and this was by far the worst spa expeirience dissapointing as it was his birthday. I could maybe understand if it was busy but it wasnt .

Stayed here 3 nights and had the most beautiful stay! I’m in love with this hotel and can’t wait to visit again. We were greeted by Liam or luke I’m so sorry I can’t remember his name he was English on reception and he walked us up to our room and he was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The room itself was absolutely beautiful. I love the bar area of the room and the complimentary local cocktails were lovely as well. The bed is so comfy, the housekeeping staff done a fabulous job. I honestly couldn’t fault this hotel at all. We visited sushi samba twice, I would review it on here but can’t find it. We had a lovely server called Mercedes she was wonderful. All in all I can’t wait to return to this hotel.

Great location right in town centre. Staff always helpful and polite. Rooms a good size, nice modern and stylish. Bathrooms great size and had bath and shower. Spa is also nice if a little pricey for use of the outside hydro pool but added to our experience. Concierge great at arranging taxis and helping with luggage. Breakfast was quality and well worth the money with Al a carte and buffet both included no need to choose. Set us up for the day. Would recommend worth every penny made our Edinburgh experience very memorable.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a fantastic experience. The hotel was just as described and lived up to my expectations. The location was perfect for exploring the city, with many attractions and restaurants within walking distance. What really made my stay stand out was the staff - they were super friendly, helpful and always responded quickly to any inquiries I had. Additionally, the hotel's app made everything incredibly easy, from asking questions to checking out. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere that made me feel right at home. I highly recommend Cheval Old Town to anyone visiting Edinburgh and I look forward to staying here again in the future.”

Virgin Edinburgh is a gorgeous hotel with spacious rooms. It’s located super close to the Royal Mile, the castle, and lots of other in-city sights. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We highly recommend the hotel! The only issue we had was that there is no parking at the hotel and it is recommended to park 15 minutes away. I wish there was the option of valet parking for those of us unfamiliar with driving in the city.

We were soles tired right off the plane after figuring out that I had no license and could not get my rental car :( I took it well pouted and walked away. We took the Tram to St Andrew's Square. We needed to be in The border lands in Peebles. We stopped at the Edinburgh Grand. The men at the desk couldn't have been nicer! They called a taxi service not once but twice! They held our bags and said that their was a bar upstairs we could wait at with a wonderful and sweet cocktail waitress and relax. They came and got us when he arrived. Carried our bags to the taxi for us. We will tell this story many times in the future and we will thing of them all fondly.

The good: -Great location -Suite I stayed in was large, clean & quiet -Comfortable bed/bedding The less good: -The lobby staff are a mixture of friendly/standoff-ish; they lack the polish of an “actual” 5-star hotel -Rooms at this price point need proper minibars/snacks –full stop -While the hotel was renovated several years back, my suite needed some maintenance TLC Travelers coming here expecting a 5-star hotel (as marketed) are going to be disappointed. That is, this isn’t remotely a 5-star hotel. No one in their right mind would put this in the same class as a Mandarin, Aman, etc. But, it’s a very solid 4-star property with a lot going for it. So, Bonvoy, why not just advertise it accurately for what it is?

Absolutely brilliant afternoon tea at the palm court. Gluten free scones were the best we’d ever had and we really felt like we weren’t missing out compared to the normal afternoon tea. Only thing we didn’t like was the veggie sandwich with tofu on. Apart from that we really enjoyed every single aspect of the afternoon tea. Staff were lovely and friendly as well. Only thing I could comment on would be that it would be nice to have the option to choose your own sandwiches. Will definitely be back! Would highly recommend for a special occasion or treat.

The hotel is two small villas facing each other on the street, with a small outdoor garden (drinking, afternoon tea) There is no front desk, but the service staff is very friendly and provides welcome tea and cookies. The rooms are generally not big, but the facilities inside are very exquisite. The sunlight shining in in the afternoon is beautiful. The toiletries are whiskey-scented, very nice and high-end. The whole building smells delicious Very good service staff Disadvantages: 1. There is no elevator, but the building is not high, the highest is only the third floor. 2. The location is average. It takes nearly half an hour to walk from the city center. Taking an Uber costs about 4-5 pounds. The advantage is that there is a bus at the door.
