Hilton Garden Inn Erie

I come to this hotel at least once a year. This has to be my 10th visit and the hotel has everything for the business traveler. This time, however, I noticed it was a bit worn. The heater in my room did not work nor did the TV in the gym (which had not been cleaned in a while). I say this to alert management and not to put the hotel down. I still recommend it. The lobby is roomy/bright and the staff is most welcoming and helpful. There is a mini-store in the lobby and good coffee is offered complimentary each morning. Also on the ground floor is a nice restaurant (Safari Grille - see separate review), a breakfast station, a roomy business center, a laundry (2 washers and dryers), a decent sized gym with a set of weights and finally, a pool plus hot tub. The rooms are just right for business with a good sized desk, good lighting, plenty of outlets and a comfortable chair. The closet is adequate as is the bathroom. There is a decent sized flat screen, a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, iron and hair dryer. It is still a great option, but just in need of a little work.
Courtyard Erie Ambassador Conference Center

The difference a day made! I have only positive things to say about my experience at this hotel. Check-in was welcoming and informative. Without prompting, I received a detailed orientation to the site and its amenities, and was encouraged to use them. The commitment to providing outstanding customer service at the Courtyard by Marriott Erie Ambassador Conference Center extends beyond the front desk. Literally every employee I encountered was helpful, gracious, or attentive. For example, one employee gave me recommended two local grocery stores. This morning's breakfast was bountiful and tasty. By contrast, yesterday's breakfast at the Home2 Suites Erie was basic and blah -- breakfast bowls heated by a lamp, plain bagels, and cereal with milk. No yogurt. Mainly for work, I spend approximately 60 nights per year at hotels. I recognize that hospitality is largely performative. Even if hotel employees are in a bad mood, they tend to meet the expectation to smile and provide useful information. My stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Erie Ambassador Conference Center was flawless. This was a sharp contrast to my previous night's stay at the Home2 Suites in Erie. Unlike at the Courtyard by Marriott Erie Ambassador Conference Center, where my stay was very pleasant, there were zero smiles at the Home2 Suites in Erie. At the Home2 Suites, I was not greeted by name, even after I introduced myself to three employees -- front desk; front desk manager; manager on duty. When I tried to ask questions about the location of the elevators and when breakfast was offered, the front desk manager stopped emptying the trash to butt in the conversation and threaten to cancel my reservation. I obtained that information from the manager on duty, but only after she looked it up. My room at the Courtyard by Marriott Erie Ambassador Conference Center was clean and comfortable. All the expected amenities were present. Nothing was untidy. By contrast, my room at the Home2 Suites by Erie was clean-ish. There was no lotion in the bathroom. There was no hair conditioner in the bathroom. In the shower, I noticed a VERY dirt place where one might place a bar of soap. While showering, I discovered that there was NO shower gel in the wall-hung dispenser. When I removed its cover, I confirmed the dispense was bone dry. Yet another letdown by the Home2 Suites by Erie. I mean, essentially an employee has to *never* check the dispenser for it to be empty. I had high hopes that my next stay at the Home2 Suites, for which I had pre-paid would be more pleasant. I confirmed my reservation with Hilton Honors on 5-31-23 and 6-1-23. I used the Hilton app to select my room and check-in on 6-1-23. As I approached the front desk at 3 p.m. to get my card keys, I saw the side profile of the front desk manager from the day before. She dashed into the office, closed the door, and canceled my reservation at 3:02 p.m. In my experience, that is an all-time low in customer service by a hotel employ
Holiday Inn Erie

First time staying here and most likely will be the last. I frequently stay at Holiday Inns primarily because the service is great and the rooms are spotless. Very disappointed with this location. Check in - the front desk clerk was pleasant but with 3 adults was a bit surprised we were given 1 entry key. Ok, no big deal, usually given 2 but maybe they were short on keys. Got to the room, king size bed with a pull out couch. On the surface the room appeared to be clean. I have worked in several hotels so I know what to look for. Once I began my standard room exam (for bugs and dirt) I was not happy with what I found. 2 pillows and the blanket on the bed had stains. Big enough where I don't understand how it passed the inspection of the laundry attendants. I could tell the cases were laundered by the smell. Not sure about the blanket. I went to the closet to inspect the sheets, pillows and blanket for the pull out. On fitted sheet found several hairs. Pillow protectors were dirty, one pillow case dirty. At this point I decided not to pull the couch out to sleep. Not sure what I would find. By this time I was becoming extremely irritated. Unacceptable for $250 a night. The hotel was crowded and by this time I was exhausted so I just used the flat sheet to cover the couch and went to sleep- not comfortable but oh well. Next morning went to breakfast, dogs and screaming kids all over the place, my daughter informed me that this is the hotel very close to Splash Lagoon (kids now make sense). After a horrible night of kind of sleep on a rock hard couch, screaming children weren't a welcome sound. Sorry. The ONLY good thing was breakfast, large portions and it was really good and made to order. BTW, include it when you book if you want breakfast in the morning. Not cheap and there aren't microwaves in the rooms, another thing I thought was weird. A family of 4 will spend $60+ for a meal and a drink. Another plus was a nice lady at the front desk named Joyce, per her name tag. Very helpful and kind. Other employees were somewhat cordial but indifferent so Joyce stood out. Overall, I give this stay 5 out of 10. Would not stay here again. Expected better for the costs.
Super 8 by Wyndham Erie/I 90

It's an older building but has all those little extras that are so important for people that aren't staying for vacation purposes. I can't express how having a fridge and microwave when staying in a motel are essential more than you realize until you stay somewhere that doesn't offer those extras. Also they provide coffee maker, ice bucket, blow dryer, shampoo and conditioner, soap, and continental breakfast.
