Galtres Lodge Hotel & Forest Restaurant

really friendly and helpful staff and in a good central location. we were there for my wifes 50th and our wedding anniversary. despite finding mould in the shower we had a nice evening meal but found hair in the breakfast which was replaced undercooked. the second breakfast was marred by the table not haveing been cleaned from the previous evening which is when we took pictures. had we realised the extent of the mold, we would of found a new hotel on day one

Fab location but needs a little TLC. We were allocated Room 2 which over looked the secret garden The curtains wouldn’t shut properly as half the hooks were hanging off the rail. The carpet could do with replacing and there are items in the room that make it feel old and dusty ie suitcases/boxes on roof shelves. The bed was clean but the mattress had a slope on it which made sleeping a little awkward, the pillows were lovely and comfortable. The ensuite shower is horrendous all black slate tiles and black grout which didn’t make it inviting at all. it was missing an extractor fan as the ensuite was so damp and steamy after using the shower it was a haven for mould and with the black tiles and grout made it difficult to determine if mould was present. The breakfast was lovely but wasn’t comfortable in the dining area I’m not a fan of the plastic artificial follage decor as it’s difficult to maintain cleanliness again a haven for dust. Very disappointing

The Galtres Lodge is a great location to stay in York. It is steps away from the Shambles and York Minister. It also has a wonderful restaurant attached called the Forrest which served one of the best dinners we had in England. . We highly recommend a stay here.

We spent one night at the Galtres and would certainly return. Our room ( No6) was a decent size , very clean, with comfortable bed etc but what made it that bit more special was the huge bathroom with roll top bath plus shower etc , all housed in a former strong room with thick steel door and surround ... super quirky 👌 Breakfast was fine and was just what we needed. Major plus point is that you could not beat the location , right in the heart of York on the cusp of the Shambles and just round the corner from the Minster, huge selection I'd restaurants and bars within short walking distance. Parking in Q park a few minutes walk away was £16.00 for 24hrs ( inc preferential discount that you get by being a guest at the Galtres) All positive and no negatives.

Amazing property, friendly staff, spotless rooms, and breakfast included. Bar there with cocktails. Nothing was too much trouble. First stay, and definitely returning

Perfect location for a visit to York and really excellent breakfast. Our room at the top of the hotel was very compact but reasonably comfortable. The en-suite shower room was definitely the smallest we have ever seen. Usable but tiny- and for larger people probably challenging!
