Lugu Lake

Lugu Lake, located at the junction of Yanyuan County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province and Ninglang County, Yunnan Province, is co-governed by Sichuan and Yunnan. The east of the lake is Lugu Lake Town, Yanyuan County, and the west is Yongning Township, Ninglang County. It is the third largest deep-water lake in China, with an average depth of 45 meters, the deepest part reaching 93 meters, transparency up to 11 meters, and the maximum visibility is 12 meters. The lake water is clear and blue, and it is the highest altitude lake in Yunnan. The surrounding area of Lugu Lake is mainly inhabited by 7 ethnic groups including Mosuo, Yi, Pumi, and Mongolian. The beautiful natural environment and unique ethnic customs make it a famous tourist area. Due to the reasons of tectonic movement, the triangular surface of the cliffs around the lake and the U-shaped glacial valley landforms are everywhere, which has created the unique natural lake shape of Lugu Lake. There are 5 islands, 4 peninsulas, and one long island in Lugu Lake, each with different shapes, green as jade. Being in it, the water and the sky are the same color, clear as a mirror, and algae flowers are dotted in it. The pig trough boat slowly sliding on the blue waves and the Mosuo folk songs slowly floating between the water and the sky add a bit of simplicity and tranquility. It is a virgin lake far away from the hustle and bustle and unpolluted. The lake is surrounded by mountains, with Gemu Goddess Mountain standing high on the lakeside, and Houlong Mountain wedging into the heart of the lake, forming a horseshoe-shaped Lugu Lake. Due to good runoff conditions and relatively abundant water supply, and relatively small water loss, as a semi-closed lake, Lugu Lake, no matter from which angle you look at her, you will be conquered by her beautiful scenery. The water is clear and leisurely, white flowers bloom, birds fly on the water, and the breeze blows on the face.
