Golden Tulip Aix EN Provence
4.2/567 Reviews
The Golden Tulip chain of hotels renovated this venue a couple of months ago, and created a very efficient, modern and comfortable hotel, very suitable for business and en-route stays. It's located next to the autoroute from Aix-en-Provence to Lyon. Downtown Aix is about a 10 mins. drive. The beds (as in all Golden Tulip hotels) are amongst the most comfortable we've ever slept in! Bathroom modern and efficient. The staff consist of mostly young, enthusiastic people with a modern attitude to service. Definitely a hotel that differs itself positively from the standard en-route French hotel-style! The restaurant should be upgraded somewhat. The menu is limited and as downtown is a bit out, guests should be able to have a bit more choice in the menu.

Unexpectedly nice! We came to this hotel for one night because it's near the TGV station and we'd been unable to get into our hotel in Aix's old town until next day... This hotel turned out to have really comfortable well decorated modern rooms, excellent helpful staff and very generous extras: such as unlimited free mineral water and croissants in the hall, and free beer for anyone who didn't want to watch the rugby world cup in the restaurant/bar. (I should add that the hotel was quiet and so were the guests). A real effort has been made with the small landscaped garden and play areas, the swimming pool was clean and pleasant even though it was the end of the season, and the outlook very green over the golf course. The breakfast was absolutely the best I have ever had in France, with real French cheeses instead of the usual processed stuff, and fresh fruit and proper patisseries as well as eggs (and the meat was doubtless good too). The location was the main flaw for guests like us wishing to avoid using a car. It is a short taxi ride from the TGV station, but a half-hour bus journey to Aix proper through anodyne business areas. The other flaw - which wouldn't affect the sports fans or young families with cars who seem to be the usual guests - was the incredibly tiny bath. Sadly I fell trying to get out of that bath and am still dealing with the injury. I must add that we had come back again at very short notice for one further night, and again the staff were excellent and so was the room in all other respects...I should have used the shower that night instead!

We recently spent four nights here and i can't rave enough! We made reservations primarily based on reviews we read here and we thought the hotel was even better. We were traveling as a family with our teenage daughter and booked the junior suite which was perfect. A large room by European standards and it was perfect. We had a fold out twin bed and we could move around the room with it open. The location was great - close enough to everything but not overrun by street noise and busy crowds. We walked to dinner every night and one restaurant was better than the next. We spend one day in Aix-en-Provence and did day trips the other days. There was so much to see and visit in the area but more about the hotel. The front desk staff were so nice and so helpful. Mostly younger but so attentive and helpful making reservations for us, changing tickets to a site we booked when our daughter wasn't feeling well and offering great suggestions. The breakfast was also a big hit. I would recommend getting it included. There is a beautiful outdoor garden to eat in. Plentiful food and great variety from bacon and eggs to a continental breakfast of pastries and fruit. Lastly, we booked the parking spot which was a big plus. It was a short walk from the lobby and it was great to not have to worry when we returned from our adventures about where to park. Can't recommend enough. We look forward to returning.

The Hotel in Aix en Provence was a disaster. It is nothing like the pictures make it out to be on Trip advisor or anywhere. These are taken by a professional well photoshopped and are long stretch away from what you see in the pics. The room for 3 does not have space for bags in the bedroom and barely any space to walk over to the other side of the bed..I would say max 1.5ft. Once the sofa bed is laid out in the living area, there is no way to move within the room at all. The arm rests of the sofa beds are black while the sofa itself is brown. No different in any other room. The room stank of smoke and the floor boards were shredding in some parts esp the toilet. We moved out within a couple of hours and stayed at another property in Provence. Don't spoil your vacation by staying here.

Hygiene requires limited services, but we have or appreciate the tranquility of the hotel and the availability of staff. Excellent location, within walking distance to town. Possibility of parking on the street with parking meters.

Nice staff but the street side room was not soundproofed. The noise from the first workers on the road at 6am was annoying. We had booked for 3 and the towels were for 2 people and the duvet for the 3rd bed was missing. I called reception and they quickly set up what was needed but at 11:00 in the evening I would have preferred to go to bed without having to call about it. It can happen, I understand. In the room there is 1 tea bag and 1 herbal tea but there were 3 of us, no bottle of water apart from those in the fridge (to be paid) The breakfast room in the hall without a real separation is not is not great. During breakfast we are on the door where customers come and go and we hear the calls from the reception staff... something should be done to properly separate and soundproof the spaces. For me it's not a 4 star. 3 stars max. Example of a different recent experience that I like: I was in Lille the previous weekend with my daughter for the same reason. University competition. In the Lille hotel (3 stars, Best Western)) when we arrived they offered to bring forward the Saturday breakfast time to 6:30 a.m. (usually at 7:00 a.m.) to give my daughter and other young people who were there for the same reason the possibility of having breakfast in peace given that the competition started at 8:00 a.m. They gave us a map of the city with directions to the exam center. Lots of attention to the customer, impeccable service, silent rooms, 2 bottles of water in the room on arrival and 2 herbal teas per person...in fact, it only takes a few details that don't cost much to make the difference.
