We stayed in the Alvor Atlantico Hotel for nearly three weeks and would recommend. We had a Studio Superior, with a Sea View. We were on the 7th floor and the view was absolutely beautiful, we could see all of the beach from the beach at the Atlantida Restaurant to the very end. It was lovely to wake up to. The hotel itself was very quiet, there's no bar, there is an indoor pool, which we didn't use and it was also very clean. The Studio was well equipped with a 2 ring cooker, fridge and plates and cutlery, we had a problem with the cooker and the kettle which was sorted out for us, no problem. We had one rainy day when we didn't fancy going into Alvor, you can book dinner (or breakfast) in the Dom Joao Hotel, which we did for the one night, it was only a 5 minute walk away. It was buffet style but was very good. It's a 20 minute walk into the harbour or centre of Alvor on the boardwalk which was a nice way to start the evening. We will definitely stay here again. The beds were comfortable, a bit hard for my personal liking, the shower was good with plenty of pressure, so all in all would recommend.

Fantastic hotel. Rooms cleaned every day location great. Reception staff very helpful and always had a smile Big thank you to Thomas ( I think that’s his name) at reception. Almost every night we asked him for directions to restaurants/ bus stops etc and he was so good at explaining it to us. Lovely pool area small but quiet and relaxing Breakfast staff were fine but a simple smile in the morning would have been nice A bit “ grumpy “ to say the least. Umberto was just great. He’s the tall one. Always had the biggest smile for you when we walked in. Very very nice man. Would recommend this hotel. If I ever return to ALVOR , I will certainly return to this hotel. !!! Just to say the jet 2 rep was wonderful. I took ILL one morning and she went above and beyond to help me. Phoned later that day to check on me and also the following day too. Wish I could remember her name. So a big thank you to her !!!

We’ve just returned from a week at Tivoli, Alvor, the weather has been amazing, we didn’t see a cloud all week, unfortunately the hotel really didn’t meet our expectations. There are so many areas across the hotel that could be improved, that really would have changed our experience. Firstly the pool areas, there aren’t enough sunbeds for guests. The sunbeds they do have are all pushed together, with no space between you and the next family. Getting a sunbed was also another issue, people were out reserving sunbeds first thing and we saw towels out all day without anyone return. Due to the number of guests in the hotel, on occasions towels had ran out by early afternoon. It’s not something we really expected from a 5* hotel. It’s been mentioned in other reviews, but expect to queue, I understand it’s August, but there clearly weren’t enough staff to cope with the number of guests. We queued for drinks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, booking restaurants, the BBQ…the list goes on. They often ran out of cutlery, glasses and plates. We did really feel for the staff, who were obviously under pressure, but I would say while we came across some lovely friendly staff members, we also encountered lots of staff who were unhelpful and quite rude. The food was average, pretty hit and miss, it did get quite repetitive. The Mexican night was our favourite, but only one chef serving the amount of guests, We did really love the train to Alvor and the beach was amazing. The room was cleaned daily, but was quite small for the 4 of us. For the price we paid for the holiday, we were really disappointed.

This was our 5th time staying at the AlvorMar, we normally travel as a couple but on this occassion our family of 5 travelled. The apartment was a 2 bedroom is was very spacious loads of room, beds where comfy, balcony huge, cooking facilities if required, fresh towels, bedlinen spotless, apartment cleaned every day except Sunday. We have stayed previous in the premium 1 bedroom we are exceptional also. The pool is fantastic with a great pool bar serving food and drink and roof terrace is perfect for great sea views and relaxing. Having travelled to Alvor on many occcasions without doubt the AlvorMar is the best place to stay. It is minutes to the gorgeous beach and seconds to the town. The staff are very friendly and helpful and its just the perfect location. Thank you AlvorMar for another great stay, we will be back in July.

We last stayed at The Penina 27 years ago and I can honestly say that it has hardly changed. The hotel needs a complete facelift. Peeling paint on the hotel exterior is everywhere. Access to the golf driving range and other amenities is dreadful. At this time it is a bit like spot the guest. Sunday afternoon, just a maximum of 10 people at the pool. The restaurant likewise. Hardly any patrons and a total lack of atmosphere. The sad fact is that if people stop visiting, the hotel will die a miserable death. I cannot understand why there is a two tier system for wifi. Surely most hotels now offer this for free. On the plus side throughout the hotel the staff are delightful with many having been here for many years. There are about five restaurants but there never seems to be more than three open at any one time. They do offer very good food which is really inexpensive and of good quality. The buffet breakfast is extensive with more than enough choices. We would love to come next year and bring our whole family, but quite honestly I couldnt do that with what I have seen over the last 5 days. My view is that unless the management do something really proactive that with the intense competition elsewhere this once really lovely hotel is going to fail. Having said all of the above, the cost of the accommodation was competetive and good value. We have enjoyed ourselves and give all credit to the wonderful staff without whom this would be a very different place.

Stayed in room 426A had front / side sea/rock view and table and chairs and 2 sun loungers on the balcony !! Majority of balconies are very small so we got lucky. However no late afternoon / evening sun to enjoy them! Nice to sit in the shade though as it was very hot in august 32 degrees! Aircon at hotel needs improving especially in restaurant. Fridges also need improving. Woukd be good to have kettle and mugs in room! We took a travel kettle and took mugs and spoon at breakfast time then cleaned stored in cupboard! Lovely views across gardens/dunes to sea. We were b&b. Food wasn’t the best, granola only out a few days and queues for pancakes and eggs. Paid for dinner one evening (Bella italia night) was terrible. Choose to eat out instead. Lots of nice places. Many places have deals before 7pm in town. Big reds outside hotel was a good place to eat. Supermarket 100m ok and main intermache is on way into town by road. Has a little cafe doing cheap coffee and sandwiches. Town is nice to walk around. drinks and snacks are expensive at hotel. All hotels should have all day water fountains in this day and age to keep people hydrated and save the planet! Used spa area on lat day to shower and it’s a nice cool place modern and clean. Don’t miss the giant chess board behind the restaurant and park is behind kids club. Staff there seemed really miserable. Bar man was a nice guy we did buy drinks and he often gave us ice to cool our water down! Get a private transfer with Uber. It took 2 hours on arrival as last stop with jet2! It’s a 1 hour drive from airport without stops! One major concern was some awful looking gunk lurking in the corner of the pool. My son did not want to get in. I reported to staff and they came many times trying to fish out gunk with a net it needed a bucket! Never seen this before! Also the brown stain around the water level on the pool should have been painted / cleaned over winter! Makes the pool look old and dingy. Overall this hotel would have been a 4 star manny years ago but is quite old fashioned and needs improvements to be a four star. Location is the thing that helps this hotel. Although he warned the lack of pavements in Alvor can be stressful with young children!

We stayed at villa with 3 bathrooms, two bedrooms. The villa is located with the view of a parkinglot. The villa had thin walls and we were woken up by the neighbours during the night. The bathrooms have no ventilation and the windows needs to be open at all times, so mosquitos enters the house. The showers were also flooded during use. There was an awful sewage stench from one of the bathrooms. That shower had no antislid, so using that shower was also a ”deathtrap” as it became very slippery. The kitchen was underwhealming no drinkingglasses, only one breadknife, lacking cuttlery so on. The gym is underwehealming lacking most basic equippments. The indoor pool facility looked nice but there was a bad smell. The outdoor poolarea was ok but very basi. The garden surrounding the pool was nicer but could be much better kept. We didn't eat at the area bc the buffets provided didnt appeal to us. As we already have experinced Pestana's standardbuffets before, we decided for better alternatives. We recommenf eating in Alvor, or at other surrounding restaurants instead. The best thing about this place is Alvor Beach! Beautiful! The staff (reception and housekepping) was very unprofessional and very slow. The cleaningladies seemef overworked. The were very nice but didnt clean properly.
