"I love the community area with a small pantry where allows us to have a quick meal."

Aso Base Backpackers ★★

"Read all reviews carefully before booking. Believe me, this is not the standard in Japan. Dormitory rooms have no door (only curtains) so there is no point in "female only" rooms. The beds have no curtains. Male staff enter rooms suddenly because knocking is not possible. Male guests also come in unconsciously. Three dorm rooms are in a small area without doors... if one person snores, everyone hears it. Even though there was plenty of space next to the bed, every time the staff entered the room, they moved my luggage without asking and blocked the locker under the bed. No bed or ladder beyond my bed, no one walks there. When I left my wet folding umbrella open just a little bit to dry, they closed it while it was still wet, and they placed it right next to my luggage. I didn't think the staff was doing this, but they admitted it. Please look at the attached photos: I put my luggage like the first one, away from the locker. They say "Your luggage is in the middle of the room, blocking the walkway", and they moved my luggage to the opposite side, blocking the locker. This made the same amount of walking space as where I chose to put my luggage."

KAMENOI HOTEL ASO

KAMENOI HOTEL ASO ★★★★

📍 5936 Ichinomiyamachi Miyaji, Aso

"It was a wonderful experience. The room was nice and it was a nice size and quite spacious for 2 luggages. Parking is free with lots of parking space . Knowing the hotel is remotely located, we included dinner & breakfast in our itinerary. It’s buffet style and was sumptuous and very well worth the extra paid. We booked the Kumamon themed room and loved our rooms The hot baths was also nice. It’s seperated into male and female baths. Check in and out was seamless. Overall a wonderful experience."

Hotel Suncrown Oaso ★★

📍 4518-4 Ichinomiyamachi Miyaji, Aso

"This hotel was great during my trip to Aso, and the location was excellent. The only minor issue was the insects in the room, but I felt it was fair for the price."

📍 385-1 Uchinomaki, Aso

"Regarding the location, I think it's good, surrounded by nature with views of Aso. The convenience store is a bit far, but there's a shop within the facility, so it's not a problem. The service is good, and the front desk staff are all smiles, which is great. However, the welcome drink is only available until 6 PM, and when I went at 5:58 PM (by my watch), they had already started cleaning up and refused to serve me. The food offers a variety of dishes, but the taste is just a little bit lacking. The whole place feels a bit old, but the room I stayed in had been renovated, and the in-room bath was nice. In the evening, there are festival-like events, which I think would be fun for families."

Fairfield by Marriott Kumamoto Aso ★★★
"Beautiful hotel with Mountain Views. The hotel looks spectacular and is very clean. The room is very spacious. Location is perfect as it shares the same building as the mall. You can use the lift which brings you directly to the mall. The mall has shops like Uniqlo, ABC Mart and many more, including a food court with various food options. There are 3 washing machines in both the male & female public onsen area, however it is pretty difficult to get a chance to wash your clothes. The hotel seems like a popular wedding venue, however it does not disrupt the stay as the guests do not seem to linger in the lobby at all. There’s a Nescafé coffee machine which you can help yourself to outside the public onsen, along with Kumamoto’s fresh spring water tap for drinking. For parking, please avoid the carpark infront of the mall as it is expensive. If you’re facing the mall, the hotel’s carpark is at the left side basement of the mall. The hotel provides a discounted price at off-peak periods. It’s best to leave your hotel before 12 noon. It is paid parking and there’s a ticket machine at the basement entrance of the hotel. The hotel location is perfect as it is also very close to a station."

"The service provided here is up and beyond. I love that the whole set up gives not only space for people to mingle, also proper work space to have your alone time if you need it. A beautiful kitchen set up as well, I felt very safe and clean staying here. It was my first time using a kotatsu table too, a dream come true. I listened to some cd displayed for anyone to listen on a headphone. So much fun. The location is perfect too, super close to Aso Station, where we get to everywhere."

KAMENOI HOTEL ASO ★★★★
"The food and accommodation were amazing! They even provide yukata (a casual kimono) to wear, and the onsen (hot spring) facilities are really special. Besides the regular hot springs, they also have mud masks and a hot mist sauna! The late-night ramen was delicious too! It was a great experience, absolutely no downsides except for the price, haha! 🤭"

Kosugi Resort Lodge ★★★
"It was wonderful. The facilities were a bit dated, so there was a slight damp smell in the room, but the shower facilities were good and the space was spacious, making it comfortable for my family to stay in one room. The scenery surrounding the accommodation was magnificent. We had some trouble checking in because there was no one at the front desk, but the issue was resolved within an hour after making a phone call. The Trip.com website stated that check-in was 24 hours, but when we actually arrived, we found that the reception had specific operating hours. All the staff were kind and helped us a lot to ensure a comfortable stay."

Hotel Suncrown Oaso ★★
"The location is convenient for transportation, saving the trip to the attractions the next day. There is a large supermarket opposite, which is very convenient. The room is for four people, with one bed per person. The Japanese-style room, lamp, quilt and pillow are all comfortable. I slept well this night. Although it is old, the service and items are exquisite and not sloppy. The room has a little smell, but it does not affect it. There is free coffee on the first floor."

"Great onsen ryokan experience! The private onsen was worth the extra cost. Places has free karaoke and ping pong, which need to be pre-booked, so get in early to book your spots. The buffet dinner and breakfast was sublime. I've never eaten so much and such good food before. No stomach is big enough. The private onsen is the highlight, but there are also different types of onsen's that can be tried. There is an indoor one, and a outdoor one, and family onsen's that can be booked. You'd never want to leave the place. Highly recommended."
