the elevator was incredibly slow and tiny, the rooms were cold, there was no refrigerator, no towel rails, no safe and the heating did not work. The room was also noisy, the entrance was inaccessible. I will never say here again

Today we visited the Bistro at the hotel and can’t recommend it highly enough. We booked the 3 course Birmingham Restaurant Festival menu and were highly impressed. All of the courses were delicious with large and filling portions. Our server Ben was friendly, helpful and attentive. He gave us recommendations for sides and accompaniments which were perfect. We liked that it was a nice chilled experience with time to allow each course to settle before the next course was brought out not like some restaurants where the courses are brought out like a conveyer belt. We had the promotional menu today but from looking at the menu the normal prices are reasonable for the standard and quantity of food that you receive. The Sunday lunches looked amazing!! We had never visited before today but will definitely return. Thank you to Ben and the team.

Myself and a colleague had lunch at the Bistro this week which we very much enjoyed. We were well looked after by Money and Shantel from start to finish! The surroundings and ambience were lovely, the service we could not fault! We had the hake and the schnitzel, both delicious! And for dessert Shantel recommended the tarte tatin du jour (apple tart) - we were both blown away, it was delicious! We were made to feel so welcome and valued that we would not hesitate to return! Thank you so much!

Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was very comfortable, perfectly clean, bathroom was large and well appointed.
Air con was quiet and worked very well.
Bar staff were fast and made a great cocktail.

A perfect venue for our conference dinner. The hotel staff were absolutely excellent helping us with last minute changes and they went above and beyond on the night to cater for all of us. The events team are so friendly and helped us organise and deliver a smooth, professional dinner. The food quality was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The room looked beautiful and the courtyard worked wonderfully for our welcome drinks. We hope to come again.

50 something years ago I came to what was The Eye Hospital with my Father (all was good in the end) so it was a little bit of intrigue that I arrived back in my home town to visit once more but now with HDV in residence. The hotel follows the same HDV formula and relies on amazing historic buildings, big rooms with great showers and baths and wine to overwhelm. Other essentials such as service and amenities are not at the same level but as long as you know you are not staying in a five star hotel and don’t mind the lack of over attentive staff or lugging your case to you room that’s ok
