"Great owner hosts. Our larger room was very clean and mostly comfortable, though we found the mattress too soft. Some choice of pillows was appreciated though. Both battery powered bedside lamps appear to need new batteries. We contacted the hosts the day before to book for an evening dinner and happily paid the extra cost for an enjoyable meal. The included continental breakfast was very pleasing with crusty, freshly baked bread, etc. The area deserves at least 2 nights so that you can go down the 499 steps at the Mons chalk cliffs in the morning, when the light is kinder."

"Do not expect a castle and do not expect a hotel. This place is more a big victorian (=very old), badly maintained building. I'm sure it can be quite charming in the summer though. The English speaking UK/US couple running it as of late, definitely is not trained hotel people. They're very kind but they do stuff like pouring the last drops an already opened, nearly empty bottle when you order a glass of wine. There is no menu no wine menu, two courses of food and three wines to select from. All in all a worn out place in a beautiful setting, and rudimentary serving."
