Twin was very spacious. Travelling for work and was economical to share, including breakfast. Excellent sized room, decent in-room dining options and quality. Beyond expectations for a la carte breakfast, really smooth coffee. Gym was very well equipped, with light refreshments and storage available. Staff helpful, jovial, patient and friendly. Lovely, heritage building close to light rail and either end of Sydney CBD.

It would be great if the toilet can be larger. The hotel is located in Surry Hills, which is quite convenient. Service is fine. Its just that you have to check-in and check-out by yourself. Facilities? They have a restaurant and bar. Nothing nice to watch in the TV. Cleanness i ok. I can see it is renovated.

attracted by its excellent location within walking distance to Darling Harbour and Pyrmont Bay for ferry access. However, I encountered several issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, the room was not soundproof. We were disturbed by the noise of children and banging on the wall from the adjacent room while trying to sleep. Despite calling the front desk twice, the noise continued, significantly disrupting our rest. Secondly, the handling of a fire alarm incident was inadequate. We were abruptly awakened by a voice announcement instructing immediate evacuation, without any prior investigation. This caused unnecessary panic, leading to some guests slipping on the stairs and others being barefoot. When we reached the lobby, the staff were working as usual and informed us that the alarm was triggered by someone smoking in a room. I believe the hotel should implement a more effective protocol for such incidents, including proper investigation before evacuation orders and clear instructions to avoid panic and injuries. I hope these concerns will be addressed to improve the experience for future guests.

This is an amended review to highlight the ongoing lack of communication from the hotel. It is fair to say that the hotel had some great things going for it but, sadly, customer support is not one of them. Breakfast was excellent and the roof top Aster bar was a great place to enjoy a cocktail and see some spectacular sunsets. However, the whole thing was let down by extremely lacklustre support from the management down. My wife lost her glasses in the hotel. They are prescription reading glasses in very distinct designer frames and were in a sparkly gold box. We asked at the desk during check out if they had been found and were told that they had not been handed in but that reception would check with the Aster bar, where we believe they had been left but was closed at the time of check out. We were due to be in Sydney again in 4 days and the receptionist took all the details and a description of the glasses and case and said that she would email me to give me an update. Sadly we didn’t hear back. Four days later when we returned to Sydney we checked back at the hotel there was no note against our booking and the duty receptionist said nothing could be done but was unable to confirm if a check had been made in the Aster rooftop bar. I asked to speak to the duty manager and an Irish lady, whose name I sadly didn’t get, came out to speak to me. She was very apologetic and said it was not the normal standard we should expect from the hotel and promised to speak to the Aster staff and that she would get back to me by email before the end of the day. Sadly, no further communication was forthcoming and a follow up email to the hotel remains unanswered. We realise that the loss was our fault but the lack of interest from the staff and unfulfilled, empty promises from the management would definitely deter us from staying there again. It would appear that the management have no interest in fostering customer satisfaction.

I really want to love this hotel but as a 5 star hotel, there are a number of basic details that even 4 star hotels get done effortlessly. For one, the check in was surprisingly manual. Having to write out a check in form with my details. I expected they would already have those details from my booking, even though I booked through a third party. Most hotels only ask for a credit card and that's it. But that was almost insignificant compared to the room tech experience. It wasn't made clear to me how to access the wifi compared to other hotels which made for a stressful half an hour trying to figure it out. Calling reception from my room took quite a while for them to pickup too. Worst of all, almost everything is exclusively controlled from a tablet. Turning the tv on and off, even adjusting the volume and changing channels all need to be done from a tablet (not great when it's pitch black). As well as controlling the lights and blinds. I work in tech and this is a classic case of over-engineering. At least give guest a second option for physical controls or tv remotes because that's easier than forcing them to become an expert of your custom room controls when they should be relaxing. Lastly they have a lovely restaurant - Dixson and Sons. But the opening hours are too limited. It isn't open every day or for lunch and seems to close a bit too early at 9pm instead of around at least 10 or 10.30pm. The same limitations apply to the room service. The last 2 issues seem to be a result of them perhaps trying to be more cost effective in order to be high end, but I feel it's ruining the experience. If they could resolve them I'd gladly come here more often, which I really want to. But I felt robbed of a relaxed and delightful experience by the complicated tech and limited restaurant hours.

Situated moments from Circular Quay in an enviable position central to commercial arts and cultural hubs in the heart of the newest hospitality precinct Capella Sydney celebrates the Australian panorama through its interiors location and experiences. The ground level also features an array of meeting and event spaces catering for 10 to 80 persons while wellness-seeking guests will make their way to level six to discover the world-class health and spa facilities.

GGuest User 2023.05.24
I had high expectations of Capella Sydney after staying multiple times at Capella Bangkok and being treated as though I were the most important person in the hotel, just like all of the other guest who stay there are. The attention to service detail at Sydney location unfortunately failed very short to meet my expectations. The booking process on the website was glitchy and the pricing was inconsistent, sometimes showing pricing including tax sometimes not without indication and only upon receiving confirmation via email from reservations was the price confirmed, which did not match the screenshots of the reservation when I placed the booking so I had to go back and forth with reservations via phone and email to simply confirm the accurate pricing for my stay. After creating an account to log on to their booking platform although the option of modifying the booking was offered, the feature did not work on the site, so you had to cancel the booking and book a new booking if you simply wanted to extend by 1 day. This is before I even arrived at the hotel. When I did arrive, it is of course, no small feat that the restoration of this historic building was carried out with the utmost respect for the architecture, from the flooring material to the fenestration and even the internal grand stair way was brilliantly retro-fitted with current code requirements for the handrail in a historically appropriate yet contemporary solution. The hotel does not have many floors, so I encourage anyone to take the stairs to experience the beauty of the restoration work. The recognition of the strong identity of the urban location and sense of place in Sydney’s CBD offers us a promise, an encounter, as the space of the possible. I wish I could say the same about the interior design. There was a real disconnect between the intent of the architecture and that of the interior design. The decoration at best seemed vague, and so for the guest experience, how could one of have a point of view about the effect of the design? The space of the expectant “possible” relationship I was expecting from the simple activity of stepping into Farrer Place’s south entryway marked Department of Agriculture, as local stories interpreting colonial history with ancestral elements of the Eora people by Waayni artist Judy Watso unfolded, or the sense of expansive freedom through the bronze Palazzo doors on Loftus Street into the latent quiet luxury of the grand stair was lost when I was met with the contrasting designs and colours of the lift lobby vestibule axminster carpet and that of the corridor carpet to the guest rooms, able to be seen in the same frame. Although an argument can be made about eclecticism and the use of curating a collection of exceptional vintage and contemporary objects this was not the case here, it read as a mismatched bric-à-brac (to borrow a Victorian word from the building time period that's true meaning in French means ”any old way” or ”at random”). GGuest UserI chosed to stay in this hotel because of its location. I want to be close to the Canley Vale area plus I'm an Accor member so this hotel was the best fit for searches. I was really impressed. I arrived 2 hours early for check up but I was pleasant surprised that .t room and key was all ready to go. The lady at the reception was fantastic she gave me a clear run down of all the facilities and directions. I had a suite and that was outstanding. Had a lounge area, well equipped kitchen, bathtub in bathroom, nice balcony overlooking the pool and a nearby cricket ground. The bed was great nice firm mattress. A very small bad mark with the electronic blackout curtains. I learned how to use it easily but there positions were not totally tight to the end so light was getting in early in the morning. I had breakfasts included and that was great with excellent selections of food. It is right next to the Liverpool Catholic Club so just need a temp pass and you can enjoy the restaurants there and looks like there was a big playground for kids inside. Outside there is a sports building with an ice rink and mini golf. I dont have my kids with me for this trip but I can see they will be very busy if they come here. Parking is free either right outside the hotel uncovered or a little bit further undercover at the Catholic club. All free. The staff was generally well mannered apart from a man on Day 2 at the reception who probably was having a bad day. Special mention to my fellow kiwi from Huntly who looked after me outside the club entrance we had a warm catch up about NZ where I'm from. Check out was super quick and I was well looked after. Overall, if I want to stay around the Liverpool area I would definitely return here again.

AAnonymous UserSince its renovations this hotel now feels very slick and stylish. The rooms look great with its modern look, while still giving off warm and welcoming vibes. Beds are comfortable, and newly renovated bathrooms look great. Unfortunately, all of this aesthetic appeal is let down somewhat by the staff. I was barely greeted or acknowledged by the reception staff, and I was made to feel like I was interrupting them. There was no offer of help for my luggage or even recognition that someone with 2 large suitcases (and a child) would need assistance. The rooms no longer have phones inside them. Rather, the phone number to reception was provided during check-in. This normally wouldn't be an issue, however it seems like they just don't like answering their phone. I tested this theory myself by going into the lobby and calling the reception. Neither staff were attending to guests, and yet I can very plainly see the phone flashing and being ignored. I loved the decor and stylish touches of this new-look Rydges. Sadly, my most memorable experience from this hotel was rolling the hotel baggage cart to my room by myself to take down my luggage.

GGuest User4 night stay for Vivid. Chose this as an Accor member and that it was close to the Harbour. Upgraded to a Prestige Suite, Club benefits and was not disappointed. Yes the building is not new, it’s not like the shiny new hotels in town, but it’s solid and my sleeps were uninterrupted and rarely heard noise from the hall. My Suite 930 was spacious, clean, well appointed, Sofitel Bed topper and electric sockets to plug in my adapters to charge. Like other reviews no USB ports but I’m sure most sensible travellers have an adapter. The Club Sofitel access was the perfect addition. Early check-in and waited with a hot tea while my suite was made up. It was 9:30am but the room was rushed and 30 minutes later I was unpacking. Evening canapés and drinks from 5:30pm. Table drink service by Alley and her dedicated, personable, attentive team. They remember your preferences pretty quickly and it became an oasis from Vivid hoping and sightseeing. My suite completely blocked out the light and slept through 2 alarms, it’s the Sofitel Bed topper. Breakfast at Club Sofitel, peaceful, plenty of options to choose from, salmon and capers to a great gluten free station, eggs cooked to order and a great way to start the day. Try the Dilmah Blood Orange and Eucalyptus tea. Thanks Lara. Afternoon Tea served from 2:30 and daily sandwiches , scones, cakes and complimentary drinks, tea, coffee and soft. On entering the Club Lounge, always a friendly greeting, your preferred drink served and a relaxing space anytime of the day. The Club team really made my stay, they work really hard to make your stay great. Housekeeping always made up my room before my afternoon return. Always a Bonjour as you walked past them in the hall. My stay was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Lobby is grand and the history of this hotel makes her great. Not the newest but I prefer tradition and good honest service. Definitely not the style of hotel for everyone but my expectations were met and exceeded beyond imagination. Club Sofitel is a must. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GGuest UserStayed for first 4 nights whilst visiting Australia. Chose the hotel as it is in a decent location, ( 5 min walk to Circ Quay, plus easy for Rocks, Darling, central area for Hyde Park etc), reasonable cost and the fact they allowed early arrivals into your booked room - availability allowing. We arrived at 7am after a 26 hour flight - and our room (7th floor) was available - allowing us to grab a few hours kip. We didn’t realise that it overlooked Australia Square, which is lively & loud Mon - Fri.. Not a problem on the first night as we’re so tired. The following day we asked if we could be moved, not a problem, we were moved to a quieter room (14th floor) & upgraded at no additional cost. The room was lovely - as were the breakfast’s each morning. I cannot fault the quality of the hotel, cleanliness, friendliness and willingness to help by all the staff. Would I return? Most definitely. 😁

GGuest UserWe had a 1 bed apartment with a view of the harbour which was wonderful, well kitted out for a 9 day stay. (Dishwasher, washing machine, drying rack, cooking kit etc ) It is situated right next door to a grocery shop, coffee shops and take-aways! Donald and his team are fantastic, they really make you feel very welcome and are happy to help with every question, which when you are jet lagged and disorientated is wonderful.
