"Passed it many times before when it was Roman Camp but never stayed, thought I always found the pink walls intriguing. Freshly refurbished and looking fantastic now as Thackray House. So much history and amazing grounds. Long soak in the jet bath and super comfy bed, exactly what you want after a long day of walking. Dinner at Strawberry Fields Bistro was a highlight. The seabream and steak were absolutely melting in your mouth, with a side of squash and creamy potatoes, yummy! Such a great atmosphere too, really good vibes all around. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, nothing was ever too much trouble. Would definitely recommend, delighted we decided to break the journey and stay over. Favourite spot, library for a nightcap!"

"An excellent stay overall. Brian and Valerie made us feel very welcome. The room was lovely, with an amazing view of the river. Really tasty and plentiful breakfast served both mornings. Brian even offered us a lift if we couldn’t get a taxi back from the Wedding we were attending. Fully recommend this charming guest house"

"An absolutely beautiful family home in a tranquil setting within easy walking distance of Callander town centre. Francesca provided the warmest of welcomes and patiently shared her extensive knowledge of local walks & eateries. Breakfasts were copious, with views to the garden and hills beyond, and there's a delightful, cosy lounge. All so well maintained & spotlessly clean. We can't wait to return!"

We all had a great nights sleep! Absolutely fantastic hosts! Nothing was to much trouble. We had our evening meal here and it was absolutely delicious. Best place to eat in Calender!! Breakfast individually catered for. Excellent gluten free and nut free options. Can't wait to stay again next year!! "

★★★ 8.5 (43 reviews)

"It is such a shame as it would have been a 5 however there were issues with the service. The food, comfort, entertainment were all great and cannot fault the food at all. The staff consisted of two young women and a young guy, who they themselves were lovely, polite and friendly however there was a consistent delay in being served at our table. We ordered a bottle of wine when we arrived and while looking at the menu. One of the girls came to get our food order and we explained that we were still waiting on our wine. 10 mins later, the guy said they had no 750ml bottles and had to get one and it was now being chilled so we asked for 2 individual bottles while we were waiting. Food came, individual bottles finished during eating our meal then we were sitting waiting to order desserts when the bottle of wine arrived. No thanks meal was over. We had to ask twice to get desserts as well. I wouldn't have said it was over busy for a Saturday night but was a shame how it dampened our night a bit. Would still return though."

"We had been previous visitors to The Potting Shed before it became Strawberry Fields, and while we loved The Potting Shed, the experience we had tonight was even better. Firstly, we dined al fresco; sitting outside under the canopy in the fading sunlight was delightful and set the tone for a relaxed yet special evening. Our waitress was the perfect hostess, knowledgeable, and very professional indeed. To start, we shared the flatbread with herbs, salad, and aioli. The bread was cooked to perfection and the herbs fresh from the garden added a fragrant, vibrant touch that elevated the whole dish. For mains, we both chose the Perthshire sirloin steak, which was cooked to perfection, presented in thinly carved slices and quite literally melted in the mouth. The sides of hispi cabbage and creamed potato, which we shared, were excellent in their own right, but it was the trio of sauces, the chimichurri, bearnaise, and a rich red wine jus that brought everything together. Each added depth and character, creating a combination that was truly to die for. The addition of crispy beef scattered across the top made the whole meal delicious. We finished by sharing a cheeseboard with coffee. The selection was generous, including Brie, cheddar, and blue cheese, accompanied by oatcakes and crackers. The curious pickled grapes, sharp with vinegar yet surprisingly delicious, and a chutney with a warming chilli kick, made it even more memorable. All in all, a real five-star quality dining experience. Excellent value for money for the quality and experience given. We will definitely be back."

"Chose Callander for a stop travelling south as I remembered it from happy childhood holidays caravanning by the river. Lovely wee town with nice shops, a decent pub (we had a hearty modestly-priced meal in The Crown), and an interesting main street. Ben A’an House is a good option for a night in the town, with spacious rooms and a lovely large and clean bathroom. The host Callum is friendly and attentive and provides a great breakfast. Loved the option to spin some vinyl in the breakfast room - neat idea!"

Crown Hotel ★★★
"The hotel is situated on the Main Street. Rooms are above the pub which means it can be a bit noisy if there is live music. But with ohropax it works. Room was really small and with one small window a bit dark - but we had everything we need. Bathroom had mould stain at the ceiling and the smell of chlorine was a bit heavy. In the room was also coffee and tea maker. Breakfast was just toast, jam, cornflakes or muesli, yoghurt and sweet stuff like wrapped muffins. Unfortunately no cheese, ham or fruits and vegetables. Food and beer in the pub was really good! And also the staff at the pub and the two ladies in charge of cleaning and breakfast room were really friendly."

"Just look at that view! My friend and I were greeted with that on arrival at The Crags Accessible Pod - owned and run by Callander Youth Project Trust. Located in Callander (Stirling), this self-catering accessible glamping pod is where we stayed for a week-long holiday in Scotland (2nd - 9th June 2023). As a wheelchair user, it can be very difficult to find 'accessible accommodation' that meets all of my needs, so this was a great find! Booking for the accessible pod can only be made over the phone. And before booking, the staff could answer any questions I had and emailed me additional photos of the facilities. Key features include: - Parking spot at the rear of the pod with ramp access to the pod itself. - Wide doorways and a level interior. - Sizeable wet room with shower/changing bench, adjustable-height washbasin, Clos-o-Mat toilet and a level-access shower. - Profile bed (single) in the main bedroom, with ceiling (y-shape) hoist running through to the bathroom. - Lounge area with seating and a well-stocked kitchenette, including a fridge, hob, microwave, instant boiling water tap and dishwasher. The sofa pulls out into a double sofa bed, and an additional zed-bed (fold-out) can be added to accommodate a maximum occupancy of 4. - Outdoor (covered) veranda with extra seating and table. It was very nice, clean, and had everything I needed, except for a wheeled shower chair, but that wasn’t a problem as I took my own. The staff was very friendly and helpful and were very accommodating to our needs and requests. It was like a home away from home (but with better views!) as everything was so easy for me to access. Overall, we had an amazing stay at The Crags Accessible Pod and would stay here again."
