Horizon Inn & Ocean View Lodge

One of the best experiences we have had in a long time. Our 204 (cottage) had the best view! The cottage was clean and everything worked properly in our kitchen. We brought 2 small dogs and a party of 4. We were very comfortable. Additionally, we were off the main beach ***** but it was perfect! Depending on how fast you walk its about 15-20 mins downhill. We will for sure be coming back!

Great stay! This is a family-run place within a couple of blocks of Ocean Avenue in Carmel, the "main drag" such as it is with shops and restaurants. However, with a little exploration, even the walk down a few blocks has some nice restaurants, bars and shops. I called ahead and asked for the best room--Room 120--with a very nice ocean view which made for fantastic wake-ups and sunset watching. The room has fireplace operated by a single switch for simple, confident operation. Breakfast is served every morning in a picnic basket by the door, with a daily variety of fruit plate, breakfast break and orange juice. There is also a nightly wine & cheese happy hour in the small lobby. Again, there is a small courtyard with lounges, firepit and hot tub that is also immaculately clean. It is also quiet, with quiet hours clearly posted, but the establishment does not attract a crazy crowd. Parking was plentiful, and there is easy access to US 1 and shopping and adventure up and down the coast. Great all-around choice.

The Horizon Inn is really hard to beat for the money. As others have said the Horizon Inn is clean, comfortable and is convenient to downtown Carmel. I found it relaxing to get away from Ocean Ave and the free onsite parking was a big plus. The breakfast baskets and nice Happy Hour on their deck are also very nice additions. Good restaurants are less than 5 minutes away and downtown Ocean Ave is an easy 8 minute walk. The Horizon is not a modern hotel, but the great staff, location and all the free amenities they offer make it our go-to place when visiting Carmel.

We had the most amazing stay at the Horizon Inn and it exceeded our expectations. Our suite was the perfect walking distance to downtown Carmel and we had a nice view of the ocean. We especially loved the daily happy hour with wines/cheese, the courtyard to enjoy the hot tub and fireplace and the daily breakfast basket was such a delight. We all looked forward to seeing what yummy croissants and items were included in the basket for the day! The customer service was also top notch and Rudy went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. With this being our first time in Carmel-by-the-sea we were thrilled with our stay and cannot wait to go back!
