"The B&B is close to the North Gate, so it was pretty easy to find. The owner even picked me up from Pingyao Ancient City Station late at night, which I really appreciated – it made my travel experience so much better. They carefully explained the locations of attractions and gave me a map. When I left, they even gave me some vinegar as a gift; they're incredibly warm and welcoming. Seriously, if you're coming to Pingyao, you should definitely stay here, haha! It's safe, clean, and the facilities are all there. For longer stays, they even proactively clean your room. The decor has a local flair too – who wouldn't want to try sleeping on a traditional heated 'kang' bed without any fuss? Thanks for everything, I'll definitely stay here again next time. Loved it, loved it!"

"We had a lovely time in our loft style room. The courtyard of the hotel is beautiful and preserved in the authentic ancient style. They offered free pickup and drop off to both train stations and gave us sliced apple and pear upon arriving as well as a free breakfast in the morning. The room warmed up nicely after turning on the AC. Super friendly hosts who were super receptive and helpful (they gave us a map of the ancient city and pointed out the main attractions) and also linked us up with a tour guide. Very reasonably priced on top of everything. Wonderful overall, highly recommend!"

"This hotel exceeded my expectations. It's super close to the bustling South Street. The room itself was clean, modern, and tidy. You can tell the owner pays attention to details; the toothbrushes, combs, and slippers were all of excellent quality. The toilet was smart, and there was also a fridge, a safe, and an air purifier. There's an extra soundproof door outside the room, so there was no noise from the old street in the morning at all. The courtyard outside the room is quaint and charming, perfect for taking some photos. The staff were all very welcoming. They offer pick-up and drop-off service to the high-speed train station, help with luggage, and are always ready to assist. Plus, there's an adorable large Corgi and a cute kitten!"

"My trip to Pingyao was pretty perfect this time, especially this hotel. It's definitely the most satisfying and best value-for-money stay I've had. First off, the hotel's location is excellent, right on Yamen Street inside the ancient city, very close to the core attraction, the County Government Office. Other places like Xie Tong Qing and Tong Xing Gong are also not far. Secondly, the hotel blends ancient charm with modern comfort. The overall style is that of an old-fashioned courtyard, with each room having its own small yard. Inside, however, it's modern hotel style. Although my room wasn't huge, it had all the essential facilities, and even featured a wet/dry separation bathroom. Lastly, the price was very reasonable, making it incredibly good value for money! PS: At checkout, the front desk lady even gave me some local Pingyao specialties, which was a lovely surprise!"

"First off, the service was absolutely amazing. The owner personally drove us, and because my car had a slight issue, he patiently offered advice without rushing us until everything was resolved, and only then did he take us to the ancient town. Secondly, the hotel room itself is 300 years old, a historical site, and it's simply decorated in an antique style. When we returned in the afternoon, they even brought us fruit, and breakfast included congee, milk, and steamed flower rolls that tasted just like homemade. After checking in, they provided a helpful explanation and a map, which was super useful, preventing us from getting lost or taking unnecessary detours, and ensuring we didn't miss the main attractions. All in all, highly recommended!"

"A truly excellent stay! This Chinese-style courtyard hotel has so much character. The owner was incredibly welcoming with a big smile. I really appreciated that all the towels were disposable, which made me feel much more at ease using them. The location is absolutely fantastic – just a few minutes' walk to the heart of the ancient city. In the evenings, it was wonderful to simply wander through the old streets and soak in Pingyao's unique local atmosphere. Parking is outside the ancient city, but the owner arranged a shuttle service, which was very convenient. Breakfast isn't provided, but there are tons of restaurants on the street with very reasonable prices."

"Stepping into the guesthouse, an antique charm immediately enveloped me. The red lanterns hanging high in the courtyard instantly brought forth the unique atmosphere of Pingyao Ancient City. The room was very clean and well-maintained, with comfortable bedding and complete facilities. The service was excellent. The small courtyard was also lovely, and not far from the main street. I accidentally left my jewelry in the room, and they proactively returned it to me, which I greatly appreciate. It was a wonderful experience, and I will definitely choose this place again if I have the chance to visit Pingyao."

"Awesome! 👍🏻 We arrived late by high-speed train, and the owner drove directly to the station to pick us up. All the restaurants in the ancient city were closed, so the owner lent us his electric tricycle to go eat outside the city. Riding that little vehicle through the ancient city at night was truly a special experience, haha. As for the room, it had everything we needed, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The large kang bed was quite unique, and even the mouthwash cups were disposable. Since it was the off-season, the owner even upgraded our room. Although the wallpaper was a bit peeling, it didn't affect our stay at all. Moreover, right outside the inn is the owner's own travel photography studio. I'm so glad I didn't book one of those trendy shops recommended online in advance. The photo shoot here was absolutely fantastic 💖. The makeup artist was very gentle and recommended suitable hairstyles and makeup based on my face shape. I loved the photos, and there was absolutely no pressure during the selection process – completely voluntary. A perfect ancient city experience, I'll definitely recommend it to my friends!"

Every brick and stone tells a story. Every street and alley narrates tales of the past and present. Kang Qian Ji Mansion is located at No. 33, Chang Xiang Street, within the ancient city of Pingyao. It was constructed in 1838 during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. Currently, it is a county-level cultural heritage site. It was originally the residence of Wang Jin-ting, the manager of the Pingyao Tiancheng Heng Bank’s Hankou branch. Wang Jin-ting (1859–1938), whose full name was Quan Yi and whose courtesy name was Jin-ting, was from the village of Xi Zhang Zhao in Pingyao. In his youth, he worked in the Tiancheng Heng Bank. After the bank’s collapse, he was recommended by Lu Rongting, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, to serve as an assistant manager at the Guangxi Bank. In 1924, Wang Jin-ting purchased the residence at No. 33 Chang Xiang Street in Pingyao’s ancient city, which had originally been a government residence. The courtyard’s floor plan features a pair of phoenixes spreading their wings, with the phoenix facing the grain market and its tail extending over the Helaoxian Bridge, symbolizing vitality and auspiciousness. The courtyard has weathered the passage of time, and with the changes in society, it was acquired by Kang Qian Ji Catering Company in 2025. We uphold the “Deren” principle of the Jin merchants, striving to restore and maintain the original state of the courtyard. The courtyard’s brick carvings of the麒麟 delivering children symbolize the owner’s dedication to preserving the Jin merchant culture and their best wishes for the guests. The wooden carvings of the phoenix and dragon support the pillars, showcasing the courtyard’s grandeur and elegance. Additionally, we have incorporated environmental and humanistic sciences to adopt a modern, luxurious style within the rooms, equipped with smart guest control systems, custom-made bathrooms, and ergonomically designed memory foam bedding and mattresses. The mansion has been transformed into a masterpiece that seamlessly blends ancient craftsmanship with modern technology. After a century of existence, the ancient courtyard has been reborn as the “Kang Qian Ji Mansion.” We respect the original appearance of the cultural relics, preserving the principle of “etiquette” and emphasizing rectitude, with a strong vertical axis and balanced symmetry in the architectural style.
