I recently visited the ancient city and stayed at a truly amazing hotel. I absolutely have to recommend it to everyone!
🌆 Perfect Location: The hotel is right at the north gate of the ancient city, allowing you to explore the city as soon as you step out of the hotel. Popular attractions and food stalls are just a few minutes' walk away. This location is simply unbeatable, saving you a ton of time and energy.
👦 Superb Service: When I arrived at the north gate, the handsome front desk staff was already waiting for me. They not only helped me carry my luggage all the way to my room, but were also incredibly attentive. During check-in, they meticulously explained the room's amenities, hand-painted a food map of the surrounding area, and recommended many local specialties, which immediately helped me find my way around.
🏠 The Room and Courtyard Have an Antique Charm: Upon entering the hotel courtyard, a vibrant, ancient atmosphere washes over you. Every detail, from greenery and rockery to flowing water, exudes elegance. The room was even more surprising, with its wooden furniture and carved window lattices, it felt like a trip back to ancient times. The bed was perfectly firm, and the linens were clean and comfortable, making for a truly peaceful stay.
👘 Special Jin Dynasty Costumes for Young Lady Photography: I have to mention the hotel's Jin Dynasty Costumes for Young Lady Photography service. The costumes the hostess meticulously prepared were truly exquisite, both in fabric and workmanship, far superior to those rented on the street. The hostess herself was beautiful and welcoming. Not only did she help me choose the perfect outfit, she also did my makeup and hair herself. She was incredibly helpful during the photoshoot, so I didn't have to worry about any awkward moments. The photos I took were incredibly well-liked on my social media.
I was absolutely delighted with my stay. From the service to the ambiance, every detail was truly captivating. If you're planning a trip to the ancient city, I highly recommend this hotel; I'm sure you'll love it too!

LLukasFantastic value for money. I really liked the room. Shower and bathroom were great. Bed was comfy. The hotel is in a quiet street a little bit outside of the main streets which for me was a big plus. It's not too far away and way quieter. The owner/husband picked me up and dropped me off at the north gate. They have a fridge where you can pay for drinks per qr code.
2 water bottles a day for free in the room.
The wife gave me a map with explanations and an itinerary idea. Super nice!
Improvement ideas:
- Water refill from a big jug to safe on plastic
- English explanation on how to book the Pingyao 3 day ticket on WeChat (I figured it out myself but a small guide would be cool)
- some way to close blinds so people can't look in without having to shut off all daylight.
Would recommend the place and would book again without looking for anything else.

GGuest UserWe had a wonderful one-night stay at Leisure Hotel Pingyao. The service was excellent—friendly and attentive staff even picked us up from the city wall, which made getting to the hotel super convenient. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and both meals were absolutely scrumptious! The location is ideal too—just off the main crowded streets, so it's peaceful but still close to everything.
The only minor issue we had was with the air conditioning, which was a bit on the warm side. Even though the outside temperature was in the low tens (Celsius), we prefer sleeping in cooler conditions and had some trouble adjusting the room temperature. That aside, our stay was memorable and very comfortable overall. Highly recommend you to stay at their accommodation!

AAnonymous UserWe had a great stay at the hotel, the room was as shown in the photos. The room was well equipped and very comfortable. It was a very relaxing environment. The hotel is in a historical building and has beautiful courtyard spaces which were nice to sit and read a book in. It's lovely and quiet there, we liked being further away from the town centre for the peace. However it does mean it's a 15min walk to the nearest restaurants and it is very dark and empty in the alleyways nearby at night. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay!

GGuest UserWe stayed at thos lovely hotel. Lovingly restored by the current owner Mr Wang. He is the 6th generation owner of the property.
Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it
And it does feel and look like a traditional house.
You feel you are going back in time.
Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs.
He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city.
Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions.
Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him.
Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm.
On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour.
Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class.
The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved
The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk.
The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

JJeffery.truongThe ancient city Pingyao and the Yundingxuan hotel blowed our mind. The hotel provide free pickup from the train station. We took the high speed train arrived at Pingyaocheng station which is around 15 minutes away from the ancient city. When you enter the city wall gate, you will be amazed of the narrow streets and cobblestone road. Picked Yundingxuan hotel because it was closed to the North gate so
If the taxi was to dropped us off it’ll be a short walk but the driver dropped us off near the hotel because cars are not allowed within the main streets.
The hotel is closed to 200 years old and have characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I was born in Vietnam,
With roots to China but raised up in the US since I was 7 years old. I’ve seen Chinese movies but nothing will prepare you to the hotel and the ancient city. I was surprised how big the hotel complex was. All the staff were very nice, the main host spoke English, and the breakfasts were traditional Chinese breakfast. We stayed two nights and we felt safe throughout our visit. My wife and daughter appreciated the three hotel cats and all the felines throughout the city.
I’m sure the other hotels are fantastic and will give your a unique experience but I can vouch for Yundingxuan. Just be prepared to get out your comfort zone but be amazed by the visual and taste of Pingyao Ancient City.

PPanPivoI must highly recommend this wonderful hotel in the historic centre of Pingyao. The hotel is really authentic, well equipped, the room was beautiful and I didn't miss anything during my stay. The owner is very nice and helpful, he was able to help me with everything. The front desk is guarded by a small, beautiful dog who gives you a proper greeting. Everything is a short walk from the hotel yet it is in a quiet area where you won't be disturbed. Not choosing this hotel for my stay would be a big mistake. Thank you very much

Tento nádherný hotel v historickém centru města Pingyao musím vřele doporučit. Hotel je opravdu autentický, dobře vybavený, pokoj byl krásný a během pobytu mi nic nechybělo. Majitel je velmi milý a ochotný, se vším mi dokázal pomoci. Recepci hlídá malý, krásný pejsek, který vás náležitě přivítá. Vše je kousek od hotelu a přitom je v klidné oblasti, kde vás nebude nikdo rušit. Nevybrat si tento hotel pro svůj pobyt by byla velká chyba. Moc děkuji

GGuest UserI went there on the second day of the ***** New Year. Hotels and B&Bs in the scenic area were too expensive. I booked the boss’ B&B online. It was pretty good, but the location was a bit out of the way. I booked a double bed room with my brother, and the boss gave me an extra bed. Quilt
