On the third day, I asked for cleaning and it was cleaned. The sign on the door was useless and I had to go to the bar to remind me. Everything else is fine. This was a great place to stay for our 3 nights in Datong. It's like condo rooms in a high rise. We had a huge room, all very clean and new. There was a view towards the light show at Datong city walls. The host was very friendly, she taught me how to get the bus to the Yungang Grottoes. Cross the main road outside and take bus no.17 to the end of the line at a station. From there bus no 3 will take you to the entrance of Yungang Grottoes, it is easy and super cheap. There was no English spoken here, but the translation app covers that problem. Great value for money, we highly recommend this place.

This hotel is really really beautiful - maybe even more than the photos show. Even though the style is traditional, everything inside the room is new, and there's even an elevator to take up bags. The location is amazing too, inside the old city wall, and I walked everywhere except the out of town attractions I visited. I think anywhere you stay in Datong you might have some communication challenges if you don't speak Chinese, but the owner here was very helpful once I put wechat on my phone to be able to talk with translation help, and he was able to arrange a last minute taxi out to the hanging temple after I had given up trying to get one. However, even though he was very helpful, he wasn't always around, and checking in was a bit difficult because there was nobody at the desk. I think this is only a problem if you don't speak Chinese though. Unfortunately, the wifi didn't always reach to my room on the 3rd floor well, and I could only get a trickle of hot water out of the shower. Overall though, I was super happy with this place and would recommend it!
