Travelodge Carlisle M6
"I had a lovely visit to this Travelodge, over night stay while travelling to Scotland. Easy access to the M6 motorway. The lady on reception was brilliant! Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Room was clean and tidy with plenty of room, comfy bed great nights sleep. Would highly recommend 5⭐️."
Augill Castle
"What a fabulously quirky, welcoming place this is. Tucked away along a quiet country lane just south of the A66 near Brough, Augill Castle Is a charming folly with a highly entertaining history. Set in beautiful gardens with a delightful terrace that would be perfect for summer days. The food was generous and all that you would expect of an afternoon tea. The service was friendly, informal and relaxed. Nothing was hurried and we were able to take as much time as we wanted. The greeting at the entrance to the drive announced that this would be "unlike anywhere you have ever stayed before ". I agree!"
Redstones Hotel
"We stayed here by chance. The original plan was to camp, but a forecast storm suggested a change of plans. The Redstones was right where we wanted to be, had a room on the same night and was a decent price. Everything looked good. Arriving at the hotel we were impressed by the quality of the finish (everything looking brand new -the hotel has been open almost a year). The bedroom was really comfortable and the bathroom spacious. Breakfast (cooked to order) was superb with good quality sausages, bacon, black pudding and haggis. Good coffee too. Would definitely recommend this place as a base for walking etc in this area. The building is an old youth hotel and still has a kit drying room."
New Crown Inn
"Booked our room to stay after spending the day in aqu sauna in centre parts Great value for money lovely staff great guiness room clean comfortable spacious. Very warm welcome in the bar food menu good and also an excellent breakfast in the morning .Highly recommend and have already booked again for September"
The King's Head
"Booked 2 rooms at the Kings Head as we were attending a wedding nearby. We needed to be at the wedding for midday and arrived at the Kings Head at around 11am. We asked if we could just leave our bags as we wouldn’t be back until very late. We were informed that one of the rooms was ready and we could have the keys, then we were told the other was ready so we were really pleased that they were so accommodating. On check-out we were caught up in conversation with the guy checking us out and so were not concentrating on what we were being charged. On checking our credit card bill on return we found that we had been overcharged so I contacted the venue and we were informed that because we checked in early they charge £25 per room. At no point was this charge mentioned and we did not request this service. Charlotte said that she had had to bring in staff early to get the rooms ready, I pointed out that we had not requested this service or let them know that we would be arriving early so why would they have brought staff in early, we just thought they were being accommodating as the rooms were ready. To date I have had no response, apology or refund for this hidden overcharge. Totally spoilt the stay."
Stockwell Hall Cottage
High Greenside Farmhouse B&B
"The property is in a rural location, right at the end of a rural track, it’s wonderfully quiet and surrounded by pretty views and walks. Angela was friendly and breakfast was great. For evening meals we walked to the Black Swan (there is also the Kings Head but they were very busy) and the food there was excellent, you need a torch for the walk home ;) The photo was the view from our room."
Charming, cosy cottage. Family and dog friendly.
