"Stayed two nights (booked by the tour company). I was supposed to stay a third night but insisted on leaving. The hotel offers a beautiful view, but that’s where the positives end. The company is building a new hotel in Gondar, and this property is in a state of total neglect. The elevators haven’t worked for months, and my room was on the third floor. Considering all the issues (see below) and the non-functioning phones, I had to go up and down the stairs tens of times. In the first room I was assigned, the phone didn’t work and there was only one working power socket (all the others were dead). It took 30 minutes to convince the front desk to give me another room, even though the hotel was nearly empty. The second room had a large gap between the door and the jamb, requiring two turns of the keys to lock. The phone initially worked, but stopped later. The mini-fridge didn’t work. There was no AC, ceiling fan, or window screens. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The shower had good water pressure, but the water wasn’t very hot and drained very slowly. During the second night, there was a power outage, which also cut off the water supply. After 2.5 hours, I walked down three flights in my pajamas, and they finally turned on the generator. The next morning, the power went out again, and I was told they had run out of fuel. Later in the afternoon, there was another power and water outage. The staff refused to turn on the generator and ignored the few guests. At that point, I contacted the tour company and demanded to be moved to another hotel. Service in the restaurant was extremely slow, even though I was often the only guest. Pancakes for breakfast took over 30 minutes. Most staff, particularly in the restaurant, speak minimal or no English. The manager explained that this was due to high staff turnover and recruitment issues. Wi‑Fi was acceptable when the power was on. Avoid this place."

"The hotel is located on a hilltop, with the entire city at your fingertips. We checked in on January 6th, the night before Christmas. We were told there was caroling throughout the city all night long; I sleep with earplugs and didn't hear it. But when we emerged onto the platform at dawn, we were amazed at how Ethiopians celebrate Christmas: music and singing can be heard everywhere. All of Gondar below us was in jubilation, and we shared the feeling. Our stay at the hotel was comfortable, and the rooms are attractively decorated with African motifs. Unfortunately, there's no kettle in the room, but I've never been turned away when I've approached the restaurant with a thermos asking for boiling water. A big thank you to the hotel staff for their hospitality and excellent service."

"Very clean and comfortable room with a huge balcony. The staff was very helpful, a very good contact with staff. Especially the young man at the reception - Solomon - was very supportive and helpful. Also an owner was always ready to help. The room was well equiped and spacious. Breakfast was very good - good service, tasty, a la carte. Good location and secure place."
