Horrible experience dealing with Trip.com and this Hotel. Just pray that your flight isn't delayed and you arrive past your scheduled check-in time because they close and there is no way to get in. We waited outside for 30 mins, ringing the bell. We call Trip.com and they were useless. We had to book another hotel and pay out of pocket so that we wouldn't be stranded on the streets of Guatemala City late at night. When we finally got a call back from Trip.com they said that the hotel refused to refund us our money and they said that they waited for us all night, which was an absolute lie.

I just checked out today after two nights. Once you are inside the house is spacious, both the common areas and the room. It is an elegant old house lovingly looked after. It is clean and the breakfast is good. I don’t know the other areas of the city but there seems to be a consensus that wherever you stay in Guatemala City you should not walk alone after dark. I have found it very straight forward to walk to the central square, the market and various shops. Well recommended. I am a retired 63 years old from UK travelling solo.

This was our first visit to Guatemala. Everyone at the Airbnb was super nice and Casa Carmel was truly a beautiful place to stay. We didn’t rent a car and it was an easy walk to town to shop and eat some good food and do some local sightseeing. Would definitely stay here again.

Casa Carmel was a perfect place to start and end our Guatemalan adventures. The Casa is absolutely beautiful with all original architectural details. Our first night there we were so tired but I asked my husband to keep the light on for a bit so we could admire the hand carved ceilings. Stunning. We loved sitting out in the beautiful courtyard with a cup of coffee. Sophie and her husband Oscar were both incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. We felt very well taken care of. It is the sort of place you still think about days after you leave. Hope to return.

This is a great small B&B in central Guatemala City. Easy walking distance of Cathedral and Central Market. The hotel and rooms are lovely with a beautiful garden. After a good sleep, a very nice breakfast. But the best part was the personalized service. Waiting for us at the airport. Gave a short tour of the city core to get our bearings. Pointed out special buildings. Then answered all questions we had about the area. At breakfast, had a wonderful discussion with host on life in Guatemala. This was a special part of our trip.

Home away from home. It was like visiting your cousin or aunt in your hometown after staying abroad for a long time. It was my first time, indeed, but I felt like I was coming home to this enchanting country. Traveling during this pandemic is definitely not as easy as before and Casa Carmel Hotel made sure that my stay in Guatemala would be just amazing! To Sophie, the owner, and the two kind señoras who took care of me, muchas gracias desde el fondo de mi corazón! I booked a room but I got the whole villa since tourist arrivals in Guatemala this pandemic is still in its lowest. Sophie welcomed me personally, made sure everything was fine, helped me book my antigen test in a clinic, and prepared a nice, healthy and very guatemalteco breakfast. Will definitely stay in this hotel again once I get back to Guatemala…soon? Pros: it’s in the heart of Guatemalan historic center in Zona 1 ♥️
