Shuzenji Onsen Katsuragawa ★★★★
"The location is absolutely fantastic! Built right along the Katsura River, you can open your window to the soothing sound of the river and lush greenery. It's only a 3-minute walk to Shuzenji Temple, and a morning stroll along the riverbank is incredibly relaxing. The Japanese experience feels so authentic. Dinner was a kaiseki meal, with sea bream chazuke and grilled wagyu that were both fresh and exquisite. The room was a traditional Japanese-style room, and the tatami mats were clean and soft."
Arai Ryokan ★★★★
"The hotel opened in 1872 and boasts a superb location and ambiance. I stayed in a Flower Suite, right next to the Bamboo Path and Katsura Bridge, with unparalleled views from the window. The hotel's dining and service were both excellent. The room facilities have also been renovated and are in very good condition. No wonder it has been a 25-year-old "Top 100 Hotels" list."
Hotel Takitei ★★★★
"The location is confusing; when you enter the address, it shows a room on the 4th floor near the back entrance. The female staff member at the 1st-floor front desk was incredibly rude during check-in. She didn't speak any English, only talked about herself, and seemed tired, ignoring people and looking like she had no intention of working. Above all, the hotel is extremely outdated. They boasted grandiose descriptions of the 2nd to 4th floors, calling them banquet halls and amenities, but they are incredibly cramped, and there is absolutely nothing to enjoy. It makes me wonder if it is worth paying money to come to a place like this. You should go to a different hotel instead. Since Shuzenji Onsen is small anyway, you won't have any issues if you go to another hotel. I also didn't like the tatami room; they gave me a low-floor room on the 5th floor with a trashy roof view. When I first entered the room, the door was closed, but there were fallen leaves on the floor. It was unpleasant, and I considered complaining, but I held back because I was afraid I would just spit in their face. It was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at."
Yukairo Kikuya ★★★★
"The room had a private hot spring, the facilities were new, and the environment was beautiful. We could walk to nearby attractions. The dinner selection was good, and the hotel itself was quite large with a charming corridor. It's set in a big private garden, which is great for photos!"
Laforet Shuzenji Sanshisuimei ★★★★★
"Private Onsen inside the room is amazing."
Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji ★★★★★
"The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. The environment was very beautiful and pleasant. The front desk staff could communicate fluently in English, explaining every step and detail very clearly. Their service attitude was excellent."
LiVEMAX RESORT AMAGIYUGASHIMA ★★★
"This is an excellent resort with perfect location for an immersive Japanese Ryokan experience. The Nepali person at reception was very friendly and helpful. Most of the staff are friendly. The Onsen was amazing with cave Onsen and outdoor Onsen. Breakfast was very good with many choices."
Tatsuta Ryokan ★★★★
"There are two characteristics of the hotel, kawadoka cuisine and four open-air private hot springs. Let's talk about kawadoka cuisine first. The whole cuisine is very rich. The service staff will prepare it for you in advance at the time you make an appointment. You can enjoy the scenery while eating the cuisine. As for the hot springs, you can check whether the hot springs are in use through the website, which is very convenient. This time I only soaked in two due to time constraints. I will try the other two next time. The overall service is also very good. When you leave the hotel, the hotel will send you to a station by bus. Just confirm the route with the hotel in advance."
Irori No Yado Sankichi ★★★
"This will likely be our favourite stay of our entire trip! It felt like the most warm homely and welcoming step back into a Japan that is rapidly disappearing. The food is sublime, effectively a 14 course tasting menu of authentic local food, sat on tatami mats with the wood fires next to you, dressed in a lovely Yukata provided by the ryokan! I cannot recommend this stay enough, the mountains around are gorgeous. We got off the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka at Mishima station and rented a car for the day to see Mt Fuji and Izu peninsula which all worked out great!"
