MRS Chryssana Beach Hotel

MRS Chryssana Beach Hotel ★★★

📍 Chania, Kolimvari

"This hotel is located in a quiet area, not far from the small town of Kolymvari. This guarantees peace and quiet, away from the tourist bustle. The location is ideal for exploring western Crete. Buses to Chania run approximately every 25 minutes – the fare to Chania is €3.60. You can relax and unwind here. The rooms are cleaned daily, the staff is very helpful, and the food is delicious. The pool is nice, with a depth of up to 2.40 meters for those who enjoy swimming. There are few sunbeds by the pool, but since it's a small hotel, there was never a shortage of them. The pool bar is open until 11:00 PM. I recommend it!"

"Absolutely top-notch staff service! The dining was also superb, and the views were incredibly stunning. The only issue was that the elevator in the lobby frequently malfunctioned, getting stuck and not opening its doors unless someone pressed the button from the outside. As for hardware, the power outlets on the walls in the room were a bit loose. Other hardware was fine."

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas ★★★★

📍 Kolimvariou, Spilia

"We had a lovely relaxing week here as a family of 4 with 2 adult children. We had intended to use the sofa bed in the lounge but they had put an extra bed in the single room for us. It was a bit of a squeeze but they only used the room for sleeping. We found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. We had an issue with our villa pool as it wasn’t filtering but they were quick to resolve the problem. The breakfast was a nice bonus and we were addicted to the Greek yoghurt and honey! There was maid service and pool maintenance every other day with fresh towels provided. We stayed in Villa Nicholas which was up a very steep hill so wouldn’t be suitable for elderly/infirm. We chose not to hire a car but it was only €8 to Kolymvari where there was a nice assortment of bars and restaurants on the seafront. We ate at the hotel and also the 2 other local restaurants in Spilia too. We also visited Chania old town one night which was very lively and took a boat trip to Balis beach from Kissamos. Reception staff were helpful in booking taxis. The only reason I dropped a star was the pool area of the villa had some weeds in the paving which led to the villa looking a little unkempt. The villa next door overlooks the pool area so not very private but we were lucky as there was no-one staying there for the first few days of our holiday. Crete was lovely and we would return"

Aphea Village ★★★

📍 Kolimvárion, Kolymvari

"I have never seen a hotel like this. The hotel is dirty and poorly maintained. We left the hotel after one night because it disgusted us so much. The shower head sprayed onto the electricity as soon as we turned it on. The water in the hotel is not drinkable. The rooms are old and very damaged and the beds are not comfortable. I do not recommend this hotel unless you want to spend your money to not be able to sleep at night and have a vacation that is not relaxing."

"Next time I go, I think I'll plan to stay a little longer. It was so comfortable and nice that I almost regretted my short stay. The pool was much longer and larger than it appears in the photos, and I was impressed by the design, which allowed everyone in the room to enjoy the pool close to home."

"This was our second visit to Cavo Spada and we were made to feel as welcome as our first stay. Front desk and senior management are always very helpful and facilitated a room request for us. The Hotel Manager and Restaurant Manager, again - very welcoming. The hotel is on low levels so feels spacious and open. It is not in the centre of a resort but a semi short walk to local sandy beach at Kolymbari. Main buffet restaurant covers a wide range of foods for all preferences and lots of choices for all meals. Always kept topped us and warm. Lovely set of five very well behaved and clean ginger kittens came to play with those interested in stroking them. We ate lunch at Sealine three times during our stay, service and food all excellent. Pool bar team are amazing, helpful and work so hard. King prawn saganaki was very good. We also ate at the Azzuro restaurant, great very luxurious food. Quite rich so go with an empty stomach. Main bar has some great characters and again excellent service. We watched the England World Cup games in the main bar and the atmosphere was pleasantly competitive, we were in the minority but all nationalities were great fun. The room was a good size and cleaned daily. Mini bar - not included in all-inclusive, but no big deal as can get everything from the bars. Love this hotel and glad we found it, already booked to come back next year!"

"I stayed here in September for 4 days with my partner and my 1.5 year old baby. Studio equipped with everything, they gave us a triple (even though the baby slept with us), small but functional kitchen, nice big pool! Friendly and helpful staff. All at a great price! Recommended!"

MRS Chryssana Beach Hotel ★★★
"Just back from Mrs Chrysannas. The hotel was very pretty and spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As we arrived late 1am, there was no-one to meet us, but our key and directions were left at the front door and we checked in fully the next day. The room was spacious, had a good sized balcony with sea view, but was in the shade all day and the room lacked storage for our clothes having just a wardrobe and only enough room in the drawers for underwear, so we lived out of our cases. The pool area was lovely but not so of you have children, as nothing for them except a shallow pool. The pool did not open until 10.30 so if you want an early morning swim you will be disappointed and closed at 7.30 for our 1st week but got earlier and earlier during our stay until it was closing at 6. This hotel advertises as quiet and tranquil and it was, but was lacking in atmosphere and could have done with some Cretan music at the bar and in the background at the restaurant area to remind us of where we were staying! The food. Well it was a bit hit and miss for us. Staying all inclusive we had a buffet for the meals. Breakfast was good with a wide selection of cooked or continental. but the cooked was cold by the time we reached the table with it. Lunch and dinner were uninspiring and we were offered some very fatty pork on at least 4 occasions. There was a lack of vegetables at the evening meal - thank goodness for the greek salad which I ate a lot of! Other reviews mentioned a bbq at the pool area during the day but all we were offered was sandwiches and cake. We ate out several times to get a more greek experience. The area was quiet, the village was small and a bit out of the way but the bus to Chania was frequent and cheap. Loved Chania!. Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt it could have been better"

Avra Imperial Hotel ★★★★★
"We stayed in a deluxe suite with a pool for 7 days. The room was somewhat run-down and felt quite old, unlike the photos online. Cleanliness was also subpar, likely due to the room's age. For example, there was mold in the grout between the bathroom sink and surrounding tiles, and the floor was cracked and always felt dirty. The sofa was white but very dirty, with faded colors and grime. The room's soundproofing was poor; we could hear conversations from upstairs in the bathroom. Furthermore, although the hotel advertised an all-inclusive package, they were very strict about bottled water and meal times. Each person was only allowed one bottle of water at a time, and it wasn't delivered; we had to get it ourselves from the bar. We were rushed around for meals if it was even slightly late, and the staff became quite rude. We had a small baby traveling with us, and although we requested a crib during booking and reminded the hotel via WhatsApp, there was no crib in the room. We waited over an hour after check-in before an extra crib was provided, disrupting the baby's sleep. In short, our experience with the hotel was subpar; the facilities, cleanliness, and service were not worth it."

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas ★★★★
"The pool area is so lovely, with citrus trees and other beautiful foliage against a backdrop of the pink stone buildings of the hotel. We booked a family room made up of two interconnecting bedrooms. Ours was non- renovated and bathrooms probably show their age a little but we really liked it; high ceilings, grand wooden doors and shutters, along with stone borders to the windows and doors. Lots of character and it was great value. We’d stay here again for the pool courtyard alone — it’s very well done."

"Very nice hotel, perfect pool access suite. Luxury family-friendly hotel with a fantastic kids' club team! The children's water playground is fantastic. Very large and beautiful pool! The staff is very friendly! A little something for my daughter's 3rd birthday! The all-inclusive is very good! With the added bonus of à la carte dinners 👌 I highly recommend this hotel! We stayed 6 nights. Everything was perfect!"

"We loved the place, the food was excellent, the room good size, close to the beach, clean and pleasant atmosphere. There is a monastery called the Mother of God Odigitria Gonia close to the hotel very worth visiting.Would like to urge anyone who is visiting to feed and give some water to the homeless cats there, some of those poor creatures have been injured by humans and need castration, they live on the right when you leave the hotel."

Alonia Hotel Apartments ★★★
"We returned to Alonia after a seven-year interval and it was just as lovely as before. The beds are very comfortable. The firm mattresses seemed new. The beds were very large, being made of two singles pushed together. We had AC as well as a fan so we were comfortable all through the exceptionally hot weather (32°). The pool was great and the food from the bar was very tasty and generous. The WiFi was good. The staff treated us like old friends and were attentive and helpful. We will certainly stay here again."
