"The Metro Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles has an excellent location, nestled between Chinatown and Olvera Street. You can explore both areas on foot, and it's super convenient for getting around with the nearby subway station. The rooms are clean and tidy, the service is thoughtful, and the facilities are complete. It offers great value for money and is definitely my top choice for staying in the city center."

"The staff were nice and accommodating. They helped us extend our stay without any problems and Jorge helped us arrange our shuttle going to the airport. They have a restaurant and a garden. It is near the metro (about 3 blocks from Historic Broadway and 4 blocks from ) Civic Center/Grand Park) which makes it accessible if you’ll travel without a car. It is also near 7-eleven and Japanese supermarket. The room is spacious and the cleaning staff were helpful in maintaining the room’s cleanliness."

"This hotel is in a great location in Downtown LA. From LAX, I took the FlyAway bus ($12.75) and then two subway stops ($1.75, flat fare) to Pershing Square, and it was just across the street. There's a paid outdoor parking lot opposite the hotel (I don't recommend renting a car in LA – traffic can be bad, parking is expensive, and California gas prices are high, around $2/liter. Public transport is only $1.75 per ride, with a $5 daily cap, and a $20 refill on a Tap Card is usually enough to get around LA). Safety-wise, I'd say it's decent. It's in a transitional area between the more dangerous Skid Row and the safer Financial District in DTLA. I'd advise against coming back too late or wandering around at night. If you do come back late, it's best to take an Uber. If you're walking, try not to stare at the homeless, and don't engage if they talk to you. The hotel has a live front desk and security. You need to use your key card to enter after 6 PM and also to use the elevator. It feels very safe during the day, so you can confidently go out and explore. Theft and robbery aren't as prevalent in the US as some might think; you'll see plenty of people playing on their phones while waiting at traffic lights, and people carry their backpacks normally. The hotel rooms, while not huge, have distinctive lighting. There's a tablet by the bed that allows you to activate a 'sleep mode' with one tap, and you can control the lights and TV channels through it, which is very cozy and comfortable. However, there's no kettle for hot water. For someone like me who likes hot drinks, you can go to the bar on the first floor and ask the staff for hot water for free. They also have various free tea bags. Coffee and alcoholic drinks are extra, though. If you don't feel like going out at night, ordering a drink and chatting with an American is a great way to experience the nightlife – Americans are really good conversationalists!"

"The room is large and clean. In Chinatown, the price is high, the facilities are complete, and the front desk staff is very communicative. The hygienist came to Los Angeles from Guangzhou 18 years ago. She enthusiastically helped introduce the situation and allowed us to view and choose a house. The hotel environment is also good, and the breakfast is OK. Western food in American hotels is just like this, and it is far inferior to the buffets in good hotels in China."

"It's generally clean, but the toilet and shower are a bit old and small. The room as a whole is dimly lit. You need to bring your own toothbrush. It's close to the Metro Chinatown station, making it easily accessible. It's also close to Dodger Stadium, and there are panels of players displayed in the hotel. They held my luggage for me, and when I gave them a tip, they said ”It's okay,” which showed they were very kind."

"This hotel is only 300 meters from the subway's B exit, making it incredibly convenient for getting around. Though small, it's exceptionally clean, which isn't surprising given it's Japanese-owned – they really prioritize hygiene. The staff are also very warm and welcoming. A huge bonus is the microwave and kettle; it was so handy to buy udon noodles from the supermarket and heat them up, which is perfect for a Chinese palate. For dining, Little Tokyo and Central Market are nearby. You're also close to the Museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Broadway Building. Plus, Hollywood Walk of Fame and Santa Monica Beach are a direct subway ride away."

"The room was nice and offered a good view of the Sphere. We also caught a show in the evening. This hotel doesn't have a casino, so you'll need to go to other hotels for that. The facilities are very new, and you need a key card to go up to the rooms, indicating strict management."

"The stay at the Biltmore was about convenience and history. Ok, and a great nightly rate. There is much to appreciate about old historic hotels where you do sacrifice some modern and expected hotel conveniences for the experience of it all. I wanted to stay there at least once so that is an objective achieved. That said, there is a lot of work that can be done to bring bathrooms up to date including paint touch ups and modern fixtures. It was not dirty, it just felt a bit run down especially compared to the bedroom. Otherwise no problems at all and would recommend to anyone traveling in downtown Los Angeles. It is super convenient and if you appreciate history, you will enjoy the experience."

"The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable, so I slept well. It's just a few minutes' walk from Pershing Square Station, and near the subway station, there's a Grand Central Market selling all sorts of food. The Angels Flight Railway is located between the subway station and the Grand Central Market. I specifically asked the front desk about the destination fee, which is $35 per day and includes some perks (as shown in pictures 8 and 9). There are also additional taxes. You can check out online in advance to confirm the total taxes, which are shown in picture 10. Honestly, the taxes seemed a bit excessive! Finally, I recommend a restaurant called Perch, a French-American fusion place, about a ten-minute walk away. This restaurant seems to be quite famous and popular, so it's best to make a reservation during peak hours. We stumbled in at 10 PM that night, and there weren't many people so we didn't have to queue. We ordered two steaks, and both were good. The absolute best part was that there was no mandatory tip; when paying, they asked 'tip or no tip'. It felt awkward not to leave anything, so we ended up giving $5. Compared to other restaurants with a 15% tip, this was truly reasonable!"

YYC008Here's why we gave the experience 3 stars; First of all, when we booked the hotel, neither Trip.com nor The Aster, Los Angeles, mentioned anything about the rooftop being closed on the dates we booked. On May 13 and May 14, we stayed in room 3 0 6. The hotel pictures showed and bragged about having a rooftop and plenty of pics of people there, and nowhere was revealed anywhere on their website or Trip.com that would not be available on those dates. When we reached out to Trip.com, they pretty much said that the rooftop amenities weren't listed as part of our package. Really Trip.com? You have to list the rooftop as the amenity... Got it. That was so lame a response. Everyone knows people book due to the pictures, and this was a seriously lame response from the Trip.com customer support personnel. We decided to save our opinion for this review. The Aster had nice people, but it's hard to believe the availability missing on their website is a detail they would miss. Their hotel has impeccable detail and design. One can only surmise they conveniently left out the information because people would obviously not book there and go somewhere else. I told the front receptionist this as we were checking in. She mentioned, well, it said it on *******. But we didn't book through *******, we booked through Trip.com. And those specific details were not evident. After July 1st the Government is getting stricter on transparency with hotels having to mention things so we missed this window, but we're happy to hold hotels like The Aster accountable:-) Also, on Wednesday, we checked out, and they had a fire alarm drill test that lasted about 10 minutes. They forgot to mention another minor ”inconvenience” when we booked on their website. It was at 10 am. It wasn't so bad, but to state the obvious, they left out the ability for customers to decide by not making that information transparent during the booking process. It's not like the fire department or tech people didn't schedule that in advance. 1. If you book through Trip.com, please make sure you specify, call their customer support, and get it in writing. The clickbait and pictures seem shady and sketchy and reflect a lack of credibility in the process. 2. Trip.com asked which room we wanted to be in. When we picked the room, we picked the city-view balcony. But we got put in the poolside view instead. It wasn't bad, but that was missing in the booking details that Trip.com sent to The Aster. My fiance ended up being okay with the poolside view, but it should have been in the booking details via Trip.com. So please, please make sure you watch this if you book through them and call the hotel in advance. Lastly, the decor, valet, and, in general, the service people were very nice and thoughtful. We would give them 5 stars.

AAL71The location is okay, but it's actually quite a walk from 3rd Street and also the beach. The room was pretty small for US standards, and the decor was a bit rococo. Plus, there were unmentioned extra charges (on top of taxes, occupancy fees + ridiculously expensive parking) and they couldn't even provide me with an accurate invoice... Honestly, you can probably find something better for this price in Santa Monica.

GGuest UserMy wife and I visited Catalina Island for our 28th anniversary — our first time back since before we were married in 1997. We chose the Catalina Canyon Inn specifically for the pool, jacuzzi, on-site restaurant, and shuttle service. Their website is very nice and seemed like a perfect match for the occasion. Unfortunately, very little matched what was advertised. Shuttle: The shuttle was not waiting at the Catalina Express port when we arrived on the last ferry Saturday evening which was unexpected. Four of us were left waiting in the dark for about 20 minutes until the other couple called the hotel. The driver was friendly and apologized, but this set the tone for the weekend. The shuttle was consistently unreliable throughout our stay. They tell you to call the driver directly, but he often didn't answer. You'd end up having to call the hotel instead, and the shuttle only seemed to come after someone went inside and told the front desk in person. At one point we waited 45 minutes. Some guests got frustrated and just decided to walk, but the hotel sits at the top of a steep hill — not a realistic option, especially for older guests like us. Their website suggests the shuttle runs regularly, but that was far from our experience. Restaurant: We arrived at the restaurant at 7:30 PM Saturday and were turned away, even though their website says they're open until 8:00 PM. We had to rush down the hill to find dinner to-go in town before the shuttle stopped running at 8:45. It was a shame we didn't even have time to stay and eat on our anniversary or face having to trek up that hill. The next morning I mentioned this to the restaurant owner, who insisted they closed at 8:00 and that she was there. She then told us the restaurant closes at 2:00 PM on Sundays — so dinner there that night wasn't an option either. She was very friendly though I must say. On Monday we finally had breakfast before checkout. The food was mediocre and didn't match the glowing reviews at all. The prices were also odd — $12 for mozzarella sticks, $20 for nachos, but only $11 for pulled pork sliders, which you'd expect to be the pricier item. The pricing just didn't add up. While we were there, another couple was turned away at 1:30 PM because the restaurant closes from 2–4 on Mondays. We could feel their frustration. Jacuzzi: The jacuzzi we were looking forward to was covered up and converted into a gazebo with chairs. At first we couldn't find it but yea. No mention of this on the website. Room issues: The soap dispenser in the shower was empty. The front desk told us we can mention it to housekeeping, who didn't come until after 5:00 PM. We got the soap and a couple fresh towels. The towels themselves were thin and didn't dry well overnight so fresh ones were sorely needed to get at least one shower in with soap before we had to leave the next day. The TV didn't work at all, and the microwave was unplugged — though I was able to fix that myself. The hotel also doesn't offer complimentary coffee, which is standard at most hotels we've stayed at for half the price. The good: The staff was friendly, the bed was comfortable, the A/C worked well, and the balcony was a nice touch. The room was quiet. Bottom line: The website gives a very different impression than what you actually get. Between the unreliable shuttle, limited and unpredictable restaurant hours, missing amenities, thin towels, and no coffee, this was not the anniversary experience we hoped for. I'd recommend staying somewhere closer to downtown so you're not dependent on a shuttle and stuck with limited options. I think we need to redo our anniversary. It was a miss for sure.

WWeiweiziThe hotel room was very spacious, and the location was excellent with plenty of restaurants nearby. The lobby was really impressive and grand, especially for an American-style hotel. We stayed for five nights, but the only downside was that we were charged $5 for the two complimentary bottles of water that were provided.

AAnonymous UserI was a bit worried because there weren't any Japanese families staying here and the location didn't seem the safest, but everything turned out fine. It's a bit far from Hollywood and Downtown, but it was less than a $20 Uber ride from the Harbor Gateway Transit Center (where you catch the Dodger Stadium Express), and there weren't long lines like at Union Station. So, if watching the Dodgers is your main goal, I highly recommend it! The building itself is old, but the rooms have been renovated and were very clean. Given the high prices in America, it was very reasonably priced and even included free breakfast – fantastic! There's also a Target and Ross Dress for Less nearby, perfect for souvenir shopping. I'll definitely use this place again!

The bed is big, and the room is quite spacious. The hygiene is also good. The facilities might be a bit old, but all in all, it's still a good stay.

Tt_m_yThe location is fantastic, with direct access to the D line. K-town also offers plenty of great food and shopping. It's a converted detached building, and the front yard is beautifully decorated. Inside, there's a lot of vintage decor, making it feel like it used to be an office, complete with a piano. I booked the room hoping for a tall arched window but it didn't have one. However, the overall facilities are clean, and the bed outlets and lighting are well-thought-out and convenient. The front desk staff are very welcoming.
