"A lovely place to stay with the lads, walls were thick enough so we couldn’t here robert getting piped . Regardless, a nice place for a lads holiday but you might want to watch out for Ian. He’s an absolute specimen. The pool was lovely on hot days with the lads. Just watch out for Ian. Another review had issues with him as well so maybe it’s a theme."

📍 Dimokratias 10, Malia

"Positives - The pool area is very nice, clean, with comfortable sun loungers as well as a shaded seating area. In addition, the pool bar was also very nice, pool bar food was lovely and fairly priced. Hotel location perfect, being only a few minutes walk from the main strip where all the clubs, bars and restaurants are situated. The 2 gentlemen often behind the pool bar were incredibly nice, spoke very good English and were always happy to help. The room was reasonably spaced for 3 people, beds were comfy and room comes with a balcony. Negatives - The bathroom is very poor, the shower was tiny and was not attached to the wall, this accompanied by the cheap shower curtain meant that every time someone had a shower the entire bathroom got flooded. For paying £800+ per person, it was our expectation that we could have a normal shower and not have to hold it by hand over our heads. On top of this our towels were not changed once by the maid despite her coming in a few times to make the beds and just generally tidy. The older lady who is on the reception is completely useless and unhelpful, anytime we asked anything of her she made it seem like it was hard work. Furthermore, when checking in she was blunt and unhelpful, told us our room number and didn’t even direct us leaving us to search the hotel and find the room ourselves. Nor were we offered any help with our baggage. Similarly, the lady who was often behind the pool bar was horrible, same bad attitude as the woman on reception. Completely unhelpful and always had a face like thunder, again made everything u asked seem like hard work. Very strict rules in hotel so be aware you will not be allowed to play any of your own music at poolside or bring any form of food and drink from outside the hotel. We had a few dealings with the woman mentioned previously trying to confiscate our water bottles we had bought from the shop opposing the hotel. Air con not included in room, paid 9 euros per day for air con that just blasted warm air around the room and made us all ill."

Very comfortable and very well equipped rooms. Very good quality all-day snack. Thanks to Héléna, Manos and their team for their friendly welcome. "Very pleasant hotel, friendly staff at your service. Possibility of renting a car for the day to visit the Island, essential because the hotel is quite far from the center and the beach and during high heat it is very complicated to walk under 36 degrees and on the way back it goes up lol. Hotel valid for a vacation to do nothing."

"Cheap and close to the centre, but that’s about the only good thing. When we arrived, the male staff member watched us struggle up many stairs with heavy suitcases and didn’t offer to help. The room floor hadn’t been cleaned — sand everywhere and hair in the shower from the last guests. When our toilet paper ran out, we asked for more and were told to go buy our own. The listing says “air conditioning included” but it’s actually $8 a day. We didn’t pay and spent a week uncomfortably hot. My friend asked for a clean towel and was refused. One night, a male staff member wrongly accused her of not being a guest, shouted at her, and threatened to call the police, very unsettling. Beds are rock-hard, the kitchen barely has utensils for a “self-catering” place, and the food is awful aka my tomato soup was green and tasted mouldy. Female staff are extremely patronising yet were overly friendly to the teenage boys staying there, not surprising. Only stay here if you need somewhere cheap to sleep and don’t care about cleanliness or basic hospitality because the staff clearly don’t care either."

"Overall the hotel is lovely and clean, and the majority of the staff are lovely. It was just a shame that the woman who I believe may be a part owner was incredibly rude. She was always very blunt and dismissive, and never smiles. On our last day, when our taxi arrived she entered our room and got really angry at us, ordering us out, telling me “give me the key, give me that bath mat, give me that towel” and being very rude and hostile saying we had to get out now. We also had a poor experience with the cleaner, who came in our room when we were all fast asleep and continued to clean around us, very loudly and opening the curtains, we also found her to he very rude. It is a shame they were so hostile, because other than that all the facilities were amazing, food and drinks at the bar were great. Mike the security guard was absolutely amazing, so friendly and he really did his job to a T, cannot thank him enough for everything he did. I would recommend staying here, i would just be cautious of treading on their toes!! The aircon is also not great, in 3 different rooms it was leaking and barely even noticeably on so that was also a down side. €9 a day to waft hot air around the room😔"

"Room with Jacuzzi not to be missed, modern and refined decoration, spacious room. Terrace with Jacuzzi and sea view (attention building under construction to take into account even if it does not obstruct the view). Impeccable cleanliness, very friendly common place, always free deckchairs. Small restaurant with low prices and open all day. All this not far from the hustle and bustle of Malia. Honestly excellent value for money."

"Pleased with the experience here at the The Sarpidon. I found it to be very clean, friendly and as a solo traveller( 3rd time in Crete) , the clientele is made up of plenty of frequent visitors who were wonderful to meet and chat too. The lovely Anne and Peter, Jane and Michelle and the hilarious Marie from Ireland - in promise I will return the glass 😇. The rapport the staff have with visitors is priceless. You could have paid 10 times the cost and still not received the attention and friendliness that I feel I had received here . Apologies to Dora who had to chase me down the street because I forgot to pay for my last snack - 100 m sprint better than an Olympic event. So sorry Dora 🙏. Won’t happen again 🫣. Situated right in the centre of Old Malia, close to a very convenient travel route that can take you from one end of the island to the other, with buses coming every 20 minutes. Take a walk out of the west exit of hotel and you find yourself in a delightful and quaint Old Village of Malia , rich in historic buildings, some converted into stunning restaurants and picture postcard beautiful streets. Sarpido also offers delicious meals and drinks reasonably priced and plenty on offer . The beach is in walking distance about 400 m or so but the beach on Malia is squeezed with so many sunbeds you’re near on top of each other - preferred the lovely cove at Hersonnisos 24 or around the pool the days I wasn’t off exploring. Sarpidon is ideally situated, surrounded by a stunning backdrop of mountains yet has everything you need for a memorable, relaxing holiday . Highly recommend. Keep Euros and change . Much preferred than card ."

"Please read this before booking this hotel! To begin with, the hotel is very clean and well maintained. The pool is spotless and pleasant to spend time in and around. The area around the restaurant and pool is also a big plus. However, the first thing you are met with at check-in is a tourist tax of €70 for a seven-night stay. This came as a surprise because it is a significant amount of money that could have been spent on many other things during the holiday. We then asked about pool towels and were told that they could be “rented” for €5 per person. The towels were very worn out and faded. They were not replaced or washed at any point during the week, which meant they became quite dirty by the end of our stay. All of the pool towels were different colours, brands and styles, and they clearly looked old and heavily used. Personally, I got the impression that they were towels left behind by previous guests and that the hotel now charges guests to use them. If the towels were considered dirty when returned, there was also an additional cleaning fee. For €5, I could have bought a brand-new towel in a local shop. At a four-star hotel, I expected pool towels to be provided as part of the service. There were many small things that, together, created the impression that the hotel is more focused on making money than providing good service. For example, at a four-star hotel I expect at least shampoo and conditioner to be available in the room. They do not have to be luxury products, but there should be something. There was nothing, so we had to buy our own. The minibar was also completely empty. And the WiFi didn’t really work so well up in the rooms, but it was ok in the poolarea. At the pool area, guests are not even allowed to bring their own bottled water if it was purchased outside the hotel. I understand not allowing outside food or snacks, but water should be an exception. The exact same bottle of water costs around €0.80 in a nearby shop but €3 at the hotel. In addition, you are not allowed to use the sun loungers that are placed in the water unless you buy something from the hotel bar. Again, this is another small thing that contributes to the feeling that the hotel is more profit-driven than guest-focused. At many other four-star hotels, for example in Turkey, I have never experienced anything like this. The biggest issue for us, however, was how incredibly noisy the rooms are. We stayed in a standard room and could hear our neighbours talking and showering. Every sound came through the walls. The hotel attracts many young guests who party at night and return late, which meant that we woke up several times every night because of noise from the corridors and nearby rooms. On top of that, the housekeeping staff started cleaning rooms and corridors at around 7:00–8:00 a.m., waking us up once again. We did not sleep through a single night during the entire week, which is very disappointing when you are trying to relax on holiday. The food"

STATE ALLA LARGA ———————————————————————— BEWARE UNTRASPARENT STAFF You are forced to pay for extra services that were already included in the total booking price: Air Conditioning (€8/day) and Safe (€2/day). Even the tourist tax, clearly listed as included in the *********** payment, was charged again. Reading other reviews, it seems I’m not the only one: this appears to be a recurring issue. *********** confirmed that the customer is right and acknowledged the irregularity, making refunds possible. UNCLEAR PAYMENT PRACTICES These extra services were requested in cash, with the excuse that the card terminal was “out of order.” After insisting on paying by card, a perfectly working POS machine suddenly appeared from under the counter. Highly suspicious behavior. ROOM CONDITIONS Basic room. The so-called kitchenette consists of a single electric burner — not enough to cook anything properly. Toilet paper and dishwashing supplies must be purchased by the guest. STAY AWAY."

"The hotel was very good, with modern design and modern facilities, we had two triple standard rooms and all of them were clean, tidy and well furnished on arrival. The shower and tap had good water pressure as well. The pool and outside were of high quality and very enjoyable to use as well, and again the furniture was comfy and clean. We stayed for 1 week at half board and all meals were of high quality and full of flavour, with the dinner time meal rotating menus each day and breakfast being the same staples each day, with a good mix of international and national items. Rooms were cleaned every day to a high standard and towels replaced every other day. Staff were lovely and extremely helpful and friendly, especially Tina who was very helpful with ordering a taxi for us to take us to Knossos palace and telling us how to get back by bus in Herakleion."
