"We were invited by friends to stay overnight at Whately Manor. We didn't select it ourselves, however, it turned out to be one of the nicest hotels we'd ever stayed in. Our room was lovely - everything was top quality, the food was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean and luxurious and everything just worked. We felt truly spoilt. A great base for exploring the area too. A special mention to the gardeners who were out there every morning tending the grounds - the plants and topiary were amazing."

The Kings Arms Hotel

The Kings Arms Hotel ★★★

📍 29 High St, Malmesbury

"We had a stable room which are not part of the main building. Small but practical shower room and toilet. But these rooms are well tired and need a spruce up desperately. The floor tiles in the bathroom either need a real deep scrub clean or replacement which would be best. The shower cubicle also needs replacing as clean it is not just years of wear and tear but needs to be sorted. Along with decor and skirtings all need a fresh look and deep clean. The small extractor works but please allow some tool to open the skylight window. The bedroom needs the same big overhaul tired and deep clean better shut one stable at a time and have them overhauled. A must air conditioning a much needed and easily installed requirement. Everyone sweated tremendously in their rooms as no form of s any air conditioning are installed in any room main building and stables. Very uncomfortable night drenched in sweat requiring a cold shower no and then which should not be the case these days at all. We did not feel rested as the uncomfortable sleeping conditions at all and this needs urgent attention. The pub not to bad have a selection of drinks you may expect. Along with a small menu for a bite to eat. Simon whom runs the place we found not really a helpful chap and a bit blunt and seemed not to care about guests needs. If you are visiting for a gig at Westonbirt please arrange Taxi if you need one well in advance if able. This was a major issue with no real help from Simon at all seemed to some he simply did not care. Luckily after a hour or so we unbelievably sorted out our own transport. Simon even mentioned you can walk ! a distance of 6 miles then back in this heat. Not very helpful . As a business in his industry which all are struggling. Purchase or sort out a minibus to transport guests attending concerts. This would be a great addition to everyone's stay handled properly an asset. Malmsbury a beautiful area and very historic well worth a visit. We would rebook The Kings Arms again only if the rooms were upgraded as mentioned otherwise no. You may take your own big fan which if no upgrades we would advise strongly. The main pub again very tired and needs a good deep clean and redecoration. Car parking very touchy if you have a big car through the horse and cart tunnel but plenty of space if you get through. Lovely fresh bread bakery next door and cafe left of the pub on the right."

📍 The Street, Malmesbury

"Kind hosts, cozy place, cute room, really enjoyed, unfortunatelly only one night during our detour to Cotswold. Very good breakfast in authemtic restaurant, and a pint of pale ale the evening before. The rather loud fridge in the room did not disturb us as we were exhausted after an intensive day of sightseeing. So nothing to complain really :)"

The Old Bell Hotel ★★★★
"I discovered a hidden gem of a hotel during my trip, and I highly recommend it. The rooms are even more beautiful than the photos on the official website. The food in the hotel restaurant is absolutely delicious. The environment is clean, tidy, and well-equipped. It's about an hour's drive from Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury. Stepping into the town feels like entering a medieval paradise. It's a pity my itinerary was too tight, otherwise I would have considered staying a few more nights to explore the surrounding area's beautiful scenery and delicious food."

"We stayed on a Sunday , my wife having won the 9 course tasting menu with wine flight ( super prize) so decided to splash out on an overnight stay. We were not disappointed. The surroundings and service are superb, it seems there are more staff than guests and the experience is very special. Our room was not over large but it had every facility imaginable including an enormous comfy bed, TV with all modern apps , Dyson fan and hairdryer and Nespresso coffee machine . We visited the spa which was very nice , robes , towels & flip flops provided . There are only 23 rooms in hotel so nowhere seems crowded. The off to bar for a pre dinner drink before being escorted to kitchen initially to meet the chef(s) and the start of our dining experience. Then on to dining room where the magnificent food kept on coming , perfectly paced , accompanied by very fine wines , all explained by staff . Steak , caviar , plum dessert , ice cream sandwich and yes the bread course were all highlights. At the end we were appropriately full and a bit woozy , perfect. After a great nights sleep we were wowed by breakfast, in particular the overnight roasted tomato and the trout and eggs. Service again great . Rounded off our treat with a stroll round the gardens which even in February were beautifully kept and very interesting. Would be marvellous in summer . Then sadly back to real world after a truly unforgettable experience."

"Nice venue but sadly lacking menu, the food was very dry and some dishes were overly spiced, the ribs were badly butchered and full of splinter bones Would not return"

"A pleasant and relaxing brewery owned pub and hotel in the southern end of the Cotswolds. Very good dinner and breakfast menu (particularly impportant because there are no other eating options in the village). Bar is frequented by the local farming community which adds to the rustic and cosy asmosphere. Staff are helpful. Plentiful parking. Being a very old property there are understandably some accessibility problems (e.g steep staircase and narrow corridors), the rooms are variable in size and have differing facilities."
