"We hesitated when booking as we normally go for 3 Stars or above, but we are so glad we stayed here. What a super hotel! Yes, the rooms are a bit basic, but they are comfortable, clean and have everything you need (except maybe a fridge - but that's not the end of the world). Our room had a balcony with a side view of the sea and it was such a gorgeous place to sit and take in the views. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the buffet breakfast is good quality and there's plenty of choice. We were there in high season and parking in this area of Mojacar is difficult, so the fact they have their own undergound parking (10€/day) is a huge bonus. It's a great car park too, not small and tight spaces like some others. Next time we visit Mojacar, we won't be bothering with the bigger and posher hotels. No, we'll be straight back to Virgen del Mar! Well done everyone at the hotel, you're doing a great job! You have a lovely hotel with that welcoming 'family' feeling."

"If you're looking for a hotel with direct beach access from your room and don't want to spend a fortune, this place might seem ideal. But keep in mind that appearances can be deceiving. The hotel's facilities are so dated and rundown that they could be the subject of an episode of an '80s TV show. The walls are so thin that you could engage in conversation with your neighbors without raising your voice. And to top it all off, the bed has springs that make you feel like you're sleeping on a minefield. In short, this hotel is perfect if you love nostalgia and budget-friendly adventures, but if you value comfort and good maintenance, you'd better keep looking. P.S.: Not suitable for guests with reduced mobility."

"If you are thinking about staying anywhere in the area, go to Cortijo El Sarmiento! I recently spent 3 months in Spain, traveling from San Sebastian on the north coast, around the peninsula to Valencia on the south coast, and everywhere in between. I can say without reservation that my time at Cortijo El Sarmiento was the best overall hotel experience and one of the highlights of my entire trip. Yvonne and Carsten have created an atmosphere of simple, quiet luxury. They were the perfect hosts, and went above and beyond to ensure that their guests had a wonderful time. Carsten's breakfasts and Yvonne's wine and restaurant recommendations were amazing. They really made an effort to get to know their guests and arranged fascinating side trips to local points of interest. I felt more a friend of the family than a guest, and truly did not want to leave. I look forward to returning to Cortijo El Sarmiento whenever I am able to return to Spain.
