THE GOOD: The hotel was recently renovated, rooms are nicely renovated with beautiful bathrooms. A nice size fitness center and a small but nice pool area. THE BAD: Wifi was absolutely horrible, there was ZERO wi-fi service in the lobby, restaurant or pool area. The Wi-fit would connect for 2 - 3 seconds then drop. When I asked the attended at the café if I could use the Westin Meeting wi-fi I was told no, they don’t have the password. In my room every so often the wi-fi would drop and it would take 20 – 30 minutes to reconnect!!! Furthermore, the power outlet at the desk was dead, there was also no power near the bed to plug in your laptop! Sadly, the food and beverage offerings at this hotel are on par with a Holiday Inn Express. There is no full-service restaurant, just a grab and go café which serves mediocre food. There is a limited breakfast buffet in the morning with poor quality food. On both mornings of my stay the scrambled eggs were a rubbery mess, the breakfast potatoes lacked flavor. The only item that seemed decent to eat were the fresh berries and bread. The quality of the food from room service/grab and go was also upsetting. If you want a full-service dinning experience, you are told to walk over to the Sheraton…. really? BTW: I was told the hotel kitchen is also located at the Sheraton, food is not cooked onsite at the Westin. Hospitality at the hotel is hit and miss. The front desk seems pleasant, but staff were very hesitant to go the extra mile to please… they lacked the hospitality soft skills I have experienced at other hotels of the same caliber. Café staff is very unhelpful, not very friendly, I receive a far better guest experience at my local In-N-Out Burger. In the end if you are expecting an upscale hotel experience in the Palo Alto / Stanford area the Westin disappoints. For the price I would expect a memorable experience, one where you would hate to leave and could not wait to return. During my stay I was looking forward to leaving, I really felt like it was a waste of $$$ and time staying here. When I left, I felt like I had just stayed at a Holiday Inn express with upscale rooms. Hotel should be rebranded... it's not an upscale full service hotel that is about hospitality with a mindset of wellness.

Hilton Garden Inn Palo Alto

Hilton Garden Inn Palo Alto

Palo Alto|4.05km from city centre
Pros: (For this part, this hotel deserved a 5-star review) 1. Rohan the front desk manager was nice. He made me feel welcome. He acknowledged the Hilton gold member status right away and offered the perks without me asking. He offered $ 10 breakfast credit or additional reward points.Which I picked the breakfast credit. He also gave us an upgrade to a bigger room and waived the parking fee. 2. The room is really clean and everything in great order. For example, the bathtub held the temperature of water for a long time and the shower drains fast. The bed is firm, which I like a lot. The thermostat, the refrigerator, the TV, etc all in great condition. The edges of the bathroom walls or around the bathtub also looked very clean. 3. The gym, the swimming pool, and the hot tub are all well maintained.4. The location is really good. Close to all the places we need to go. 5. The room does not have any strange smell. Cons: (For this part, one star out of five was removed) 1. Billing system: Used the Hilton app to checkout on my mobile phone. The pdf of the receipt never arrive in my email. So I went to the front desk to ask for a printout of the receipt. That was when I found out that all the perks (waive parking fee, breakfast credit, etc) promised at check-in for gold member status were not honored and my credit card was charged. The front desk manager could not find the credits in the system until I mentioned Rohan's name. Then the credits were finally applied and I got a new receipt. So it is always a great idea to make sure you review the receipt before leaving the hotel to avoid surprises like that. 2. $12.95 continental breakfast per person is steep, considering what you get. There are just some cut fruits, pastries, and bagels, and Quaker instant oatmeal in the cup. I was expecting some eggs, pancakes or hash browns for that price. I don't recommend it unless you need the convenience of eating breakfast in the hotel and you are given the $10 credits. 3. Instructions about the facility are lacking: I could not find the pool hours and breakfast hours on the hotel website or in the app. I did not see any posted signs about the hours, either. Had to ask the front desk for information. 4. The blackout curtain in the bedroom cannot totally be pulled to the center to cover the entire window. It left a big gap (about 4 feet wide). got woken up by the bright light early. 5.$15 parking fee.

Comfort Inn Palo Alto

This is the second time I stayed at this hotel. Basically I chose it because of the affordable price and the proximity to Stanford hospital. If you are wanting a hotel that is quiet, this is not the place. The rooms open to the outside and is situated off a very busy main thoroughfare. I must say, they have done an admirable job of updating the bathroom. You can still tell where the old and the new meet but still very nice. This is supposed to be a hotel with non-smoking rooms but as soon as I stepped into my room, 203, I was smacked in the face by the smell of rancid cigarette smoke that must’ve been absorbed into the carpet. Even though the bathroom had been updated, I can’t that the bedroom area has been with torn curtains, old furniture and a refrigerator that was so loud at times, I had to unplug it. And then there is the carpet. It wasn’t dirty but very smelly. This is where the confused part comes in. When I checked out the next morning, there was a couple behind the counter. I am assuming they may be the owners. I mentioned that the room smelled awful and that it may be from the carpet. It smelled of stale smoke. I wasn’t pissy about it. Just mentioning the facts. They asked which room it was. I told them and the man seemed to be writing it down. Then the woman says to me there is no carpet in that room. Huh? I told her there is. Then the man said no, there is no carpet in the room. I told them I just came from that room and there definitely is carpet in the room. They continued to argue with me. Seriously? Whatever. I just turned around and left. They do have a free breakfast but I didn’t want to stick around for it.

The Zen Hotel Palo Alto

I cannot say enough good things about the amazing people who run this hotel. I had medical appointments in Palo Alto on consecutive days and needed a room that could accommodate my desire for certain covid mitigation/precautions (room entry from outdoors, and individual AC units.) I spoke with Roger who not only confirmed Zen Hotel’s protocols and features, he also told me they host many people who are in town for medical issues (Stanford Hospital, and other large medical facilities, are nearby) so the staff there is very careful. A few days prior to our visit, I emailed to asked for additional measures, and Jorge, the Front Desk Agent, acknowledged my request. We arrived, checked in, noted that my request had been honored, and had a quiet, comfortable visit. When I arrived home the following night there were two messages from Jorge, and one from Roger, who had called early the previous day (prior to my arrival) to ask for my credit card info which had somehow not been logged into their system. They were sold out and needed confirmation of payment from me, but — long story short(er)—I didn’t receive the messages until after I returned. They had every right to cancel the appointment but did not. They gave me the benefit of their doubt, and their commitment to serving those with medical needs. I keep getting teary-eyed, writing this. Such decency and kindness! When I called today to thank them, Jorge told me, had they had to cancel the reservation, they would have found accommodations for me in one of their affiliated hotels. I’ve never experienced this level of customer service and care from any other hotel. So thank you again, Roger and Jorge and Zen Hotel Palo Alto. I will most certainly stay at Zen again (and make sure you have all the info you need in advance!)

Hotel Keen

Very good stay experience, first of all, the surrounding environment is very comfortable, is the center of Palo Alto, but not the big city of San Francisco, called downtown, there is a main road, beautiful and prosperous. Stanford University is right next to me, I go to the campus every day. It’s much more comfortable than living in downtown San Francisco. The breakfast was very good. The room is comfortable and quiet. The only downside is that the room is small, but I don't mind this.
Cardinal Hotel

I didn't realize how beautiful and charming this hotel would be. It is really lovely. Lobby is full of history, nice little plaques explaining the fireplace, wrought iron lamp, etc. Room was simple, spacious, clean, airy, and extremely comfortable. Excellent reading chair, desk chair with height adjustment (thank you!), great toiletries, very quiet and peaceful. Very friendly down-to-earth desk staff. Fantastic location, totally walkable everywhere. Coffee in lobby in the morning. Would gladly stay here again.

Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel, an IHG Hotel

The environment of the hotel is beautiful, the houses are clean and tidy, and the service is very good. On the first night when we slept, we heard a noise like an exhaust fan outside. The next day we reported it to the front desk and changed our room. The new room and bathroom were bigger than the previous one. We lived very comfortably.
Oak Motel

Breakfast is very simple. There is only one coffee table and sofa in the room. There is a parking room. The room smells. It may be a smell. There is hair on the bathroom towel. It may be because it is cheap. The occupancy experience is not good, but it is really cheap compared to other local residences.
AC Hotel by Marriott Palo Alto
4.6/580 Reviews
The facilities are very new and the rooms are very clean. The breakfast was rich and the staff was very welcoming. They even packed hot eggs and bread for us before we had to fly on the last day. The surrounding communities are very safe, and the nearest commercial area is about 2.5 kilometers away. Overall, it's a good choice for business travel.
