"We celebrated my partner’s 30th birthday here, and it honestly felt magical from the moment we arrived. The whole team made us feel so cared for, both Gayathri and Praneed, our naturalists / hosts, were just incredible. During our safari, Gayathri helped us spot not one, but four leopards at Wilpattu National Park (two walked right towards us!), even though it was monsoon season. The food was amazing throughout our stay. From fresh seafood BBQ one night, a lovely picnic by the mangroves, and the bartender mixed some of the best cocktails we had in Sri Lanka. Everything felt relaxed but thoughtful, like they really wanted us to enjoy ourselves. What stood out most was how the team’s hospitality extended to the surroundings, including the natural elements and wildlife. Elephants sometimes visit the property, and everyone treats them gently. Even the local community dogs are cared for, which says a lot about the heart and soul behind this place. Our villa was stunning, everything we could ask for and more! Included as bedside reading was Bawa literature on the local architect and pioneer, amidst a private, peaceful, and lush surrounding. The plunge pool at the villa was a dream after long days of exploring. Because the property only has 7 villas, it never felt crowded or commercial. From a sunset picnic in the mangroves to the warm smiles of all members of the team — including our captain of our voyage who was a fisherman from the neighboring village — it all felt so personal. Taru Villas Wilpattu truly made this trip one we’ll never forget! "We had two wonderful nights at Bar Reef Resort. The beach cabanas were truly amazing, and the salt water infinity pool was lovely for a morning swim. Plus, it was long enough for some swimming exercises. The authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry was amazing. The whole team was incredibly kind and attentive. Sampath, in particular, made the experience truly splendid. He was funny, keen to approve his German, and we practiced a little :) He was also very friendly, kind and attentive. We are definitely planning to return for our next holiday in Sri Lanka."
