Barra da Tijuca is a large neighbourhood with condominiums and shopping center anchored on the long and picturesque Praia da Barra. Other stretches of sand include the trendy Praia do Pepê and the surfing areas of Recreio and Macumba, where casual bars and seafood restaurants line the beach. In addition, much of the excitement takes place in giant malls such as BarraShopping, with cinemas, trendy clubs, gourmet cafes and bowling alleys. The region of Barra da Tijuca, Recreio dos Bandeirantes and its surroundings only started to be more inhabited around the 80s and 90s, so you still find there many areas of environmental reserve and corners so dazzling that its hard to believe that you didnt leave “the city beauty and chaos ”.
