First and foremost , if you are not arriving by car to the hotel , but by train via the (Southend airport ) Liverpool street line , and you don't fancy hiring a taxi , then there is some walking to do before you reach the number 9 bus stop ( the closest stop to the hotel )- make sure you get the Raleigh bound bus .Ask for Premier Inn , hotel , or Tesco store near strawberry fields -, then you have some more walking to do , BEFORE you reach the hotel ( fine if it's not raining ). I arrived too late for the evening meal , and had snacked on the way - if you're still hungry after a late arrival , the nearby Tesco store ( open until midnight most days ), has a ready made sandwich section near its entrance . The hotel receptionists were friendly , and informative , and I was soon in my room , number 27 .I was given a basic room , which lacked a mini fridge/cooler , a bedside phone , or even a luggage stand , where I would unpack my case - in some Premier Inns , they have an upgraded class of rooms , but keep in mind , this particular Premier Inn is a 3 star hotel . No complimentary toiletries , just a few soap/shower wash dispensers in the bathroom .The bath itself was quite high off the floor , and getting out (of the bath ) might be a bit hazardous for some - don't say you weren't warned !!. The bed itself was comfortable and the A/C worked well , and if it wasn't for the " elephants playing basketball " in the room above me , after midnight for 3 nights of the trot , I would have gotten a reasonable night's sleep - admittedly reception did offer me a different room , but I had made myself comfortable in my room by then . If you are staying for several days , and want you room cleaned regularly , including towels changed etc , you have to inform reception in a timely manor The thing that left a bad taste in my mouth , and threatened to spoil the stay as a whole , was that a local friend , whom I hadn't seen for several years ,tried to contact me through the hotel , and the message was not communicated to me via the reception desk in a timely , or intelligible manor This particular Premier Inn needs a refurbishment , it lacks refinement ,and in future ,I would be tempted to try the Southend airport Holiday Inn , just for comparison ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As for the ( associated) Beefeater Inn , where one eats one's meals , the atmosphere was friendly , and family oriented , with good access for wheelchair " confined" patrons .The staff friendly , and as a whole ,efficient , in their tasks . I had opted for a meal deal , which on top of a full English breakfast , gave me the option of choices when it came to various dinner options , based around a main course , a desert and a drink - add on options are charged as extra. The portion size was barely sufficient - some noticeable gaps on the plates on which some of the items s
