James' Place @ Pontmorlais ★★★★

📍 74A High street, Town

"We stayed in Studio 9, Outside In and had an amazing weekend. Loved the way the studio was decorated, it was very cosy and great value for money. A lot of thought has gone into decorating the accomodation and we loved the unique character of the studio. The location is good for visiting the Brecon Beacons and is in the town centre which is very convenient. Self check in was easy and convenient. We have stayed at a different property of James' before, Brynawel, and that was also lovely and a great experience. We appreciated the email from the hosts with recommendations of places in the local area. Would definitely recommend staying at James' Place if you are visiting the Brecon Beacons, you will not be disappointed 😃 "

Castle Hotel ★★★

📍 Castle St, Town

"Centrally located hotel, easily reached by foot within 5 mins from central train & bus stations. Friendly & helpful staff; spacious & clean double room, with a most comfortable bed. Although a phone and hair dryer were noted as being located in my room, I clearly noticed their absence. Luckily, I didn't require either during my stay. Tea/coffee making facilities were most welcome however. Good amount of wardrobe space, and my room was tastefully decorated in shades of green & cream (very relaxing tones, all in all). Fully functioning restaurant & bar on ground floor, and 2 suites on the 1st floor that cater to wedding receptions / conferences - again, highly appealing decor all throughout."

Howfield Hotel ★★★
"Spotless clean and brand new facilities. Self check in was smooth. We were on the 3rd floor so a bit tricky if you have a big luggage. The room looked like the pics of even better. can reccomend."

James' Place @ Pontmorlais ★★★★
"It's extremely poor value for money, but considering this is the UK, there's no other way."

Castle Hotel ★★★
"One of the cheapest hotels I've stayed in and really very good. The communal areas and my room had clearly recently been decorated (I wouldn't use refurbished) so everything worked and was clean and tidy. The lady on the desk was excellent. Service at breakfast was a bit strange. Staff kept looking at me but no one seemed to want to serve me but once over that the food was good. The only thing I'd do differently next time would be to take my own pillows (or maybe ask for an alternative). The ones on my bed were about 18" deep and rock hard, completely useless."

James' Place at Brynawel ★★★★
"First of all the positives. 1.The room and bathroom were both very clean and elegantly decorated. 2. The house is in a nice area reasonably close to MT town centre. Unfortunately there were lots of negatives. 1. The main door wouldn't open and we spent about 10 minutes trying to get in before the door would eventually give in to a hefty shoulder. 2. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Low, small with a mattress that was not conducive to a good night's sleep. 3. There was no wardrobe only a chest of drawers of which one drawer would not open. 4. The accommodation was supposed to be self catering but we never found any kitchen area and there was no information about how to find it in the instructions and we didn't feel comfortable wandering about the house trying to find it. 5. The directions said that it was a large white house as in the picture. It is now blue and was covered in scaffolding which covered the name of the house so it was difficult to know it was the correct house. 6. The shower was more a heavy mist. 7. The towels were never changed in the three nights we were there and given we were on a walking trip consequently were ponging somewhat by the end of our stay. I've stayed in much worse but it was in the bottom third of those we have. It wouldn't take much to raise this from a 2 star to a 4 star review but as another reviewer comments it appears the owner has rather lost the love for the place."
