L TangWe just checked out of Spring 12 house, a true gem in central Chiayi. The owners have taken one of the lovely old wooden houses and really lovingly restored it. It’s a real piece of architectural and cultural heritage, but also at the same time very tastefully equipped with all modern facilities and comforts. There is even a little machine dispensing free Asahi beer. The owners were also extremely welcoming and helpful both on check-in and check-out. The location is also great - it’s down a narrow alley so there’s no traffic noise but it’s just a few steps away from the main shopping, eating and night market areas. All in all, a truly unique and wonderful place to stay.

The service attitude was excellent; they were very proactive in helping with everything. Parking was a bit tricky right at the hotel entrance, so we had to use their partner parking lot, which wasn't too far. The hotel itself is pretty standard, not luxurious, and the facilities are a bit dated, but it was still clean and tidy. Unfortunately, the soundproofing between floors wasn't great. Kids running and jumping upstairs sounded like an earthquake all night, and we could also hear noise from the neighboring rooms. The breakfast was a buffet with limited options, pretty much standard fare, but they did have some local specialties like chicken rice and Danzai noodles. Overall, for the price, it was decent value for money, especially if you can overlook the noise issues I mentioned.

Anonymous UserThis hostel is super close to Chiayi train station, which is incredibly convenient. It's located down an alleyway, so it's not noisy at all. Light Hostel is by far the most satisfying hostel I've ever stayed in, both in terms of cleanliness and facilities. It offers great value for money:
1. The lobby has individual shoe lockers, and you change into indoor slippers before entering the rooms, which is very hygienic.
2. The dorm beds have blackout curtains, providing privacy and preventing disturbances from roommates. There's a small reading light at the head of the bed, so you don't have to worry about dim lighting when reading or using your phone at night. There are hooks at the foot of the bed for hanging clothes or towels.
3. The bathrooms are exceptionally clean and tidy. If you're an early riser or come back late, there are hairdryers in the common area, so you don't disturb your roommates. Each room has its own water heater, so you don't have to wait long for hot water when showering.
4. The lobby has a water dispenser with 24-hour hot water, and both the kitchen and common areas are very clean.
If you're visiting Chiayi, Light Hostel is an excellent choice!

The room was spacious and the front desk service was excellent. However, complimentary bottled water isn't provided, and disposable toiletries are only given upon request, which is a bit different from what's common in mainland China.
The 3rd floor has a communal lounge and a laundry room, and it seemed quite lively with many people chatting. However, after a long day of sightseeing, I was too tired to socialize.
The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, being extremely close to the high-speed rail station, bus station, and night market!
The ********* people are incredibly friendly! My boyfriend almost lost his phone at the night market, but a snack stall owner helped keep it safe for him. We're truly grateful for their kindness!

It was my first time staying here. The room and toilet were big and clean. But the soundproofing seems to be poor. If someone is talking in the corridor (maybe a nearby neighbor), they can hear it in the room. 😂

On a last-minute business trip to Chiayi, An Lan Chu's self check-in was incredibly convenient. There's an Akun breakfast spot right across the street; I just had to queue for a bit to grab some breakfast. Enjoying it back at An Lan Chu and chatting with my roommates was really pleasant!

The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from the train station and a 10-minute walk from the Chiayi Cultural Tourism Night Market. The room was clean and comfortable. The area around is lively with plenty of food options, yet the hotel itself is located in a pretty quiet spot.

Guest Useralthough it seemed like a short walk from the train station, there weren't proper sidewalks or pavements, so it is quite challenging when dragging luggages

Satisfactory 2-night stay that they also provide complimentary breakfast . Clean and decent space. We are happy and would use it again if the price is affordable. Recommended 👍

MattHalsall89Great location near the Chiayi train station. Very convenient if you plan a day trip to Alishan. However we found ants and cockroaches in our room. It was manageable on a budget but if insects make you uncomfortable I would not recommend.
