Crowne Plaza HAMBURG - CITY ALSTER by IHG

9.2/10
Great

My stay at the Crowne Plaza Hamburg - City Alster was absolutely superb. From the moment I arrived, the elegant and professional atmosphere was noticeable. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, with a incredibly comfortable bed and a fantastic view. The location is also ideal for both enjoying the beautiful Alster lake and accessing the city center. It’s the attentive service and premium amenities that set this hotel apart. I felt thoroughly pampered and would not hesitate to return for another luxurious stay.

I had a really pleasant stay at this hotel. The property is beautiful, very clean, and overall feels well maintained. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. I especially liked that coffee and drinks are available anytime, which is a really nice touch. The breakfast was also great, and the pancake machine was such a cute and fun addition. I would also like to give a special thank you to Adrian at the front desk (I hope I spelled his name correctly). He was absolutely fantastic, very kind, professional, and genuinely caring. He communicated clearly and handled everything very well. I even noticed he was training other colleagues, and it was obvious that he understands the business and customer service extremely well. He really made a positive difference during my stay. There was unfortunately one issue with housekeeping during my stay. I had stayed one day, liked it so much stayed 4 more days. On my first day, on several occasions a cleaner entered or attempted to enter my room early in the morning even though check-out was at 12:00. On my first day they knocked at 11am/12/12.30 and actually came in at 12pm, although I had paid for late check out (which by the way is an amazing option to have), while I was still naked in bed.  One cleaner in particular — an older woman with short burgundy/brown hair — was quite abrupt. She repeatedly gestured for me to leave quickly. At one point she pointed at her wrist as if indicating a watch and used hand gestures to signal that I should hurry and leave, even though I still had time before check-out. It felt quite uncomfortable, especially as housekeeping knocked once and then opened the door quickly on a couple of occasions. On my last day, someone actually came in at 10AM in the morning. I just do not understand. I know it is a big hotel, I know they have to get a lot of rooms done in a short amount of time. I just do not understand the aggression of demanding a guest to leave so they can clean. Thankfully, Adrian at the front desk was extremely helpful when I explained the situation. He took my concern seriously and helped communicate with the housekeeping team so it wouldn’t continue. Adrian really saved my stay!

Great stay — second time and still amazing I had another wonderful stay at the Hampton by Hilton in Hamburg — this was actually my second time here. The first time I stayed with my mother, and this time with my fiancée, and both experiences have been consistently great. The service is excellent. The staff are always smiling, very kind, and extremely polite, which really makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Everything about the hotel feels lovely and well taken care of. The gym is nice and well-equipped, perfect if you want to keep up your routine while traveling. Breakfast is amazing — plenty of options and everything fresh and tasty, definitely one of the highlights of the stay. The location is also fantastic. It’s close to public transport (there’s a tram stop nearby), making it easy to get around the city. There’s also a great falafel/döner spot close by if you’re looking for a late-night snack, which was a fun bonus. Plus, it’s very close to Westfield, where you can enjoy the scenery and find lots of nice restaurants and shops. Overall, an amazing stay once again. Thank you to the whole team — I’ll definitely be back.

After a slight initial confusion during check-in – I'd never booked through a system like this before – I was genuinely thrilled with the quality of the rooms! Super comfortable beds, a fantastic accessible bathroom, and modern room design. We were extremely satisfied and will definitely become regular guests at Sleep Hotels and recommend them to others!

A great hotel for a few days. The staff was very friendly and helpful and breakfast was really good. Most of the fresh fruit salad convinced me. The flat is quite narrow, and the fact that you come into the parking house only after check-in was not directly visible. But in all, it is absolutely recommended to continue

I had a disappointing experience regarding the bed assignment. I specifically requested a lower bed, but upon arrival I was assigned to a bunk on the 3rd level, and even placed in the middle bunk. This was uncomfortable and not what I had requested. It seems that guest preferences are not taken seriously, which negatively affected my stay.

ood location near to Hamburg main station. Check in was slow as there was only one old senior lady at the counter who kept talking to the guests in front of me and told me 5 times “just a moment…” The she left at 3pm and change shift to a young man who was much more efficient and friendly. My room was dark and smell funny but the bathroom is clean. Bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was same every day. Restaurant staffs are nice. Would recommend only if you need to be near the train station.

a&o Hamburg Reeperbahn

Well.. Do you really feel comfortable? Yes, the building (a&o Hamburg Reeperbahn, formerly Hotel Stern, address Reeperbahn 152/154) actually has a connection to the Nazi era - it was not a direct concentration camp or large concentration camp, but it was used as a forced labour camp in 1940. The exact connection (based on historical sources): • The house was built in 1891 as a Logierhaus Concordia - a cheap lodging house for poor men (e.g. Sailors, travellers without a permanent residence). It had 235 small single rooms, shared toilets and was typical for the rough harbour and red light district of St. Pauli. • In the Nazi era (especially from the 1930s), the house was often used by the porters (caretakers) to denounce (advertise) guests. Many men (e.g. B. homosexuals, ***********, ”asocials”) were arrested there and imprisoned - this was unfortunately common in Hamburg's ”Kiez”. • From August 1940: There was a forced labour camp of Deutsche Werft AG (a large Hamburg shipyard). The company used the existing building as accommodation for forced labourers - prisoners of war (POWs), civilians deported from occupied countries and from 1944 also prisoners from concentration camps (concentration camp subcamps). The shipyard had several such camps (mainly in Finkenwerder and harbour area), and this one in the Reeperbahn was one of them. Exact numbers (how many people, conditions) are not well documented, but it was part of the huge system of forced labour in Hamburg (a total of 400,000–500,000 people affected). • A Stolperstein biography mentions e.g. B. that a French woman had to perform forced labour in 1944 as a kitchen assistant in the Reeperbahn 154 Foreign Home (during pregnancy) before she came to another camp. After the war it became a normal tourist home again, converted into an Eros Centre (a large *******) in 1964, later refugee accommodation (in the 80s very dilapidated), then from 1999 Hotel Stern and 2009 a&o. Well. We had a real good sleep anyway. The Bath Room is so warm and the elevator was real… you will see…. Danke ;)
