The only downside is that the toilet in the standard double room is very small; you'll bump into it if you turn around. It's very convenient if you're driving, but less so by public transport, as only the airport line goes there. It's best to check the timetable carefully and arrive early; otherwise, you'll need the front desk to help you call a taxi. A taxi from Abashiri city center costs around 2000 yen.
The service is excellent; it's a Japanese government-designated international hospitality hotel. However, it's clear that it's a product of a period of rapid economic development, having made many compromises to cater to modern clientele. For example, the large public bath has a peeling ceiling, the breakfast selection is meager, and the rooms have a worn-out feel. The most unbearable thing is the room type with two single beds in the tatami room—the layout looks really strange—and the shower water pressure is too low; a 10-minute shower took half an hour.
