The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance.
Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure.
Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center.
The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range.
Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.”
At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive.
It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors.
If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market.
For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

The hotel's location is great, within walking distance to all attractions in the center of Georgetown. The rooms are clean and tidy, but the breakfast selection isn't very rich. The front desk staff could be a bit more enthusiastic. Parking can be a bit tight; if you come back late, you might struggle to find a spot. Otherwise, everything else was quite good.

Gotta say, the vibe at this hostel is amazing, exactly what you'd expect from an international hostel. There are activities every night, and everyone is so welcoming. It's perfect for young people and those who love to socialize. Just a friendly tip: it's a good idea to bring a pair of slippers! 😹😹😹 And they have cats! When I was leaving in the morning, a cat seemed to sense I was alone and came over to keep me company.

A good stay overall with all the basics—clean towels, comfy beds, aircon, and hot water. Check-in was smooth via WhatsApp using a key code. Some minor issues: smoke smell in the 3rd-floor hallway, noise from upstairs rooms, and slightly weak flooring near the bathroom. Still, it was a decent first-time experience and good value for the price.
For tourists, a few things to note:
• This is a solid example of a budget hotel—simple, no-frills, and affordable.
• Daily housekeeping is not included. If you’d like your room cleaned and tidied during your stay, there’s an optional charge of RM30 per session.
• A RM50 deposit is required and refundable on check-out day.
• Message the hotel via WhatsApp at least a day before check-out to confirm your departure time. A staff member will inspect the room before returning the deposit.
• Cash refunds are only available between 9 am and 12 am daily. Check-out is by 12 noon, and unclaimed cash deposits will not be refunded.
• For foreigners, if the deposit is not collected in person, refunds are only processed via Wise or Alipay.
• Allow 10–15 minutes for room inspection and deposit return.
• The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport, possibly longer with traffic—so plan ahead, especially if catching a flight.

Hotel location is a plus point, surrounded by many local restaurants and cafe, just the car parking spaces are very limited, not so convenient for the visitor who drives car. No mineral water provided, need to get filtered water outside the room. in front of hotel has many trees and you would have high chance to hit by bird shits every day.
When staying at THE CENTURY HOSTEL (GEORGE TOWN), you'll be perfectly positioned to explore all that George Town has to offer.
Head to the outdoor pool to get some exercise or simply relax.
At this hotel, you'll have access to a gaming area and tea room. Staff at this property's front desk can speak 3 languages, including English. This property also offers free luggage storage.
When driving to the property, you can use the free parking lot.

This is the best value backpacker hostel in Penang, and it even has a swimming pool! It's my top choice in Penang, especially since it's located in the heritage area of the city, making it super convenient to get around. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, providing a relaxing environment after a long day. Housekeeping did a good job, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt calm and welcoming.
Superb location, close to so many well known eateries. Rapid bus is at hostel doorstep to commute to various places of interests. Capsule bed is enclosed by concrete wall and you wouldn't hear movements on the top bed. Air conditioning and hot showers are strong. There are many lounges to rest and relax and love the Peranakan ambience of the hostel. Staff are nice and helpful and love that the towels are of the reputable hotel quality and are changed once every 2 days. A bottle of drinking water given everyday by the housekeeper.
The staff were courteous and professional, and check-in and check-out were smooth. Amenities were adequate and met expectations for a comfortable stay.
The centerpiece of this hotel is a square Zen garden, with a rectangular open sky roof that lets rain in to nourish the plants indoors. This very much adds to the relaxing ambience of the place.
One of the best places to hang out at this sizeable hotel is at the commons, where there are comfy leather couches, a TV, a fridge, a water dispenser, an ironing board and also worth mentioning a bookshelf filled with books and board games. It is open for all registered hotel guests to use, and is nicely equipped and furnished.
Working shower with heater. Also, clean toilet. I recommended place to stay for solo travelers or with friends.
I liked this hotel very much. If you stay for three days, the hotel provides laundry service. I would happily stay again
Overall, it was a excellent experience, and I would consider staying here again in the future.

The accommodation matches the photos and description. The location is perfect and everything is clean.
We were the only guests, with a man in the next room. We could hear absolutely everything, even his snoring. The included breakfast consists of one dish of your choice. No drinks are included. Not even coffee 😭 But you will have the pleasure of lukewarm water throughout your stay.
Despite everything, we had the two worst nights since we arrived in Malaysia. The double room faces the street. There is no soundproofing and it's stiflingly hot. We never leave the air conditioning on at night, but there was no choice.
On the ground floor, there is a restaurant with extras. Once it closes, the air conditioning is turned off, making it impossible to turn it on to stay downstairs in the evening or early morning (they arrive around 9:00 am). This is the major drawback: no common area for guests. It's a restaurant with rooms upstairs.
A jazz playlist plays loudly all day, accompanying the uniformed staff.
When you go downstairs, they suddenly stop talking. It's really awkward. They spend their time on their phones (nothing serious), but with the volume cranked up, scrolling through nonsense. We use the word ”staff” to refer to the employees. It feels like they're acting without knowing what to do in the hospitality industry. Truly unheard of in Asia. It was a comedy sketch! 🤣😂🤣😂
The staff doesn't seem to have any experience in hotels or restaurants. Polite to the touch, but very clumsy (a woman with a large bag is struggling on the stairs, and no one offers her any help...). I've never seen anything like it in several months of travel in Malaysia (where I've always been perfectly welcomed) and throughout Southeast Asia.
With all that said, it's no wonder almost no one comes to eat or sleep here, even though it's very new. There are plenty of guesthouses further down the street that would be happy to welcome you.

The location is great, lively, but I didn't hear any street noises while sleeping.
The cleanliness was so-so; there was hair on the bed, and no toilet paper in the bathroom.
The Wi-Fi was infuriatingly bad, absolutely terrible, and the staff knew but didn't fix it. Surprisingly, the Wi-Fi signal was better in the shopping mall (this hostel is located in a shopping mall, hence the description). In other words, the Wi-Fi signal was better outside the hostel than inside the mall!
Also, because it was self-check-in, contacting staff was sometimes difficult; many people were waiting at the door for a reply.
Originally, it was for two nights, but it was changed to one night.

Great
YYeyuexuangeHidden in George Town, Penang, is a century-old heritage hotel, which was the most pleasant surprise of my trip. The hotel is divided into the Heritage Wing and the Victory Annexe, both largely preserving their original historical charm. From the antique elevator to the brass key wall, every detail tells a story. Teak staircases are carved with Malaysian motifs, and the rooms feature hardwood furniture alongside Fujian blue and white tiles, creating a stylish blend of East and West. The infinity pool offers direct views of the strait, and at sunset, the orange glow reflects on the water, allowing you to fully soak in Penang's unique seaside Nanyang charm. The century-old corridors are steeped in history, having hosted notable figures like Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Sun Yat-sen.
GGuest UserThis hotel truly deserves a good review. I'd definitely stay here again on my next visit.
**Service:** Top-notch! The hotel knew we needed to change (Penang was so hot!), and they let us check in early at 10 AM since a room was available. Water was also delivered to our room very quickly.
**Location:** Super convenient. There's a 7-Eleven right next door and a shopping mall.
**Accommodation Experience:** I requested a standing shower room in advance, and that's exactly what I got. The bed was quite large, and the overall feeling was spacious and clean.
**Dining:** During the May Day holiday, there was about a 5-minute wait for breakfast, which was perfectly acceptable.
QQiufengqiuyeAlthough the hotel opened in 2014, the rooms' facilities and cleanliness are still very well-maintained. The shower has great water pressure, making for a very comfortable bathing experience. The pillows in the room were a bit uncomfortable for me – too high and too springy. The bed was large and the mattress was very comfortable. My room didn't come with bathrobes. It was quiet at night, and the air conditioning in the room was strong. Directly opposite the hotel is a large shopping mall, and a big supermarket is not far away. It's also within walking distance to various attractions. The infinity pool is excellent, with a good long lane for swimming. Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 10 AM, and the food selection is substantial and fitting for a 4-star hotel, offering everything you'd expect.
GGuest UserThe room is spacious, and Harun always does an excellent job cleaning it; his service is enthusiastic.
Facilities: Good.
Service: Very good, though it's a shame they don't allow a slightly later checkout 😂. They require checkout at 11 AM, and by 12 PM, they were already calling us to hurry up and leave. They're quite strict about not allowing late check-outs, probably because rooms are in high demand during peak season.
Environment: Very quiet, you can't hear any motorbike noise, and it's convenient for getting to all the attractions.
HHonghaizhixiaoFThe hotel's location is decent, and the building itself is impressive. The lobby service was good; we arrived in the morning, and while early check-in wasn't an option for most, we were able to store our luggage and head out to explore. The room size was acceptable, and it was kept clean. The Wi-Fi speed was a bit slow, but housekeeping did a great job every day. There's a lively night market right downstairs, bustling every night except Wednesdays. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Mural Street. Breakfast was fine, and the restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. During our stay, there was some exterior renovation happening, which the hotel informed us about in advance. However, the most annoying issue was the highly unstable water supply during those days. We occasionally had no hot water during the day, and sometimes even a complete water cutoff. When the water did return, it was very yellow. On the evening of the 23rd, there was no hot water at all, and we had to wait until 11:30 PM for a hot shower. This was the biggest flaw of our stay, and I hope the hotel addresses and improves this.
SShengxiaotuExtremely satisfied, very satisfied.
Checked in on the 20th floor and enjoyed the view while waiting.
Hygiene: The room was spacious, clean, and tidy, with a separate wet and dry area in the bathroom.
Facilities: The infinity pool on the top floor was fantastic, with plenty of loungers and towels available. The pool water was also very clean.
Environment: Downstairs, the hotel is surrounded by convenience stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and nail salons.
Service: The check-in process was very thorough, with detailed explanations about WiFi connection, air conditioning temperature control, pool opening hours, and more.
GGuest UserThe hotel exceeds my expectations. The room has sleek interior design and is spacious and clean. The amenities look new and well maintained by repurposing rooms in the 15th floor. The lobby and the complimentary coffee is great too!
Location wise, not much going around the hotel but grab is easy and quite near to Georgetown too.
It’s just that my room has a weird smell near the bathroom (probably from sanitation/sewage) because it smells the same in the toilet near the swimming pool. Not a dealbreaker because the smell is quite contained and you won’t smell it from your bed or anything but it may be the first smell that welcomes you as you enter the room as the bathroom/toilet is area is just beside the door.
MMEGAT AMINUDDINi had a wonderful stay at Bishop Hotel in Georgetown, Penang. the location is absolutely perfect — right in the heart of the UNESCO heritage area, within walking distance to popular attractions, street art, cafes, and amazing local food spots. it made exploring Georgetown so convenient and enjoyable.
the room was cozy, clean, and very comfortable. perfect for relaxing after a full day of sightseeing. everything was well-maintained, and the bed was especially comfortable for a good night’s rest.
overall, Bishop Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a centrally located stay with cozy, comfortable rooms in Georgetown. iwould definitely stay here again!
EewanwanThis is my second time staying at this hotel, and it continues to deliver a consistently comfortable experience.
The room is clean, well-maintained, and designed in a simple, functional style that feels similar to an ibis concept practical and easy to settle into.
The highlight is definitely the bed. It’s soft and very comfortable, and even the single beds are generously sized. The bedsheets feel like cotton, and the hotel provides two types of pillows ,one soft and one medium-firm ,which makes it easy to get good sleep.
The bathroom is clean with proper dry and wet separation, and having a fridge in the room is a nice added convenience.
Location is another strong point. Within just a 1-minute walk, there are plenty of food options, from open-air local stalls to air-conditioned restaurants. Despite that, the area remains quiet at night, which I really appreciate.
The fact that I chose to come back says a lot. Overall, great value for money and I would definitely stay here again
GGuest UserI was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area .
The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this .
Now , I wait for my toe to heal .
