Reading prior reviews of Marriott’s Canyon Villas, I am reminded of the concept of one’s glass being half full, vs half empty. Our recent experience at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, was that our glass was in the way more than half full category. First, I should say that we’ve vacationed at Marriott’s Canyon Villas countless times, since the resort opened, which is now more than 20 years ago. Amongst our “draw” to Marriott’s Canyon Villas, is its location, the convenience of flying nonstop to PHX, and Canyon Villas close proximity to the airport, the beautiful, well designed, well maintained, well managed and well-staffed, Marriott’s Canyon Villas “VILLA” resort, and Marriott’s Canyon Villas close proximity (beside) and access to the amenities of the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort. Our most recent stay at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, and vacation there, was as exceptional as prior ones. I can’t imagine not having a great time, and great vacation at Marriott’s Canyon Villas. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful design of Marriott’s Canyon Villas, the facilities and amenities, and the wonderful Marriott’s Canyon Villas staff. Our Marriott’s Canyon Villas vacation and “resort experience” was greatly enhanced by Canyon Villas guest access to the spectacular JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort, next door to Marriott’s Canyon Villas (during 5 of 7 days of our vacation at Marriott’s Canyon Villas). Our two-bedroom, two-bath “villa,” was a comfortable, well designed Vacation Home. This year, it seemed that the villa interiors long ago exceeded their useful life. While our villa was, in general, clean, and well maintained, the villa was exceedingly worn out. It seems that Marriott Vacation Club should have refurbished the villas at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, way more than a year ago. We were told that the villa renovations would commence in November 2024; that, in my opinion, is way overdue. I am concerned that this upcoming renovation is a “soft goods only” renovation; it seems that a significant portion of hard goods in our villa are way overdue for replacement, for example, outdated kitchen cabinets, floor tile, interior louvered closet doors, etc. The soft goods in our villa were way overdue for replacement, as well. As in our previous vacations at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, our villa was largely clean, upon check-in, however, on each of our visits to Marriott’s Canyon Villas, it seems that the Housekeeping Department has significantly missed the mark, in at least one significant area. I work in the domain of “High Reliability Organizations;” I’d refer to the Housekeeping Department at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, as highly UNreliable. It is a shame that Marriott, highly regarded for its “Process Engineering,” has a housekeeping department at Marriott’s Canyon Villas, that is very shy on High Reliability and Process Engineering. One thing we noted on this visit, was a Coffee Maker that does not have a coffee pot/carafe. Trying to figure out how

Checked into my room, used the restroom, washed my hands, when I went to dry them, there was a woman’s thong hanging from the hand towel. It’s not mine!!!! Also food crumbs on the floor and the tv doesn’t come on. Someone was supposed to bring me keys to a new room but instead housekeeping came with a new hand towel. Heading up to the front desk again.

It's a four star hotel with 5 star amenities and service. We had a corporate event across the street at the other Marriott (it's a 5 minute flat walk from one to the other), and I have to say we were glad we stayed at the Villas. Full kitchen. Actually, I'd like to comment on the room layout - it's terrific! The bathroom was situated so that if you have one person who has to get up early they can do so and access the bathroom, living, and kitchen without disturbing the sleeping person. Fantastic! Outdoor activities, a little store with essentials including basic groceries, this would be a good place to stay if you were going to be here a week or more too. The furnishings are clean but a little dated. The staff to a person was top-notch.

I am a lifetime Marriott Bonvoy titanium member and booked two rooms at Canyon Villas for me and extended family, which were not ready when I arrived around 2:45pm. I understand check in time is listed as 4pm, so while I was disappointed the room wasn't ready, I understood that was a possibility. I got a text that my room was ready around 3:20pm. After waiting nearly 20 minutes to talk to a staff person to collect my keycard, I was told my second room wasn't ready. I asked if I could know where the room is and get a keycard for it, but won't enter it until it's ready and was told no. I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for the second room check in process, but it's what I had to do. So I leave the front desk with my first keycard to load my luggage to the room. While on my way (probably two minutes after I left the lobby) I get the text my second room was ready. I load all bags into my first room then go back and wait a solid 25 minutes to check in to my second room. I get the keycards for second room and it reeked of cigarette smoke. I again have to go back to front lobby to request a new room and wait another 20 minutes to talk to front office staff to request a new room and asked to have someone assist moving my stuff from room 1 to the new room 2 since new room 2 was far away now. I was told someone would be there immediately, but after waiting 15 minutes I decided to move it myself. I lugged half the stuff across the facility to the second room, which made me feel like I was at work, not at a vacation club. Check in staff never acknowledged my titanium status, provided me with information about the scratcher to win points or a prize, never gave me the local discount card upon checkin, which is frustrating because I ate at one of the restaurants that night not knowing I could have gotten a discount. I only learned about these things from checkout staff the next morning. I was very disappointed in the service aspect of this hotel. They should always provide you with full details about the property, benefits of staying there and find ways to solve a customers issue. A simple phone call to housekeeping staff surely would have allowed them to know my second room was ready rather than wasting a significant amount of my time. Also, sending one to a room that smells like cigarettes is an issue. The cleaning staff should have alerted the front desk of this issue. Staff in all regards at this property should do better, especially the front desk check in folks. I won't stay here again and wouldn't consider a Marriott vacation club in the future based on this experience.

We are every other year owners here. Our last time here was October 2022. It was OK then but did have some problems. This year was a lot better. We got the building we wanted 2300. And we got a 2nd floor golf course view. The 2 bedroom villa was spotless. We never heard a peep from the 3rd floor unit above us. Parking was never a problem. One of the problems in the primary bedroom was the light from the smoke alarm. It blinked very brightly and then there was a flash of white light. Had the same problem last time. Not conducive to a good night's sleep. So we found "blackout" dots on Amazon. They did the trick. We did have to stand on the night table to put them over the 2 tiny lights but they worked perfectly. The blackout drapes closed all the way. The bed was way too soft for me but my husband thought it was fine. The sofa in the living room is not very comfortable. We took pillows from the 2nd bedroom to use as back supports. After shopping at Albertson's, we ate all of our breakfasts in the villa and most of our lunches. I love having a full kitchen. We spent a lot of time at the relaxation pool or spa pool. I can never get the name right. We were lucky at times to get chairs. There really aren't enough and definitely not enough umbrellas or shade. Also, some of the chairs didn't have cushions on them. There are 2 large beds with pillows that take up a lot of space but I have never seen anyone use them. We were looking forward to the 2 Smores events. We got to the "main" fire pit to find no one there. At the front desk, they said go to the lawn at building 2700. We did, no one there. I decided to go back to the villa. On my way back, I saw the smores on the lawn at building 2400. A few nights later was the 2nd Smores night. We went to the "main" fire pit. Nope. But now we're told to get skewers from the front desk and then go outside to get your Smores packet. Then we walked to the lawn at building 2400. It would have been nice to have better communication. The location of Canyon Villas is perfect for shopping and eating. A 5 minute drive gets you to Desert Springs or High Street. We did take a drive to Cave Creek. Not to be missed there is the Cave Creek Olive Oil Company. Tons of olive oils and balsamic vinegars for tasting. Yes, we did buy and they wrapped it in bubble wrap for our flight home. Be forewarned that they are clearing ground byond the spa pool for a new building so they may be a lot of noise and dust. We didn't have a problem. Supposedly they are redecorating in a few months. It will be interesting. We really do feel at home here and the staff has always been friendly and helpful.

The rooms are rundown and needed to be renovated awhile ago. The couch is stained, the mattress is beyond its useful life, and if you have the misfortune of sleeping on the sofa bed, it will feel like you are sleeping on a boards. You cannot even tuck in the sheets because of the poor design. The lack of maid service is gross and I am not surprised that other reviewers reported seeing bugs. If rooms only get cleaned every 10 days, it is not surprising there would be bugs. The Canyon Villas lost value when access to the JW Marriott was restricted. I was told that we are able to use all of the amenities that anyone walking off the street could use like overpriced restaurants with very limited menus. The price is high for the services offered right now. I would definitely stay at a different property in the future.

We are Marriott Vacation Club members. Have stayed at many MVC locations. This is not as modern as others. But looks like they are planning to do some remodeling. The location is great. Next to Wildfire Golf Course and Marriott's Desert Ridge Resort. Plus many restaurants within a mile or two.

I will never stay in a Cozy Suites again. Or stay in a Marriott ever again with how they've handled this situation, as I booked the reservation through their Home Villas. I checked in late on Saturday 12/30, notice right away that the smoke detector is ripped out of the ceiling and the cords are just dangling. I didn't make a big deal of it because there was a smoke detector in the bedroom. I go to bed and wake up the next morning to find a set of false eyelashes stuck to the bed side table. That immediately makes me wonder what else was not cleaned. The toilet was running the entire time - to the point where I had to go into the tank and re-attach the bobber to make it stop. I asked that day, first full day, if I could check out the following day and get refunded. I was told I could leave but I would not be refunded. The next day I ran out toilet paper and tissues. I had a half of one roll of TP when I arrived. I asked for toilet paper and they sent toilet paper 16 HOURS LATER. 16 hours. I finally had my last straw when they asked if they could have someone come by for an hour to fix a few things. I told them no, not while I was staying there. I left the next day, two days early. When I contacted Marriott they gave me $150 back and as a apology 3500 points. I paid over $700 plus 77k points for the five night stay and that is what they did to make it right. I will never stay again at any Marriott.
