I travel 6-10 times a year to Birmingham as part of an Apprenticeship at Aston University. I have stayed in various budget style hotels in the last two years, and saw this Premier Inn before it was even opened, but this was the first time I decided to book it. It is now the closest of the budget hotels to campus, and has all of the city centre amenities in walking distance. The room was typical of a Premier Inn room in furnishings, size and layout, but I was impressed with the cleanliness and presentation of the room. I noticed only a couple of minor issues but they either were not worth bothering reception with during our visit, or impacted us only to a negligible degree. These were: dead batteries in the remote, the towel hook missing from the back of the bathroom door, and the desk unit seemed to be very wobbly if pushed from either end (other than this it was stable and fit for purpose, but if someone were to fall into it from the ends, i'm not sure it would break the fall). The air conditioning was easy to use, and welcome as I prefer a cooler room. The requirement of scanning your card for the lift and only being able to choose your own floor is a nice security addition, and the bathroom was spotless with the wall-mounted toilletries full. Tea and coffee supplies are topped up on a 'help yourself' basis from reception, and if I took a new teabag and milk each time I passed through, I was never without. The hotel is ideally located for quick eating options, in addition to the onsite restaurant/bar there are other establishments on the ground floor of the neighboring building including Starbucks, Greggs, Co-Op and a McDonalds. For our specific purposes, the hotel is equidistant between campus and the city centre so it was easy to get to classes, but also easy to meet up and eat out with colleagues who were staying elsewhere in the evening. We used the parking at Millennium Point car park, as we have done since the course started. It is a 5-10 minute walk away, depending on how laden you are with luggage, and is safe and secure. We leave our cars there when we arrive and they are always safe and secure when we return to them 2 or 3 days later. Also this trip, my parking cost £29 for about 56 hours use. Beware the barriers close between midnight and 0600 but if you're not going to need to move your car overnight, I'd definitely recommend this car park. The NCP High Street is closer to the hotel, which has 24/7 access but will cost more.
