Last time I booked a Western-style room this time I booked a Japanese-style room. Also, the glass used is cloudy due to aging deterioration, so it's time to replace it with a stone! ?? I booked Chinese food this time and I was expecting it because the Japanese food was delicious last time, but unfortunately Chinese food was not so good. There was no. If the interval is too wide, you will feel full and your food will not progress. I will never use Chinese food 2 from the next time. Breakfast is rich and delicious. Bath The open-air bath is comfortable, but I want you to put a good shampoo in the men's bath! The correspondence of the hotel staff was very good as last time.

Overall, I felt the hotel was very nicely done with great local touches while still keeping an international atmosphere. I also wanted to point out the great flexibility of the hotel, allowing me to change my meal reservations from 3 dinners at Elements (I was on a package deal) to one at Elements and combining the remaining two meals at Elements to a dinner at Atelier. This allowed me to not have to dine at the same restaurant as well as opening up a slot for me to explore a local restaurant. However, there were two things that I'd like to point out that the hotel can improve upon. The first is the staffing at the club lounge (and in general) is not enough. There were many moments where I was left to wait, to the point where using standard facilities (like the check-in counter, or breakfast at Elements) would have been a more positive experience. Breakfast on 12/21 was where the understaffing really showed, where it took over an hour to complete breakfast; many guests left in the middle of their meal since service was horribly slow. However, the second point us what I would really want the hotel to work on - CoVID countermeasures. Largely, two things I'd like to point out. (1) Temperature screening us inconsistent. I was checked when I first arrived, but never anytime afterwards (or should I say, the thermometer station was unmanned). (2) During my meal at Atelier, my wife and I noticed that the staff (He was Italian, I think his name is Marco?) preparing the dishes (in the open kitchen) prepping a sauce, tasting it with the same spoon which was quickly rinsed it under the faucet and returned into the mixing bowl. I pointed this out to one of the servers (Japanese male, responsible for serving and explaining the dishes). This is where I felt the hotel can improve on - in detail, three things. (i) The Japanese server proceeded to quietly scold the staff in front of me, I felt that was not a great experience both for myself and the staff. (ii) Nothing was cleared. After the scolding (and then the staff responding back that he did not put the spoon back in) none of the utensils were changed and no follow up. I guess there is no trust in what a customer points out. And finally (iii) I felt that this is at the fault of the hotel for not putting in proper operation guidelines.A person putting together a meal will need to taste it, to make sure it's good. If the hotel were to put in operational guidelines to ensure tasting can be done while still making it very obvious that it is hygienic, I would not have to be writing this email. Needless to say, our dinner experience was ruined that night. I actually shared the above comment with IHG Guest Relations (on 25 Dec), which the agent was extremely prompt on getting back to me and assured that I would get a response back from the hotel about it within 48 hours. Unfortunately, the hotel never contacted me. I then asked guest relations again (on 5 Jan) to follow up with th

The hotel is located on a mountain and has its own parking space, which is very convenient for self-drivers. There is an independent semi-open-air hot spring in the room. There is a gauze screen to block small insects. It is really comfortable to breathe in the natural air while soaking in the hot spring. Breakfast and dinner are both delicious😋 It is recommended to book the one-stay, two-dinner plan!

About 12 minutes walk from Beppu station. You can see signs of ages especially the lobby setting, still it’s a clean hotel. The room itself was spacious and it was renovated not long ago. The onsen is not big but it’s never crowd during my evening and morning visits. Breakfast is reasonably good with plenty of local dishes. Well worth the money.

Sanso Kannawaen is dotted with the main building, annex, detached building, and Sorakan on a vast site of 45,000 square meters. Located on a hill in Beppu City, it has a great view, and there are rooms with a panoramic view of Beppu city and Beppu Bay. There are various room types, such as Japanese-Western style rooms and Western style rooms, so it can be used for various occasions. All rooms have their own hot spring bath, and you can enjoy the "mysterious blue water" that is 100% natural spring water whenever you like during your stay.
The large public bath on the top floor, which was renovated in August 2024 and is exclusively for guests, has various baths such as indoor baths, open-air baths, box steam baths, cypress baths, and ceramic baths, so you can enjoy the hot springs to the fullest. From the open-air bath, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Beppu, which will be a special moment. *The color of the blue water changes depending on the day.
You can choose your favorite plan from Japanese kaiseki and teppanyaki. Please enjoy dinner at the restaurant, where each chef has prepared a meal using carefully selected ingredients.
The grounds include a Japanese garden and a Noh theater, and the traditional beauty of Japan can be felt everywhere. Antiques and modern paintings are on display inside the building, allowing you to enjoy a moment out of the ordinary.
"Hell," a tourist spot in Beppu, is within walking distance, making it an ideal base for sightseeing in Beppu. There is also a luggage storage service before check-in and after check-out, so you can enjoy sightseeing to the fullest. Guests can use the shuttle service from Beppu Station (advance reservation required) and the parking lot free of charge. All rooms are non-smoking, but there is a smoking area within the facility.

I recently stayed at Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan, and it was a truly remarkable experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff’s warm hospitality made me feel welcomed and relaxed. The ryokan is set in a beautiful, serene location, surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful retreat from daily life.
The room was spacious and tastefully decorated in traditional Japanese style, blending modern comforts with authentic charm. The private onsen attached to my room was a highlight, allowing me to unwind in soothing hot springs while taking in the picturesque views.
What truly sets Kannawaen apart is the attention to detail and personalized service. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect, making me feel truly cared for throughout my stay.
If you’re looking for a luxurious, tranquil getaway with impeccable service and a true Japanese experience, I highly recommend Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan. It’s a place we would love to visit again.
Note: they provide shuttle from/to station with time slot! Convenient

This hotel is about 10-15 mins walking from the JR Beppu station. It is easy to find as you just walk towards the seaside until you see the Beppu Tower beside a main road, the hotel is behind it. There is a 7-11 beside the tower, and a bus stop in front of the tower, so is quite convenient. If you take the bus to visit the 7 Beppu Hells starting from the JR station and follow the sequence, i.e. Chinoike and Tatsumaki Jigokus as the last two hells, and you take the bus towards the Beppu station, you can stop directly in front of the tower, this complete a full circle of your Beppu Hell tour. I booked a seaview Japanese room and the view is great. The room is also spacious for Japanese ryokan standard. There is some minor renovation and furniture replacement done, so the room is a mixture of new and worn. There are two onsen baths in this hotel: one at the top floor, an open air onsen bath and one at third floor, which is an indoor onsen bath. The dinner and breakfast are both average though. Overall, I am quite happy with my stay here.

This was bolt hole no.1 on our Rugby World Cup weekend, it was a good choice! I had already booked a nights stay here on the Saturday of England's rugby QF v Australia. We hastily arranged a Friday stay when it became clear commuting from Fukuoka to Beppu was going to be a major issue on match say. Turned out a great plan! So 2 nights, we enjoyed the Spa which me and my wife made full use of. The outdoor baths range in temperatures and size. At the time we stayed there, it was the chosen bolt hole of many a rugby newspaper hack! There was Messrs S Jones and M Cleary of the broad sheets and M Samuels of the Mail, amongst others. We also had rugby correspondents from Sky Sports news. Funny choice since Oita is quite a commute from that hotel. Anyway, I digress. Hotel rooms are plain but comfortable plus large enough. Walk in showers and breakfast had a wide selection. Friendly staff but an odd gown and slippers rule (not strictly enforced, just as well as slippers were too small as were garments). For both nights, we enjoyed drinks in their basic lounge area. Beers were purchased from a vending machine. Usual fayre of Asahi type later, not great but ok. The place is up in the mountains about a 20 min bus ride from Beppu Station. We ate in the evening in Beppu, plenty of choices. All in all, a fun stay.

It is good sense when I am flowing BGM with analog records at the front desk. And Tatsuo Yamashita's ride on time is too good sense. The photograph is the lounge on the 10th floor, but you can use the space freely while listening to analog records. I can't go back and forth between baths, but the inner bath is also the best. The breakfast was delicious and I was able to start the day with the best feeling. The parking lot is large and easy to stop, and the price is reasonable for the sightseeing spot and the volume is quite good. It was a hotel that was easy to use for business, couples and families on any layer. I would like to stay again.

Stayed in couple of different onsen hotels in beppu area in the past several years and this, to me, is an average/below standard hotel. It is located at the side of a main road and you can hear when ambulances or police trucks are passing by at night. To make thing worse, our main door is crashed by something in the middle of the night, creating loud noise waking us up. We just are not sure if the door is crashed by a drunk man, the wind or something else. But this is enough for us to worry!! Is there somebody trying to break into the room? Is the hotel safe, really? Anyhow, don’t think we would be returning to this hotel again in the future. One point to add by the way, most of the private bath which guests can use are extremely small except the one which is outdoor and located on the left of the lobby entrance. If you want to try, try this one and it shall be enough.

GGuest UserThe hot spring is a cloudy sulfur spring. The indoor baths are a rock bath and a cypress bath, and one is also drinkable. In the open-air bath, I listened to the chirping of birds and was surrounded by the scent of sulfur and flowers. There is a shop nearby called Okamotoya Shop, which is famous for its hell-steamed pudding, and you can get a voucher to use the hot springs* there. Also, pudding is served as dessert for dinner. The food was delicious both in the evening and in the morning with a high class atmosphere. It is conveniently located near the bus stop. Since it is located on a hill, the view from the room is also wonderful. The room feels a little old, but the quality of the hot spring makes up for it.
GGuest UserDuring our trip, we had a desire for a wild experience like camping, but we also wanted a touch of comfort. After some research, we came across a newly opened resort called Grand Verde Resort, inaugurated in July 2022. The accommodations resembled individual rooms or houses resembling a camp setup, but with the added convenience of a private bathroom. One of the highlights was the opportunity to enjoy a BBQ dinner right next to our room, followed by a bonfire service in the evening. The resort also provided a public bath and sauna room with picturesque views of the beautiful grassland surroundings. Additionally, there was a small farm where guests could feed the sheep, adding to the overall charm of the environment.
TTTDRO2012The hotel is located in the iron wheel hot spring town of Beppu. The name of the hotel translated by Ctrip should be Togetsu. We provide pick-up and drop-off service from Beppu Station. You need to contact the hotel in advance to pick up the station. It is best to send an email. The communication language between the two parties on the phone is slightly poor. The sea view room is very beautiful. You can see Beppu Bay and the sunrise in the morning. The all-you-can-eat steak and crab legs buffet is great
VVacation811917While the Rugby World Cup was on the rise, I went to Oita Prefecture for work, and in Beppu, I used the price near the station. Until I arrived, I didn't know that the Rugby World Cup was being done in Oita. The hotel is close to the station, there are many restaurants and convenient location. The hotel is old, but there are hot springs and sauna, and it is an environment that is sufficiently satisfactory even for business use. In the morning, I was grateful for the free service of a drink at the cup drink vending machine in front of the front desk.
YyousobeautifulIt’s better to find it at night. It’s very close to Beppu Station. It takes about 10 minutes to walk according to the map. The room is on the 2nd floor. If the box is heavy, it’s a bit difficult to move.
GGuest UserGood location, large enough area, with kitchen
Facilities, suitable for a family. But there is no elevator, the room is not shading, and the sound insulation is not good. People who sleep poorly are cautious. Service is basically not available. Health is not good.
BB8804LXnicolatA member of our party booked this hotel through Booking.com in January 2019 to accommodate us ( a party of four in 2 rooms) for one night during our RWC 2019 tour. Whist we knew that it was not the ‘best’ of the hotels we had booked nothing prepared us for the incredibly poor quality of this hotel. We were accommodated in the Hotel so cannot comment on the standard of the Hotel Sun Valley annex. On arrival we received a warm welcome and the hotel had prepared well for its RWC guests providing relevant information on travel to and from Beppu and facilities in Beppu itself . The beds were clean too but that is where the good ends. The hotel is sub standard and the rooms small, dirty ( accumulated dust in the room and cleanliness of the bathroom was suspect) and electrical goods and installations aged and dangerous . Furnishings were old and carpets frayed . One of the rooms had no light in the bathroom which meant that the bathroom door had to be left open during its use. The cost of the room was not excessive at circa £220 a night but it was not cheap either . Whatever it’s cost , it is expensive for what it has and what it offers. It took a lot of persuading for me to stay for the one night at this hotel and I would never return or personally recommend it to travellers. There are other hotels that provide better accommodation for the same/similar cost. Here are some of the photos to highlight the quality of our room and facilities.
