The Garden The hotel is a bit dated and the rooms are on the smaller side, but the heated toilet seats were a definite plus. While there's no view from the hotel, its location is absolutely fantastic. Shanhua Temple is right around the corner, along with popular restaurants like Xijindao and Zini. A short stroll also leads to a bustling commercial pedestrian street, where you'll find a Foxiaoban concept store. The Garden's restaurant is also quite renowned. Dishes such as Ban Huanghua, Garden Scented Chicken, Crispy Fried Hairtail, and Lamb's Head Meat were all very tasty. However, the much-talked-about walnut pie was a bit on the sweet side. There was some noise from a nearby construction site operating in the mornings and evenings. Given the hotel's older, open-atrium design where rooms surround a central void, noise from the 2nd-floor restaurant's early morning cleaning could also be heard. Despite these minor issues, overall, it was a good stay. The service was warm and friendly, and it's incredibly convenient for exploring nearby attractions.

Even though this hotel has been open for a while, I was thoroughly impressed with everything. The rooms were very spacious, the staff had an exceptional attitude, and crucially, the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Its location is also incredibly convenient for getting around. I honestly think it's far superior to places like the Yungang Grand Hotel, which I found to be all show and no substance.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, right next to the Drum Tower in the very heart of the ancient city. It's incredibly close to all major attractions; Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and Dongnanyi are all within 600-700 meters, making them easily accessible on foot. Popular internet-famous restaurants like Zini 369 and Longjuxiang are also just a three-minute walk away. Although the hotel has a classic, state-owned aesthetic, its service is far from old-fashioned and has kept pace with the times. The facilities are well-appointed, the restaurant offers a pleasant ambiance, and the breakfast features a wide selection of delicious options.

Building B doesn't have an elevator, but as rooms are typically on the first or second floor, it wasn't an issue. The rooms are simple and clean, with a traditional hotel decor. The actual rooms perfectly match the photos. The hotel staff were exceptionally attentive and warm-hearted – a massive thumbs up! It's also very convenient if you want to dine at the Garden Hotel. Its location right within Datong Ancient City makes getting around incredibly easy.

Being an older hotel, the facilities are understandably a bit dated. However, its location is absolutely fantastic, very close to the attractions, and the service was excellent. We stayed in a top-floor room with a small balcony, offering stunning views of the ancient city's nightscape and the Daiwangfu drone show right from our window. The hotel restaurant comes highly recommended for its food. We did have to queue, but the wait was quicker than we'd anticipated. While the taste wasn't quite as 'astounding' as some online reviews suggested, it was arguably the best non-local meal I've had in Shanxi these past few days – a truly welcome break from dishes like Guo You Rou.

The location is absolutely unbeatable, right in the heart of the ancient city. We dined directly at the hotel, and the food was exceptionally delicious and truly impressive – arguably the best meal we had in Datong. Hotel guests also get priority seating for meals, which is a great perk considering how long the queues usually are. The only drawback was that the accommodation felt a bit dated. The hotel isn't a high-rise, so we were actually assigned a room in a different building. Despite this, the service was excellent, although the facilities overall showed some wear and tear.
